I used to drive around with the Odometer displaying total miles. Then it dawned on me that I don't learn anything from that display. Don't need to track mileage, the truck will tell me when it needs an oil change. I still check the overall mileage when I record each fillup.

Now, I drive around with the display on Trip Odometer. I know how many miles I get from each 1/4 tank, and can estimate fuel economy from the gas gauge and trip meter.

If something goes wrong, I can tell within 1/4 tank that I have a big problem.

Anybody else leaving the Trip Odometer displayed?

Awhile back someone was talking about getting window vents that did not use any glue tape, they attached some other way. But I did not catch the brand name of them if someone could repeat it please. Thanks you guys seem to always know the answers some way or another. Thanks Jim

Contrary to what others have said about it, torsion bar adjustments for ride height have hardly any influence on the camber. I can't explain, except to say the wheel plane remains fairly constant, even as the A-arm pivots, due to upper and lower linkages.

Mounted my scope, a Leupold Vari-XIII, 6.5-20x50mm, side focus, 30 mm tube, target turrets, mounted on my new Savage 10FP Tactic, heavy barrel.

Took it to the 100 yard rifle range to sight it in with Federal Gold Match .223 cal, 69 gr boat tail match bullets.

    Whoa....!!!!! Thing is PINPOINT accurate!
Elmer Fudd never had it so good.
Can hit a dime at 300 yards and give you nine cents change! Whoohooo....
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
does the accuracy also include moving targets... ;)

    ryan

mine are German engineered. If you had taken the time to research this particular item...the one I got can't be beat. Got a set of all four windows shades for the Denali also....one thing bad though; when truck owners see them, they always have to ask where I got 'em....after awhile it gets to be a pain....

I used to have an '87 S10 pickup (I know I'm showing my age). I put a 3" body lift on it, changed the shocks (Rancho 5000) and cranked the torsion bars. I was able to get 30" tires on it. It looked really nice but every year at inspection time I have to replace my ball joints. Luckily my brother is a mechanic so it was cheap enough to do it. My point is that I don't know if it was the cranking of the torion bars that did it or a combination of S10 ball joints (Car not Truck) and all of the mods. I am very weary of cranking my torsion bars. I would be interested in hearing from anybody that has done it and has been driving it for a while.

It's mine! Picked her up on Saturday:
2001 Z71 ExtC. Carmine LT w/ graphite int. Took her home and stuffed her in the garage. It's such a tight fit, I practically hear the release of a vacuum seal when I drive her out.

Ok, who's GM trying to kid with the supposed floormats? So what aftermarket floor mats have you guys bought? Has anyone found a floor mat that goes from one side to the other for the back seat?

I'll have to use that one when I go back up!

Venison - low Fat...all natural.....and I can't think of anything better to go with beer!

..while I still have the GM mats...the catch-all brand are very good....and they have a full size rear mat as well...

since ryan always does this to (for) me, i'll go ahead and say...ryan has huskylinings floormats. if you go to www.performanceproducts.com you can find a good selection i believe. and they make one that rides the whole way across the back too.

    ...for the floor mat recommendations.

I've got a few inches of clearance to play with, but the truck is 219" and my garage is 220". Unless, I square the back bumper up to the back wall, the garage door won't go down.

Anyone else buy any of GM's extended warranty at time of purchase? I bought the 50,000/6 year package for $1270. I was told that is dealer cost. I have 60 days for a full refund if I change my mind. I only average about 8000 miles a year, so it was an educated(?) gamble.

I don't know a lot about torsion bars, but I do know that when you do something like that, It is probably worthwhile to have your front end realigned. For those of you who live around Bellflower, CA, there is a shop who does all kinds of frontend work on lowered, raised, and customized cars. It is called B&D Alignment, on the northeast corner of Lakewood and Alondra. I started going to them in the late 60's when I lived there, and still go there when I drive to So. Cal. Last time I was there, there was a great looking customized and lowered Chev. truck in there. While I was waiting I talked to the driver and said that B&D was the only shop that could make it drive right. He had it customized at Gaylords Customs, and Gaylords told him about B&D. He said that other people have went in to other local shops and they said the front end could not be adjusted right because they had been lowered. B&D fixed them all. So if you have questions about front ends, you might try them. They have been there a long time.

Racks are ok, tall and decent symmetry, but the bodies are pretty puny. Must not be much for deer to eat where you are at. Most six pointers around these parts are close to 200 lbs. My nine pointer weighed in at 216 lbs last year.

They need to put them deer on steroids.

for amount of squat (static sag) desired is that you would like to be at least 25% into your suspension travel and no more than 33% into your suspension travel when the vehicle is at rest.

In other words, if our silverados have 6" of travel in the front suspension, the truck should travel somewhere between 1.5" and 2" into the suspension movement when just sitting on level ground. If you go less than that, your on road and off road suspension performance will be poor.

Anybody know total front suspension travel on our 1/2 ton 4x4's. If we knew that, then you could just jack the vehicle up until the tires barely clear the ground and take a measurement to the frame/bumper then drop the vehicle down, and adjust torsion bar preload to be within that range......

  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Im kinda starting to think like tim on this subject. Scotters idea is good but the salt needs to be washed off.

Dean no frostys or snowballs yet. Just getting flurries. I want a blizzard at least there would be a reason to be so cold.

Oh yea quit bragging about your weather dean.

...like $7-$11 are OK for me...

them cheapee $3.00 ones are the old systems that are crap...

I am not going to spend 2 hours feezing to wash a truck......period...

  • scootter31scootter31 Member Posts: 31
Does that make it taste better?

Anyone notice there rear windows rattle ( flap open and closed ) in the colder weather? Or am I the only one with this problem?
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
...it may just be you?.....but I just took a 500 mile trip and it was fine for my winders....75 the whole way....and 32 degrees...

in 25K miles....I have yet to have rear window leak.....make the suckers so they don't open at all for all I care...

    - Tim
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Salt is from the road. When it rains and snows and gets cold it freezes. Big trucks throw salt down to melt the ice. This salt gets on the truck.

I don't care if the suckers open ether. Now you've got me thinking hot glue gun and duct tape!

    Ryan:
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on salt and ice.
Can you explain why we park in driveways and drive on parkways?

Don't answer that, I'm just playing with you.

the passengers once to see it open....drivers side has not been opened yet....since they are not power....I say it's one of the dumbest options...

    My 3 cents

    - Tim
  • bcobco Member Posts: 756
if the weather's so nice, maybe you can get out and take a picture of your tindra for us??? LOL!!!

scooter...my only guess on the rear window rattle in cold weather would have to do with the rubber gasket becoming more brittle in colder weather. everything shrinking in other words. the more shrinkage, the more "open space". the more open space, the more rattle.

now, gotta go out and get me some silicone and do the boot 'round my windshield before this 500 mile trip north for turkey day. i noticed to that the colder the weather, the more rattle i get there...
