Navigator Normal vs Normal 4x4 auto Drive Mode

Does anyone know if the Normal 4x4 auto drive mode is full time 4wd? i.e. It's always driving 4 wheels or does it switch from 2wd to 4wd automatically?

    You might find THIS VIDEO helpful in explaining the basic Ford system. I think this video is a few years old, but the principles should be just about the same:

    The short answer is that in "auto", power to the front or rear is electronically determined and controlled, as is the variable center differential. Traction control is also in play here.
