Hello team,
I am in a suburb of Los Angeles and presently in a hotel until i figure out an apartment lease. The hotel is paid up until end of Feb, and i want to close on finalizing the lease on a car. I also don't have any utility bills in my name in California to switch my DL to California state.

I came from Chicago, where car is not required for basic travel ,so i didnt buy or lease one ever for 6 years and it's tough to not have one at the place where i stay.
Do you foresee any challenges leasing out of state?

If you are staying in LA, go to the DMV and get a CA license. Use the hotel address, if you have to.
Also, look into car insurance before you start on all of this. With no prior insurance record, it might be very expensive.

Thanks for the response. However, I cannot use the hotel address as it's not a source of address proof..I guess i have to wait to get into an apartment lease then?
Also, could i , for now, register it with Illinois(in CA) and then change the registration back after i settle down (may be after 2 or 3 months?)

If you need to lease now, contact a dealer and tell them your issue. If it can be done, they will do it.
Do not lease with an Illinois residence. Illinois collects the full amount of sales tax upfront. When you switched it to CA, you'd then have sales tax added to the payment.

    Otherwise, I'd wait

Thank you so much! I'll just wait out in case they can't do it.
