SHIFTING PROBLEM

SINCE PURCHASING THE 2006 PT CRUISER, NEW, IT HAS BEEN HARD TO SHIFT, IN FACT, MY WIFE HAS NEVER DRIVEN THE CAR ONCE SHE TRIED AND FOUND OUT IT HAD A SHIFT PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER 1/2 DOZEN TIMES OR MORE AND THEY ACTED LIKE I DID NOT KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT, AND WOULD SHOW ME THEIR CAR, OR ANOTHER CAR AND SAY, IT SHIFTS THE SAME. I FINALLY AT OVER 36,000 MILES, WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY CHARGED ME TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH CABLE, FOR WHICH HELPED FOR A WHILE, BUT EVENTUALLY STARTED DOING THE SAME THING ONCE AGAIN. VERY HARD TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AFTER STOPPING, AND HARD TO SHIFT TO SECOND AND THIRD OVER 30 TO 40 MPH. FORGET ABOUT DOWNSHIFTING. 4TH AND 5TH NEVER SEEMED TO BE A PROBLEM. I HAVE 64K ON IT NOW AND HAVE HAD A SHIFT PROBLEM SINCE NEW. DID ANYONE EVER HAVE A LONG TERM PROBLEM WITH SHIFTER IN 2006 PT CRUISER. IT IS A CONV., SO IT HAS DOUBLED AS MY TRUCK FOR THE ENTIRE TIME AND I HAVE NO COMPLAINT BUT SHIFTING.

Have you periodically flushed and bled the hydraulic clutch system?
