Can I Still Cancel/Walk Away From This "Sale" Or Is It Too Late?

Hello,

I need some help. On Saturday, I negotiated with a Honda dealer in the STL area and agreed to terms. We agreed to the sale price, the trade for my car, the amount I would need to finance, taxes, license, title, etc.

I did NOT finance the vehicle through the dealer. I was going to contact my credit union on Monday as they have the best financing rate.

I DID put down $500 on the Honda CR-V.

I did sign a "Buyer's Order" document.

The plan was that I would return on Monday and take delivery, along with a check from my credit union for the difference between the negotiated sales price and my trade allowance.

However, I had had serious second thoughts and I want to cancel the purchase.

What should I do and how do I go about it? What can I do? Any advice is appreciated.

Since you did not take delivery, nor signed a formal contract, you can contact the dealer and tell them you've changed your mind. They should be able to tear up the paperwork.

    Thank you.

I called the salesperson today and he handled it so nicely. I will not have to pay the $500 and I was incredibly impressed with him and the dealership. I will be back there in the future.

    Wonderful news!

Glad to have an example of a dealership who steps up and does the right thing, from a customer service perspective.

Now, had this been a custom ordered, purple BMW 6-series, it might have had a different ending. Dealer will have no problem selling the CR-V.
