Ignition?

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, just over 106,000 miles. I am able to take the key out of the ignition while the car is running, and I can still drive. The steering is not affected at all. Is this ok, or is there an underlying issue?

Sounds like a worn lock. I've had this "problem" with my Dodge truck for years with no consequence. I presume if you use the key to turn the car OFF, then the engine will stop running?

Yes. But if I don’t turn it all the way off the radio/electronics will stay on.
