Look at www.gmbuypower.com select 02 Aztek and you will be able to get one, hopefully near you. Hurry though you only have till tommorrow!

I don't find them accurate at all! I've looked up the '01 and '02 Azteks in my area (NYC) and I find listings. But when I go check (3 different dealers) they are nowhere to be seen. I found a '02 listed in Staten Island but the dealer said they didn't have one and didn't know why it was listed. The same dealer had several '01 but weren't listed? Very unreliable IMHO.
  • nextmoonnextmoon Member Posts: 386
I checked out a '01 Aztek (over the freezing cold weekend) and notice something odd in the cargo hold. On each sides at the rear, there seems to be a series of exposed pullies attached to the steel cord that attaches to the drop-down hatch? When I looked more carefully in the brochure, I don't see the exposed pullies. Can someone tell me if the brochure is wrong of that particular vechicle is off somehow (it was missing the cooler and rear tray even though it was fully loaded GT)?
  • gregeastongregeaston Member Posts: 128
I don't know about pullies, but I know that the GT comes with the tray and cooler. Those will be listed on the window sticker. If it's not, make sure the sticker's VIN matches the car.

Alot of dealers have been stealing the coolers and doing God know what with them.

I found out the hard way after buying a replacement bulb out of my pocket and not keeping the receipt. My local mechanic looked at it and said take it in, he didn't want to risk it and he thought it might be under warranty....it was.

After replacing the bulb, the dealership didn't put the clip back in all the way so about a week after they did this I came home from work and found my headlight DANGLIN' by two wires. I was able to get it snapped back in myself, but that clip IS a PAIN!
  • amoralesamorales Member Posts: 196
We purchased ours the 21st of October. The dealer had the Cooler in the parts dept to avoid theft. Tray was on vehicle. Also don't forget to inquire about the CAMPER option. It is free if you purchased before the 31st. GM shipped ours within two weeks. Had to remind Dealer, they were not aware of free Camping kit while supplies last. I found out by surfing the internet and researching the AZTEK. Try negotiating for a free camping kit. Good luck.

    Andy

Happy New Years to all AZTEK lovers and haters...

I could see that they'd removed the cooler for security but this salesman was somewhat odd. I asked specifically about the free camping packages and he said the offer was over since July and now must be ordered. He did nothing to point out features and stuff so I asked to look over the Aztek alone with my gf in the lot. He was fine with it and even gave me the keys to start her up and went inside. He even disappeared for a while leaving me alone with the keys and the driveway to the lot only 10 feet away.

Hmm, I may look into another Aztek to see if the pullies are exposed on other ones (not from this guy).

I am having a hard time finding a spot on the internet where I can find things like the camping package, etc. Any help out there?
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
Was there still a promotion for the camping gear going at the end of this year? If so, where could I get some information so I can get my salesperson to file the proper paperwork?

Matt - probably one of the more comprehensive locations for Aztek accessories is www.gmpartsdirect.com. Fairly easy to navigate. I bought two things from them and one didn't come with directions. I emailed them and four days later got the instructions in the mail. I was impressed. And their prices are reasonable.

www.gmgoodwrench.com This is on the Pontiac accessory brochure # BR06040001 copywrited 2000. entitled: GM Accessories feel the personality AZTEK 2001 PONTIAC DRIVING EXCITEMENT.

Also visit sales manager, print out these message boards, pursue your free camping option.

I answered your personal e-mail. Will try and find the web page i printed out. It may have been MSN new vehicles or Edmunds....

The free camping offer was good thru Dec 31st 2001 " while supplies last"

matt - The camping package includes the tent and the air mattress. The mattress is nothing special, except it is sized for the Aztek floor. The tent can be bought alone and is a GM part number (as is the complete kit). Here is some text from post # 2714:

"BTW if you decide to get just a tent, my dealer said it can be ordered from them (p/n 12417515) sans mattress for $119. When I tried the part number on www.gmpartsdirect.com where I get parts a lot, it came up unavailable so maybe try www.grandautoparts.com (they can quote you via email). Both places have GM parts for Major markdowns (>30% !!) from retail."

