Hyundai Azera - Low key touches of luxury

I think enough has been posted about this. There are heating elements that keep the wipers de-iced as stated in the brochure and they are de-iced by a heating element. We all know by now you live in South Florida. If you ever travel you might find the de-icers a nice small touch of luxury.

The Hyundai Azera, like many other cars, has an electric WINDSHIELD deicer, which is activated with the rear defroster switch. If this is what you refer to as a windshield wiper de-icer, so be it. There are no electrical connections or heating elements in either the wiper arms or blades.

    RE;
Who is the obsessed forum participant?
Perhaps you should have your WINDSHIELD deicer checked, as it is supposed to deice the entire windshield.
Bye the way, the sunshine in South Florida was indeed very nice today. Thank you!

    What are you talking about?

    RE: 59
I woke up this morning and realized that this banter is ridiculous. We both purchased our Azera's to enjoy them.
We post on these forums for whatever reasons, but probably because we enjoy cars and like to talk about them.
I apologize if I offended you in any way, and hope that you are enjoying your Azera, as I am enjoying mine.
  • pahefner01pahefner01 Member Posts: 202
I agree with you Bob. I am enjoying my Azera as I hope you are yours as well. We could discuss whether that opening in the roof is a sunroof or a moonroof....just kidding. My apology as well. I do come here to share information and get information as well. I'm willing to just agree that Hyundai put a "thingy" on the car to keep the wiper blades from collecting ice and snow and I'm glad that it works.

Here's a picture of the windshield deicer that floridabob1 refers too.

It is not that the arms are heated themselves. The windshield wiper deicers refer to the strip on the windshield that the arms park to. If you look, it looks like a black portion on the lower windshield - behind the blackening is an element to keep the windshield wiper arms from freezing to the windshield. It will to some degree limit the build up on the glass too.

There are differences (albeit minor) between the 06 and the 07, and you don't need to look at the specs to notice them. Have a look at your local Hyundai dealer between the two model years, and without looking at the details, you would see the sidemarker indicator added on the Limited model.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
What's with the manual tilt and telescopic steering column.
They should include options available such as the Ultimate package that has memory seats and power tilt and telescopic column, moon roof etc.
The 07 remote steering wheel audio control does more than "seek up/down"
The specs are for the base Limited only.

If I get on this forum and see your banter one more time I will have to increase my meds. With 672 posts I guess you are here all day long. You should only post in the event that you have something informative to share. Apparently, I forgot to take my meds.... :surprise: Just kidding....who said that... :confuse:

There are plenty of folks who post a lot in the Forums - and I'm not even sure I'd put floridabob1 in the "a lot" category, from what I've seen. There are many people whose posting numbers would put him to shame. :) (See mine, for example. :P )

And guess what... the community welcomes and benefits from prolific posters. So jump on in and post away!! ;)

I remember you. Based on your comments (post #140) in the "Front end problems" forum, you should practice what you preach. It seems to me that floridabob1's postings are more helpful that not.

Let's move beyond the personal comments.

But I will add that "the more input, the better" is exactly how we feel around here. :)

    Back to the car...

I was checking the audio and cruise control switches on the steering wheel and was disgusted to find that some protruded further out than others. Sloppy workmanship? No, just a low key touch of luxury. The central switches are the protruding ones and the driver can easily locate the sitches by feel rather than taking his eyes off the road. Not a big deal, but it makes me like my Azera even more.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
The glove box has a damper attached on one side for smooth opening and has an elastic strap across the back of the interior to hold documents up out of the way...
  • akoni1akoni1 Member Posts: 35
Those tiny windows behind the rear door windows, wow! I get a thrill every time I see them. And the sweet shape defined by the tops of the side windows. Also the luxurious feel of the fake wood steering wheel. It doesn't take much to thrill me.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
Hey, if you like that what about them wide sexy hips on both sides o' th' trunk?... ;)
  • akoni1akoni1 Member Posts: 35

How about that humidity sensor on the dash that automatically turns on the AC if the humidity gets too high?Nice touch.
  • sundevilssundevils Member Posts: 100
I believe the climate control system must be set to "Auto" for the humidity sensor to work.
  • jaymagicjaymagic Member Posts: 309
Have any of you noticed that when you use the key fob to unlock the Azera, that if you don't get to the car in about 25-30 seconds, it automatically relocks the doors?
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 100
    Yes.
This feature has been posted before.
Apparently the re locking after a period of time is performed in the event that the doors were accidently unlocked.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
A lot of cars with the remote door lock/unlock feature do this very same thing.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
It's a good thing that the trunk lid doesn't rise when the unlock button on the remote is pressed (as I've noted with some Cadillacs) 'cause it's too easy to accidently press a remote button while the fob is in your pocket (and I've accidently pressed every one of them, several times over).

