Curious to know if anyone has had a similar issue with their 2001 Marquis. Oil is leaking in more than one place. It seems as though possibly the rear main seal and near the oil filter...I'm currently at 144k mi. I had the rear main seal "replaced". The oil is leaking in my exhaust and is causing a bad smell when the heat is on.

It's not unusual for oil to leak down onto multiple spots on the floor, frame or exhaust. Oil leaks "travel", due to the motion of the car and the force of the cooling fan.

The best way to detect the source of the leak is to buy a leak detection kit or have a repair shop use one. This kit adds a dye to the oil and then a special "black light" is directed toward the engine. The leak will illuminate as a bright color.

Oil filters are often suspect, as many people, or quick-change shops, will accidentally "double-gasket" the filter, and that will invariably leak. (they forget to take off the old o-ring before putting on the new one). Check this.
