Help- auto. trans. no shifting - No longer shows gear position, overdrive does not engage

Help- auto. trans. no shifting - No longer shows gear position, overdrive does not engage and kick-down do not work, car must be shifted manually...
While driving on a country road, I shifted from D to 3 while climbing a hill and the position indicator flashed a few times, when I got to the top of the rise, I shifted into D again, but the car stayed in 3rd gear, display in dash went blank... Is there a fuse for the automatic transmission to engage ?

    Perhaps---try fuse # 16 and see how that matches the diagram on the fuse box cover.

    I have the same problem and tried everything but it doesn't help