There you are, out Christmas shopping, lots of gifts in your trunk, still shopping in a store for that last special gift, you accidently press the trunk open button, the lid lifts and a bum walking by your Caddy says "MERRRRRRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!!!"... ;)
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
And all this time, I was wishing that it did raise up on its own for times when you have your hands full. Putting it in that perspective...you're right. :surprise:
  • scbobscbob Member Posts: 167
Funny story. We had a consultant visit our office and my boss went to get something out of her trunk. She told him to just press the fob and look for the open trunk. He kept pushing the fob, but never could find the car.
Two of my employees were taking a smoke break and kept closing it because they could not see anyone else in the area. Thought it was a defect.
Personally, I prefer that it does not open and I really like that you can open it without a key if the car is unlocked. :D
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
"Personally, I prefer that it does not open and I really like that you can open it without a key if the car is unlocked."

At first I wasn't too sure I liked that, but when you lock your car as you exit, or exit, then hit the key-fob lock, either locks the trunk as well. And the trunk isn't unlocked until you've unlocked your car doors, and you're not gonna unlock your car doors (or trunk) if your car is surrounded by a bunch of unsavory characters, so the unlocking trunk is a feature I've come to accept!... :shades:

    RE: 106
The self opening trunk makes it easier to throw the "unsavory characters" in, for the drive to the police department.

I like the nice little extras on the Azera like the Opera windows. They could have saved money by just filling that space in with sheet metal, but instead put in all the trim, glass, framing etc to have that cute little window.

How about the larger tires? The damped grab handles? The fully trimmed trunk? The torquey 3.8L engine rather than a 3.2 or 3.5? The continuously variable CVVT rather than two step VTEC? The engraved 'Azera' on the step plates? The monogrammed floor mats with little hooks to hold them in place? The trunk lid arms that don't crush the cargo? The sticky fake wood wheel that takes less effort to hold at 10:00 and 2:00 than leather on a warm day?

The secret passwords that are needed to make the AC work as conveniently as my '70 Chevelle? Still don't know the difference between the Recirc button and the Air Quality button, or how to make the sunroof open or close or tilt on the first try! (Why not three buttons clearly marked 'Open', Close', and 'Vent'??) Still haven't found a use for that Rear Sunshade, but at least it's one button for Up and one for Down!!

The AT that shifts up or down whenever it wants to, regardless of what you do with the 'manual' shifter!

The fact that the Azera is smaller on the outside and larger on the inside than most.

    The five extra spokes.

The green glass that works OK, but doesn't look as nice as a dark tint.

The fact that I bought an Ultimate, but it still says Limited on the trunk. (Actually it doesn't, because I removed the dealer sticker, the 'Hyundai', and the 'Limited' from the trunk, so people have to guess what the H that 'H' car is!!) "Is that the new Hummer sedan??"

The long leg room for the rear seat is nice, but I don't sit back there, and I would really rather have an extra inch or two for the driver instead!

That the memory seat doesn't work with the key off, so I climb in, turn on the key, and get crushed before I can hit my memory switch because my little wife was the last one to use it!

That the Auto wipers cycle every time the ignition is turned on, scraping the dust and dirt across the glass.

The electric folding mirrors that I would gladly trade for 'tilt down in reverse to park' mirrors.

That it doesn't use a 'regular' oil filters that I can buy at WalMart!

That with the help of Amsoil 0W-20 we often get 32-33 mpg on the interstate.

That my wife likes her Azera better than her previous Acura CL, Acura TL, or my Magnum!

That in 18 months we have seen so few Azeras on the road that it's like driving a custom or exotic car! (Chapel Hill, NC is loaded with BMWs, Acuras, and Mercedes. I've seen more Porsche Cayennes than silver Azeras!)
  • hjc1hjc1 Member Posts: 183
    One little note
I like the top mounted filter....no more oil running down arm :=)
By the way Walmart does have the Azera filter
    FRAM CT 9999 $5.50 ea

    P.S.
I trained my wife to push the memory button when she leaves the car :=)
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE:109
It's good that you trained you wife, but that doesn't answer the question of why the memory system does not operate without the key in the ignition, or why the power pedal adjustments are not incorporated into the memory system.
Poor engineering initially, then stubbornness to not correct in second model year.
The "tilt in reverse" side view mirror issue, which is included in my owners manual was never corrected.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
I can help with a couple!
    ----------

"Still don't know the difference between the Recirc button and the Air Quality button..."

The AQ switch (if turned on.. led lit) allows two sensors under the front bumper to cause you to automatically go into or out of recirc. mode depending on the sensed levels of hydrocarbons or fine dust in the outside air. The recirc. sw by itself is a manual override, by your choice.

    ----------

"The fact that I bought an Ultimate, but it still says Limited on the trunk."

