Also you didn't mention in what manner they failed. If the pinion gear is being chewed up, that's a whole other set of problems that might have to do with starter alignment/spacing and / or the flywheel ring gear.
If the failures are strictly electrical, it could be a question of the quality of the starter that was purchased, but again, starter alignment and shimming might contribute to excessive starter "drag" and premature wear.
