I have a Lincoln Town Car '04 only had it for a few months now.
Anytime I turn the car off and get out, I can hear something turn on really loud. Usually only last for a few seconds.
It happens a lot more now and the car didn't have to have been running.
Looks like the sound come from around the front driver side under what I assume is the air filter.

Any idea what this is or is it normal?

    Just a little follow up.
It’s been 2 days, and I still don’t hear the sound any more.
I’m thinking turning the air ride switch off for a few stops,
then turning it back on fixed the problem.
I’ve had around 25-30 stops with all my running around.
    And it’s still quite.
The only variable I can think of now, is that the system is not working at all.
Since I knew it was working before because of the sound.
It’s supposed to work quietly, so working correctly I could confuse with not even on
Is there an easy way to verify it’s on and working?
I have no check engine lights on.

    Thanks for the help

    Radiator fan perhaps?

I don’t think so, sounds more like a compressor or something like that

Probably the pump for the airride suspension, assuming your Lincoln has it.
When you get in our out, it changes the ride height, so it corrects it.

That's what a friend of mine said it might be, too.
Why is it so loud and rough sounding.
Is it a sign that the device is about to fail completely.

    Can it be corrected?

Today I believe I tracked the problem.
i turned off the air ride suspension by the switch. The problem\noise did not return.
i turned it back on, and seems to have fixed it.
    Does this sound correct?

Well if there was a problem, there should be a "check air suspension" light going on.