BTW the web ordering engine at grandautoparts is currently down so your order will go nowhere; call them instead if ordering from them.

Good luck and happy trails... check out our pix of the camping package in the wild, at:

    Hello everyone

I am just wondering if the $2002 rebate for leases and buys applies to teh Aztek? They said it applies to everything in the commercial but what is "everything"?

Also, does anyone know how long of a wait it would be to have one ordered? So far I can't find one with the 1SC pacakge, red accent inbterior, red exterior,6 disk changer.
All the ones I have seen have the darn sunroof and I want teh Onstar so I am ordering. If the $2002 applies to the Aztek I can get one now :-)
  • montanafanmontanafan Member Posts: 945
$2002 on all 2002s includes Aztek. Do not know how long it takes to get one built, check with your dealer. The rebate runs until Feb 28th. Are you looking for front wheel drive or all wheel drive? Saw an all wheel drive with OnStar over the holidays in Attleboro (Cerrone http://www.youllbegladyoudid.com ) in Maple Red. http://www.gmbuypower.com shows a Bright Red all wheel drive one at Bill Dodge in Westbrook, ME with OnStar.

I ordered my black 02' with similiar options with no problem. I saved alot of money going that route also. Just go up there tell the dealer what you want tell them to order it and then tell them they didn't have to do any work, so you'll give $200 over invoice. Also I checked www.pontiac.com and 0% is still available on the Aztek, or 1.9% for 4years (what I got). You'd probably be better off getting the 1.9 or the 0%than the rebate. I'm loving my 02' by the way and I highly reccomend the towing package!! My Aztek is a completely different ride with it vs. without it. Towing package offers stiffer shocks and a free air compressor for only $350, well worth it trust me.
  • malibu99malibu99 Member Posts: 305
Thanks to all who replied. I will check those sites and see what I can find. :-)

I'm pretty much going to offer the TMV value from Edmunds. Can't wait.
  • kermitekkermitek Member Posts: 120
I was at a dealer today to get a part for my Grand Prix. I figured I'd check into the Aztek's too just for grins. Learned a couple things:

    1. I've seen folks complaining about lack of accuracy of www.gmbuypower.com as to actual inventory. Well I had checked this dealer the other night as to Azteks, and their inventory today matched almost exactly with the site. Sometimes it's off, but just as many other times it's pretty accurate from what I've seen.

    2. I looked over several Azteks as to the issue of how the textured-and-painted cladding looks. They had every color there except pewter. I think it looks pretty good having the texture under the paint, kind of custom. They had a bright red one with a good coat of wax on the showrooom floor and it looked great.

    3. I got a 2002 brochure, and it looks well-done (has a cute outer sleeve pointing out the APEAL award). The new option packages are simpler and more logical IMHO.

    4. Salesman said the $2002 applies like was said herein. He also said they had not yet heard as to whether the free camping pkg was going to happen again in 2002, and that the offer ended in December for 2001's. He also said it takes 4-6 weeks for an ordered Aztek to arrive.

corey76 - agree with you abt the towing pkg. It is well worth it even if you don't plan to tow. It also has enhanced cooling eqpt, and I like how the Aztek handles with it since it makes it a little more sporty on curves and ramps.
  • noastarnoastar Member Posts: 108
Personally I think the new 2002s look too station wagonish. Maybe it's just me, but a profile of a 2001 makes it look like an SUV. You have the short boxy middle and the flat front snout. The 2002 looks longer (just a visual effect of course) it looks more like a station wagon to me since it looks longer and shorter.

Also, to those who have been here a while. I check in and post every now and then, but doesn't this place seem... what's a good word... circular. Maybe the hosts who have been here a while may notice. Just seems like we always come back to the same topics. I wondered if kermitek or gregeaston or the hosts get tired of the "review" debates or "tire" talk or what not. The camping package has also been a big one that pops up every couple of posts. Maybe it's just me.