"Ultimate" isn't a model, it's a package, the other choice (for the Limited model) being the "Premium" package, and neither package appears as a nameplate...
  • scbobscbob Member Posts: 167
New safety rule-hold wheel at 4 and 8. Keeps the airbag from hitting your arms if it deplys.
Assume you know how to get vent only and still use the fan as part of the secret passwords.
Sunroof worked just like my Camry-probably a standard Asian design.
In on mode, sunshade automatically goes down when in reverse and up when in park or drive. Press button to turn it off and it stays down.
Park next to a Lexus GS or other cars and you will be surprised how much larger it really is outside.
I only turn my auto wipers on when it I want them on. As the manual says, they can come on in car washes or at other times when they should not otherwise.
Tried a Lexus with tilt down outside mirrors and really didn't see the advantage. Much prefer being able to fold them in from the driver's seat. Have done it on curvy, very narrow mountain roads and do it lots in parking lots where spaces are too narrow.
It is nice driving a car that almost no one else has.
If the ride were better over rough roads, it would be a 10.
Congrats on getting the best car in its class. Believe me, I tested all of them. :)

Saturday driving to school I saw two Azera Limited's woo hoo! One White one Tan. Mine is still cuter  I'm mad that they were holding up the fast lane so I had to show them how to open the car up...LOL
  • cdmuilecdmuile Member Posts: 152
I personally use the folding mirrors quite a lot. Really almost necessary when using a drive up ATM or any other drive up service. I also make it a point to fold them after parking. Thwarts punk creeps from vandalizing.
  • fourteen14fourteen14 Member Posts: 85
I have used the folding mirrors, the rear sunshade, and an ATM about the same number of times - once to see how it worked!! I have never been to a car wash, never ordered anything at a drive up window, do not allow food to be eaten in my car, and have never used a cupholder or ash tray.

I almost alway back into parking spaces, and if there isn't enough room, I'll park somewhere else! Love that 'tilt in reverse' mirror!

I get my cash at the bank from the pretty teller inside, and only use it for the collection plate at church. Everything else goes on my 'Cash Back' credit card, even the $11,000 I recently spent for roofing! ($110 back on that deal!)

Different life styles, different wants, different needs!!

PS: Is it false advertising for Hyundai to show all the Azeras in the Azera brochures with sharp looking deep tinted windows, but only sell Azeras with nearly clear 'green solar' glass??
  • pahefner01pahefner01 Member Posts: 202
Different life styles, different wants, different needs!!

You seem to be the exception. I had the fold down mirrors on my XG350. Having the fold in mirrors on the Azera instead of the tilt down mirrors is a wash to me.

If you lived in a hot climate you would love the sunshade. I think cars are designed for the general public and most of us do use ATMs.

I had my windows tinted dark for $200. I park on the end parking spaces so I have extra space betwee my Azera and whoever my open their door too wide. No problem with backing up for me and the sunshade automatically goes down for me.

It's not false adverising for Hyundai to show the cars in the brochure with sharp deep tinted windows when the brochure states that some cars are equipped with optional items. I would assume that when you test drove an Azera you noticed that it either didn't have tinted windows, or they were identified as an optional item at extra cost. Most automakers brochures now show their cars with dark tinted windows.

Owners have a 50-50 chance getting the key in the ignition the correct way. Fix: Paint top half of the key white. Insert key white side up. Your welcome. :D
  • garym1jgarym1j Member Posts: 46
I really appreciate the honesty of your entry. I can relate to several things you said which validate earlier observations. For instance the windshield wiper making one sweep while in the auto position when starting. I hope Hyundai monitors this forum. Again, thanks for your thoughtful entry. :D
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Are you talking about the ignition key for the Azera??? Looking at mine, the key is cut identically the same on both sides, it doesn't matter which way you insert it, it will still start the car.

However, if one needs to identify one side over the other, painting isn't necessary. I don't know about you other Azera owners, but my key has a series of three raised dots on one side and on the othe side, it's two raised dots with an "M" in between.
  • garym1jgarym1j Member Posts: 46
Thank you for your response. I made a mistake. After trying again, it the key certainly works either side up.
I have no idea why I could not make the key function.
Fortunately I only painted one key. No chance for me to be a rocket scientist.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Trust me...I have no better chance at being a rocket scientist than you! ;)

Re: My favorite: The Air Quality System. Only BMW and Lexus have this, as far as I know, and it alone is worth buying a Hyundai for, in my opinion. I love not having to breathe exhaust fumes anymore.

I was wondering about that today. I was sitting at a light with a diesel bus
spewing exhaust and I was wondering why I wasn't smelling it. I didn't know
that was the reason. Thanks for mentioning it.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
You don't fully realize all that the cabin air-filter is doing for you until 10k miles have gone by and you pull out the old filter to replace it! Picture a smoker's lungs, with bits of bugs... :shades:
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
So, here's my solution to the key fob imbroglio: A small carabiner, a small split-ring; no more in-pocket button pushes, no more scraping-bumping along the dash.

I'll let the key go nekkid, or maybe I'll add a soft leather strap with a quick-release to the key and attach it to my house key-ring for pocket carry, removing it for automotive use so I don't have a lot of weight hanging down and wearing the auto's key mechanism...
