I have a 2001 Ford Escape XLS with a 3.0 4 wheel drive in automatic transmission when it shifts from 1st to 2nd you have to get up at 3500 RPMs before it wI'll shift then shifts to drive fine but has no overdrive after you drive it for about 20 minutes it somewhat shifts to second right but still ain't the way it's supposed to be and when you're trying to pass somebody no matter what your speed is it automatically wants to ship the first does anybody know what is wrong with it

You might want to have the throttle position sensor checked--it should be graphed out on a scan tool to look for an erratic signal. If the TPS is off, your transmission will react with symptoms similar to what you stated. So before anyone starts recommending transmission work, check out the TPS. The TPS and MAF sensors measure things like engine torque and send this data to the transmission--so you can see that if it sends wrong data, the transmission isn't going to know what to do.