    Hi all in this forum

I am a brand new owner of a white 2002 Aztek with tow package and the 1SB package with sunroof. I got my car on January 2nd. I found it through BuyPower, and the dealer explained to me how this works. It is placed on BuyPower once it is build and allocated to the dealer. It might be on the dealer lot, or it can be in transit, but one can buy it at that time (which I did on Dec. 31st)

I have a few questions that might be answered by this forum.

My car makes a strong and loud snapping noise at the windshield in the area above the antenna when it is rather cold (at about 0 to 10 degrees), if it is driven over a rough and bumpy road. The noise becomes lesser once the car gets warmer (from the outside) as it is now here in western Wisconsin and the dealer tech. Is not able to find it. It sounds to me as if a body twisting causes a breaking of the adhesive bond between windshield and body do to poor adhesive contact (unclean surfaces prior to adhesive application). Any suggestions out there?

The other question is regarding tires. I want to find winter tires for the vehicle and can’t find anything for the 17” wheels that I have. There are tires available for 16” wheels or 15” ones. Can forum members give me some info on the wheel specs that would enable me to find a 16 or 15” wheel at a junk yard?

What is the deal with the camping package since I cant see any clear direction about it in this forum?

And lastly, what are good sources for vehicle accessories such as bug shields, etc.

And here is some info on me. I live in North Western Wisconsin, rather close to the twin city. My 16 year old son and I are into restoring old British sports cars. Presently we own a 1963 Triumph TR4 and a 1977 Triumph Spitfire that we use as our summer daily drivers (I drive the TR4 and my son drives the Spitfire). We also own a 1938 Oldsmobile Business Coupe that is driven by my wife. Our normal cars are a 1998 AWD Safari Van and now the Aztek that replaces a 2000 Chevy 4 Door Tracker.

Great post, full of info. Looking at the 2002 Brochure, I have thought White to be the most improved looks with the new paint schemes. Camping Package: As a incentive, Pontiac offered a free camping package with 2001 Aztek purchases from July to November 10th. With the addition of the spoiler to the 2002s, the current packages will not fit. Pontiac has posted that new camper packages will be available shortly after the first of the year. http://www.tirerack.com has been recommended by others as a good place to find tire & wheel info. On the noise, if you place pressure against the windshield from the inside while the noise is happening, does it change? Or if a passanger put down his window and pulled back against the windshield on the outside, does it change? This may help confim your belief. That is how I start looking for noises in my van, with someone else driving, moving around and touching things to see if the noise changes.
  • triumphertriumpher Member Posts: 58
Thank you for your speedy answer. Pushing against the inside of the windshield seems not to change the noise, and I can't convince my son to do the outside job at temperatures around 0 Fahrenheit. I tried TireRack and they have nothing in the 235/55/17 size for winter tires. I think I could find some used 15 or 16" wheels from a van or similar if I know what the bolt pattern and the offset is. The problem with those GM brochures is the missing technical information and the sales people don't know it either.

My reason for buying white results from temperature experiments I did I while agao. I placed several thermocouples in two identical cars, one white and one silver. The white had a charcoal interior and the silver had a light gray one. I had both cars in full sunlight and scanned the temperature once an hour. After 5 hours, the temperature in the silver car (even with the lighter color interior) was 18F higher than the temperature in the white car. This is my incentive to buy white cars.

noastar - Thanks for your continuing inputs in this section, and thanks also to edmunds for continuing to host it! I do not find this section repititious in the least. It might seem so only because occasionally a new owner comes in and asks a question that was discussed long ago (and the edmunds search engine is not completely effective, based on my experience). I don't have any issue with answering such a question again. And each debate over reviews and features is new to me. I'm an unabashed Aztek enthusiast and it's great to have a place to talk about these amazing vehicles.

