Subaru Legacy AC problem

The air conditioner will not come on when the temperature is above about 85 degrees especially when it has been sitting in the sun and it has recently rained. If it sits in a cooler temperature for a little while it will usually start working. Any ideas on possible repairs?

    You mean the compressor doesn't engage and the fan doesn't blow, or that everything turns on but the air is not cold?
