This is a 2004 XC90. I replaced 5/23/13, 3/23/. And now it needs a new starter again! Is this normal lifespan of this part! Seems like fatory defect to me!
Do you know the source of the "new" starters? If they are rebuilt, it really matters where they come from.
Also you didn't mention in what manner they failed. If the pinion gear is being chewed up, that's a whole other set of problems that might have to do with starter alignment/spacing and / or the flywheel ring gear.
If the failures are strictly electrical, it could be a question of the quality of the starter that was purchased, but again, starter alignment and shimming might contribute to excessive starter "drag" and premature wear.
