2019 M550xi engine recall?

edited November 2018 in BMW
Ahead of going in for a test drive, have a dealer telling me all of the 2019 M550 are having engines replaced due to metal shavings in oil. This does not appear on BMW's recall site based on putting in a representative VIN number.

I saw some posts elsewhere for 2018 M550 engine replacements.

Are others aware of this issue?

Why is this recurring for this particular engine?

My backup choice is a 2019 540i xdrive M sport, but are those engines having catastrophic problems too?

My excitement about the M550 feels stripped away :disappointed:

Thank you.

I don't have any knowledge of this issue, but...

Recalls are for safety issues, or for out of warranty problems that are being covered for free.

A problem like this, for a car in warranty, will just get a service bulletin.

    Thanks for the context.

Any insights on how such dealer engine swaps go in terms of quality, subsequent issues, etc.?

No... but, personally, I wouldn't like it.