The part number I quoted for the tent is no longer valid, based on info from montanafan. Sorry...

Triumpher - congrats on your new Aztek! On the noise: my advice is to find a new dealer and leave it overnight so it can cold-soak in their parking lot. Hope you get it figured out soon. The 17" tires you have are a fairly common size. A bunch of choices came up for me at www.tirerack.com , including Goodyear Eagle RSA's for $161 each. Don't unload those 17" wheels, they're worth a bunch!
  • triumphertriumpher Member Posts: 58
Thanks for the info. I have those Eagle RSA's on the car, but I know from earlier experiences with them that they are not good for winter driving. That is the reason that I want winter tires with an extra set of wheels (cheap used steel wheels).

I have another question on the Aztek which a forum member might be able to answer. The illumination pattern of the headlights is not the greatest. Are there any frontend light bars available for the attachment of auxiliary driving lights?
  • kermitekkermitek Member Posts: 120
OK I'm with you now triumpher. I see your point - tirerack for example has NO 235/xx/17 winter tires. For wheels, standard 16" steel or aluminum wheels from a 97+ Grand Prix or Montana/Venture will bolt right on. If you go to 16" there are a lot more choices for real winter tires such as the Michelin Arctic Alpins my friend swears by on his 96 Camaro.

As for the Eagle RSA's, I have had reasonably good experience with them on both my 98 Grand Prix GTP and my 99 Firebird Formula, here in Michigan. Both cars have traction control, which helps. I put 100-200 lb of salt in the rear of the Formula in bad weather so it's not quite a fair comparison. On the GTP, FWD makes a big difference in the snow. There has only been one storm in ~50k miles in my GTP where I came close to "getting stuck".

I can see though how someone might want real snow tires, even on a FWD/AWD vehicle like the Aztek. Some folks have an extreme driveway, or unpnlowed country roads to deal with. Call the 800 number for tirerack and ask their advice.
  • corey76corey76 Member Posts: 63
I have a black one, white was my 1st choice, but alas the black had exactly the options I wanted. I find the headlights to be very bright myself, too bright with the foglights on. I'm not sure where you can get more accessories like that, but I would try the latest JC Whitney Catalog. As far as cheap 15" or 16" wheels to go on your Aztek (I assume you got the AWD) look for a wrecked AWD Montana or any other AWD GM minivan 97' and up. That would be my best guess.

Hey the 02' Aztek is a great car isn't it, I've had mine for 2weeks now and have 1500 miles on it! Gotta ask you though, is that spoiler in the worst place or what?
  • triumphertriumpher Member Posts: 58
Kermitek - I live out in the country and have good experiences with Real winter tires on my AWD Safari. I use Freestone Winterfires, they are cheaper than the Michelins and do great around our road conditions. I will try to find some van wheels and go with 225/65/16 or 215/70/16.

corey76 - I was lucky and found the white one with the onions I wanted, except that I don't care for the cargo area radio controls, everything else is what I wanted. I like that car, I just have to get used to guessing where my front bumper is, this is my first vehicle that has such a rather long (since it starts inside the car and sloping front. Concerning the lights, it might be that mine are not adjusted properly, I have to check that. I have to say that the spoiler does not bother me, I kind of like it since it blocks out the headlights of those cars that try to connect to my trailer hitch, for a cheap ride, I think.

eBay Item #600060934 has a set of 2001 Aztek 16" Wheels up for bid
  • kermitekkermitek Member Posts: 120
triumpher - I was a little off about 17" snow tires. tirerack has two at least in 235/50/17 - Bridgestone Blizzaks and Pirelli Winter Snowsports. Let us know what you end up with!

