Tacoma Shortage?

I was discussing a 2021 Tacoma Off Road lease with a dealer in Utah and was told that Utah dealerships are not participating in Toyota’s advertised lease deals because of a Tacoma shortage. Huh??? I thought the finance stuff was up to the leasing company, not the dealership. Does this sound shady to anyone else?

When you look at an ad on the website, it comes with a disclaimer that dealer prices may vary.

So, they still use TFS lease programs, they just don't offer the price needed to match the ad.

IOW, internet ad pricing is worthless.

I’m not sure the price was the issue; we “built” the vehicle on Toyota’s site to match the exact MSRP of the one at the dealership. Their exact words were, “The Utah dealers are not participating in the national lease ad at this time due to the inventory shortage”. I’m checking with other dealers, but I’m wondering if anybody else has heard of any similar issues due to a shortage.

It’s just another way of saying what I just wrote. The lease ad assumes a dealer discount, that this dealer isn’t willing to provide.

That isn’t unusual. In fact, it happens more often than not. (and, not just in Utah, and not only on Tacomas).

It’s always good to ignore everything the dealer says, except for the actual price. The rest is usually BS.
