Max tongue weight for Elantra

Helping a friend with a car purchase. She likes the Elantra but needs a car that can support a hitch with an electric lift and mobility scooter. I believe the minimum weight is 200lbs but is likely more. Can the Elantra handle over 200lbs? If not, any suggestions for another small sedan?

Several reasons, the first being the carriers for the chair have more options with the receiver that the class three hitch uses. The class three hitch also connects to a wider section of the subframe spreading the weight and torque over a greater span which is why they can carry 500lbs tongue weight. A class 1 only carries 200lbs and a class 2 is virtually the same price as the class 3.

The Elantra can handle that much of a load, just make sure to install a class 3 hitch.
