Temperature display and Compass display will not work

I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD that was set up for ONStar. The Temperature display and compass started working sporadically and then stopped working completely. The ONStar will turn on (but wont work because it was analog and not digital and Chevy wouldn't upgrade it) but the temperature and compass won't work.

Any ideas

    I would suspect a bad solder joint or ground connection in the mirror itself. There are videos on YouTube of people taking their mirrors apart and finding various defects in there---some have been successful in repairing them.
