2004 Jetta loud noise

My car started making a noise when I’m going over 30mph. The weird part is that it only makes the loud noise when I take my foot of the gas or the brake. So pretty much if I reach the speed limit and I start to let go the pedal it begins making a really loud kind of whining metal noise. I feel like I hear it more from the driver side of my car. Any suggestions of what it could be??

It's impossible to diagnose a noise on the Internet. The car will have to go on a lift and run through the gears to see if the noise can be isolated. All I can say is that if you don't hear it on "pull", but you do hear it on "coast", it might be some kind of gear noise.
