I agree that some people are getting all worked up over this tire thing for nothing. There are some people that are really concerned, but I think that a big majority just see a free set of tires. They didn't care about the condition of them before. What about the fact that suv's have been deemed unsafe to drive because of there high center of gravity. There have been deaths as a result of this but that hasn't stopped people from buying them. Maybe some of these people that are truly concerned should asked themselves if this vehicle is right for them and there family.

How can anyone tell if a tire is overinflated or underinflated if it is blown out!

Zack100- I just couldn't wait after driving it around for 2 days. I drove it for 2 hours straight, up and down the freeway then went to a parking lot and could not get it to do the pulsing thing so many owners are talking about. So I just had to buy it. I think it is one of the only one's around this part of Washington (the state) because people have been breaking their necks to look at it. I love driving it.

Smellone- You're right. I'm not disappointed. I think it is going to fit my family and how we want to use it perfectly, and it looks sharp too.

I made a post for the Ford Explorer Sport here a day or two ago and it keeps disappearing! We have a new Exp. Sport two door. The handling we are experiencing is not good. While going along in non emergency conditions the whole vehicle sways when you "gentlty" move the steering wheel back and forth. It concerns me. Anyone else experiencing this?

I ordered my ST back on 6/17. I ordered with all the options except the moonroof. We specifically mentioned the upscale 6-disk audio several times.

We left our dealer alone for a month and then I started reading the posts here. When I learned of the changes, updates, and upgrades I started calling my salescreature.

I couldn't get a DORA out of him, just assurances that everything was ok. When I learned of the radio change a couple of weeks ago I called and he assured me I'd have the audiophile system with subwoofer etc.

My build date is the week of 8/14 (yeah, Monday). I called again on Wednesday and my salescreature has left. The new guy said everything was ok and seemed interested in meeting with me about accessories.

I stopped by Friday, gave him my list of deflectors, mud flaps, etc.

He gave me a DORA that showed a base price of $$75,000$$ and it also showed the standard single CD/cassette radio.

Is it still possible for Ford to fix the radio? Can they switch it to the upscale this late in the game?

What's with Ford's systems and the $$75,000$$ base price?

For you St owners with a rattle that sounds like it is coming from the rear: I had this rattle from the day of the test drive in March. It was not road surface sensitive and happened at almost any speed above 20 mph but was not constant.
I fixed mine as follows: Look inside the passenger side rear wheel well. At the front lower corner the plastic inner wheel well is not attached (by design) and can flop around.
If you gently pull back on it and let it go you will see the contact point about 8" up from the bottom. On mine it had actually worn a depression in the other plastic piece it was banging against. I cut the corner off with a pair of side cutters and the rattle has disappeared.

The remains of the blown tire's tread can be inspected for uneven wear. If there is not a lot of tread that can be recovered, the remaining three tires can be checked. Under inflated tires tend to have the edges of the tires worn more that the middle, sometimes with the sidewall being damaged. Overinflated tires have the middles worn more than the edges. Sometimes bad alignment (i.e. from hitting a curb, etc.) can cause one part of the tread to wear much faster than the rest of the tire. Rotating tires helps to get the most out of a set of tires by evening out wear over the life of a tire (especially important on four wheel drive vehicles). Having proper tire inflation also provides the benefit of better mileage and handling.

After reading an expose on the Firestone plant in Decatur, IL in today's paper regarding testimony in a trial about cutting corners at the plant, I will make a prediction... This plant has had lots of union problems including strikes. I have a feeling that the fallout of this whole recall will be the closing of this US union controlled plant with production moved to cheaper labor areas (Mexico,etc.). Because of the recall, and the news of the labor practices at the US plant, Firestone should not have much problem giving reasons to close the US plant. The company will probably recoup most of their loses of the recall through the use of cheaper labor on future products.
