1999 Silverado Problems
good. Problems, though may be irritating, are cosmetic/fit finish issues and from the looks of it all have been resolved other than the slider. Do you think that the new bumper will rust as quick as the original? They sure are thin...

anyway.....I too had the 7 quarts of oil on the invoice...first change was on the dealer...and i was going away that night...so i drained a quart out in my driveway...then checked it..it seemed low...ended up putting half back.
Next time they apoligized for that...but the invoice still said 7 quarts!
..ends up a tech told me it takes 6.5 quarts...and not 6 as the manual says....so they can't bill for a 1/2 quart....so you pay for 7...I said well then where is my 1/2 quart of Mobil 1 I am paying for??
...he went in the back and gave it to me..
Quadrunner says he puts 6.75 quarts to fill his 5.3.
I am fortunate to have none of the window/door problems you have mentioned.
Good Luck

Any business person would love to have you as a customer! Wanna buy some lakefront property in Arizona?
When it gets very hot...and expands...don't you think more is worse??

PS it is a 99 with small V8.

In 4WD...tires are locked and can't slip or turn at different rates. This is why you don't use it on pavement. On dirt and snow...the tires can slide and slip when turning. On concrete, They grind and damage the drivetrain.
It's not just 99's....Every 4WD made by anyone is like this.
Good luck

Except, of course, the independent four wheel drives like the jeep, hummer, etc.
Swift--
Book calls for 5 for 5.3 and 6 for 6.0

Trust the owners manual, dipsticks vary. I run 6qts in my 4.8L, dipstick reading is about 1/2 way up the crosshatches.
Dealer puts in 6.5...so that it is..

Now to fix it.It WON'T be free, unless you really have a great dealer. But if you get the tools, and can get the panel off,you can put any number of sound deadening materials under it.You just kind o have to wing it.If you go to
www.Crutchfield.com,and look around, they have several types of sound deadener stuff:sheets, paint stuff, bubbery stuff in a bucket, etc.I would guess on our trucks,it will be the white stuff in the bucket. If you have a good dealer, let them try it first, but YOU,or a car stereo place will end up doing it.
I had an 86 Iroc Camaro, and the top of the dash buzzed enough to make me nuts.I complained to the dealer, and he tried to fix it,and he helped, but not enough to really stop it.I took off the dash, and after about a half dozen tries, finally got it stopped.I used the stuff in the bucket,AND I had to use some silcone sealer(the non vinegar smelling stuff, the stinky stuff has a lot of acid in it,and it will rust any steel it touches after a few years)to get the last buzzes out of it.Some buzzy plastic just needs to have some tension on it to stop, some needs to be "weighed down",so the freq of the buzz drops down to where the car noise covers it up anyway.
I ended up putting the white stuff on each side with a piece of rubber hose in the middle of the blob,to stop it for good. And it lasted for 4 years, until I sold it.
What you HAVE to make sure of,is that you DON'T use anything that will melt or soften up in heat!If you do,it will ooze out of the panel in summer heat, and you won't be happy.
Good Luck, and let me know what happens,so I can know what I'm in for...

Good luck on selling your truck, what are you going to get???
As far as other vehicles,I know someone who has a 99 Z28,and if he buys one of the last of the current line in 02,I'm going to buy his if I can swing it.That's about the only type of CAR I will ever buy.I hate FWD cars.....V8/RWD forever!!
email me the details of your ownership experience.
I will post them to a web site devoted to problems
with GM trucks and will also forward to several
people in GM management. Maybe if they continually
get these emails, they will be forced to retrofit
ALL trucks with fixes incorporated into the 2001
design.
Thanks,
Clay Hodges

I took tons of digital pictures of these trucks, including the frame stickers that show the build date. The 2001 showed a 6/21 date. I saw many 2000s in the 6/8..6/9 range but no braces. I even have several pictures of a brand new complete 4wd frame leaning against the body shop wall it had no braces..was built in Canada on 6/6. It did have the complete Trans Xmember attached. I would like to see that shop ticket. Could it be vibration related???? Anyway I will be back in town tomorrow night and will upload the pictures to my web site if you are interested.... Oh BTW there are no new rear door handles.
