Did he ruin the electrical system by swapping positive and negative battery cables?

Hello, my husband replaced the battery since it was dead in the driveway. Alas, he swapped the battery cables. He tried to start the car. After replacing several fuses it drives 10 mph and has no brake lights. Since it is the holiday we have to wait to get it to the dealership. Is the car ruined? Is this an expensive repair?

never mind it was a less than 300 repair, towed car to dealer for another fuse.

Lucky you. It could very well have damaged the car's brain. (ECM) . You might consider marking those cables more carefully for next time. Probably blew a "fusible link", which is a type of fuse.
