knocking noise

I have a 2006 Buick Rainier with a 6 cylinder motor it has s knocking noise coming form the engine. I thought it was the tension pulley and it wasnt. I have oil in the car and lost all power i cant find it and need to figure out whats going on any advice

It's hard for us to "hear" from this distance, so any comments have to be kind of generalized.

First thing I'd ask you is whether the noise is high up, or low down in the engine.

Then, is it a light "tippity-tap" noise or heavy like a hammer on metal?

Is the noise rhythmical or rather random? Does it increase with engine revs?

Can you hear it while driving or is it only at idle?
