Almost there. My big problem now is I'm looking for a sierra with a bench (40/20/40) seat that I can test drive to make sure that's the seat I want. My problem is everything around here is upgraded to the max and has the bucket seats (leather - which I don't want). Hey, refresh my memory. If I order a new 2001 will I need to put down a deposit on it, or can I just say, hey order this.

Looks like I'll be paying about $27,800 (+tax & License) for the 2001 Sierra GMC 4wd 4door, 265/75R16 tires, 5.3L V8 engine, Z71 Off Road Pkg, Locking Rear Differential, Tinted Windows.

The dealer wrote on my quote $305 for co-op advertising. There is also 690 dest. charge listed.

    Any advise?

to place a deposit...If you don't there is no obligation on either side...actually, when you really think about it even if you do place a deposit and unscrupulous dealer could sell your truck when it came in...and tell you that the order was cancelled or other b/s. The dealer I worked through took a check for $500 assuring me that he would give me the check back when the vehicle came in. Just needed it to let sales manager know I was serious. Sure enough when it came in, he called me and when I got to the dealership, he had the check and gave it to me BEFORE we looked at the vehicle. I guess it depends on the dealer you are working with. sorry for the long post...

    Truckchic,

I order a Dodge Grand Caravan LT back in '96 from a dealer in Northern VA (about 5 miles from DC) and didn't have to put down a deposit. Now living in North Dakota and ordered a 2001 Silverado 1500 LS with all the options back in May with no deposit. Depends on the dealership and the vehicle ordered. If the vehicle has the right options and the dealer thinks he can sell it if you back out most likely won't ask for a deposit.

    $1K down just for grins???

What are you trying to do? Impress the salesman? $1K in the dealer's hands for 3 months is like about $30. Why give it to them? Screw the dealers as they are out to screw you. Ahhhhh, people like you are the reason we have to pay $30K of a freakin' truck. AHNHHHHHHHHHHH
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Wasnt for 3 months actually it took 28 days from order to delivery.

My dealer was great. COuldnt have been better. I am gonna be paying X amount anyways why not put some down right away???

Maybe put a beer down and realize the down payment has nothing to do with a 30K truck.

    Oh and i have a Z71

had to throw that in there...didn't ya?

I believe you would never got an HD...as you couldn't have a sticker that said Z71

    LOL

I put zip down....as this leaves me no contract if I need to refuse...as long as it's not some custom pink truck with no options that the dealer can't sell....most don't require a deposit.

Give them nothing until the time comes to take it home!

I placed the order ('01, LT, everything) with the dealership on 7-14-00 and called today for an order number. He said the order was not accepted last week because of the leather bucket seats. He has not called back yet with an attempt to submit the order today.

What do you think? Is he jerking me around?

on constraint? Don't think so unless there's a shortage of vinyl cows...think you'd better check in with another dealer...

Anyone have the bench seats as apposed to the bucket? Still looking for one to test drive! Once that's done, my truck will be ordered!

that you have to test drive. I thought a bench seat was a bench seat was a.....
  • truckchictruckchic Member Posts: 105
Well, here's the deal. I test drove one with bucket seats (quite a while ago) and I sat a little off centered from the steering wheel. So, I wanted to see how the bench seats felt.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
so did you have a chance to do this bench test? To tell you the truth, I had the bench seats in my '99 Silverado LS, didn't really care for them along with the center fold down thing of a jig...the 4.8 wasn't all that great, but the biggest gripe I had was the vibration and the regular cab...so I traded it in with 299 miles on it, got everything back and bought a '00 with buckets that vibrates...well the way I figured it one out of two ain't bad...LOL

Go for it, the bench seats are fine...just that I've been driving buckets for so damn long, just feel at home in 'em. My $.02...

beginning to sound like a car salesman eh? Making empty promises? It's been about a week, so unless there is a new definition for asap....Hmm, maybe car sales is your true calling...LOL

Ok, I'm off to test drive one last time this week. I'm going to drive both the same day. Bucket and bench. The bench seat I felt a little small in. I kinda sunk in it. so, maybe if I try the bucket again, I might get a different feel than the first time I drove it. The first time I drove the bucket I left like I was off center from the steering wheel. Anyone else have buckets that feel like that?

    Anyway. That's my update!

the last time that you tried the buckets and felt off centered, did you check if you actually were?...off centered on the seat that is...BTW, are the buckets powered? leather?
