Which is better- hard top or soft top in a convertible?

Looking for a red Mercedes Benz convertible. Not sure which I should check on- Hard top or Soft top? I don't know much about this. Can anyone give me some guidance?

    I think it depends a great deal on where you live. If you are in a very hot climate (desert) I would get the retractable hardtop. Why? Because a blazing sun will cook right through a fabric top and it will be difficult for the AC to keep the car cool.

    Another factor is security. If you are in a high crime area, a soft top is very vulnerable to theft.

    The positive aspects of a soft top are fewer complications, larger luggage space and a lot less weight.

    I didn't include an extremely cold climate because owning a convertible in Alaska seems rather odd (to me).

    Last thing to consider--how often you'll put the top down each day.
