Alarm going off

2004 Jeep Liberty with manual locks. The other day a alarm just started going off (horn blowing and lights flashing) could not turn it off. Do not have a key fob as it has manual locks. unlocked jeep as started it and the alarm would not turn off. decided to disconnect the battery and then the alarm just stopped before I got to the battery. Any thoughts on what may be causing this or how to fix it. This is not my jeep, it belongs to my elderly Aunt and she is really concerned about it.

Did you try to start it with the key?

Do you have a spare key to try?

maybe tail lift gate has a bad sender switch