As for the headlights - our Aztek has the best lights of any car in the family. Especially its highbeams! Adjusting the fog lights elevation is ridiculously easy. I'd suggest adjusting the fogs and the headlights up in elevation until people start flashing their lights at you. Then decide if you still need more light.
  • triumphertriumpher Member Posts: 58
They are pretty spendy! Would 15" ones with 5 holes from a Chevy Beretta fit?
  • noastarnoastar Member Posts: 108
How do you adjust the headlight elevations on both main and fogs? I've asked this before and while I know there is a screw on top of the main lights (down a hole it looks like) I can't tell if it's vertical or horizontal adjustment. Either way I still can't find the other and have no idea where the fog adjust is. The Aztek's owners manual has a lot left to be desired as far as details go.

Also, I was just having a monotonous day and while I wouldn't go as far as to say the repetition in here annoys me, I do notice it from time to time.

Triumph, go to the main gm parts site for a bug shield. You'll find the aftermarket for an Aztek is a mythical realm filled with wizards and fairies (ie doesn't exist). Even though I'm not a huge fan of the 2002s I hope they sell well since aftermarket should be fairly interchangable. There's a single company making interior kits (not very good ones either), no exterior kits, a brush guard set by manik (that according to my local shop will ground out with the Aztek's low ground clearance), and some generic items such as hood scoops. That's about it as far as doing any mods to your tek. Wish there was more, but you can't blame companies for not wanting to put out products when so few people own the car.
  • kermitekkermitek Member Posts: 120
noastar - to adjust fog light elevation, look underneath at the fog light support housing. There's a black plastic hand-nut you can turn without tools, it raises and lowers the light aiming. Sorry don't have time to look around at the headlight adjusters - will be out of the loop due to my job for a few days.

triumpher - ask your dealer about the 15" wheels. They can look it up in a jiffy. Good luck

Yesterday I read in Motortrend that GM is working on enhancing the current 3.4L V6 pushrod to move it into the 230 hp range. They are scheduled to debut in 2004-05. They mentioned it will power some GM cars but no mention on the Aztek/RDV/minivan triplets.
  • amoralesamorales Member Posts: 196
Over in the Buick RDV site, there is input of new GM DOHC engines in the 200-260 hp range coming out in 2004-05. Adding a supercharger to 3.4 should push it up in the 230 HP range.
  • nextmoonnextmoon Member Posts: 386
According to the article there will be no supercharger to bring it to 230 HP. It'll be naturally aspirated. The DOHC engines will be I4's and I5's of the new 4200 I6. It'll be sweeter if they can fit one of the new I5's...

Since this is the step-brainchild of Honda I am sure it will be heralded as the greatest thing to happen to the automotive industry in decades, but it looks and sounds an awful lot like something parked in my driveway today. Does it still get to call itself a concept?

Its time to get rid of this Aztek. Up in Western, Pa. last week, I got stuck twice. It appears when the wheels start spinning the all wheel drive disconnects and a light tells me so. The dealer said this is normal and they don't want you to blow the engine up. Somebody didn't have a good idea. Anyone else having this problem in snow contry
    DCH
  • cfawcettcfawcett Member Posts: 14
Is the traction control on? That shouldn't happen I could only reccomend a tire change, one that would help prevent wheelspin something you don't want anyway. So what happens the front wheels just spin? Really I've had fwd cars before and rear wheel drive cars before and if you ask me a rear wheel drive car is useless in the snow. I don't know I don't have the AWD version so someone else will have to comment.

I would like to take a second to recommend a dealership to anyone out there that is looking to purchase an Aztek. James Wood in Deactur, Texas sold me a 2001 Aztek and they have been excellent. The only dealer that has come close for me in the new car experience was Sewell, which is known far and wide as superior in customer service and satisfaction. James Wood was on par with them, no doubt. Honest, up front, no games, etc. They were wonderful. My wife and I worked with Audra Rhine (GM BuyPower rep) and she was great. I have nothing to gain personally from this, just wanted to let you know that it is definitely worth leaving the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex when purchasing a new car. Especially since one of the largest Aztek (Pontiac) dealers in the country is in Dallas and they are unscrupulous, stereotypical salesmen. Good luck to anyone out there buying, check out James Wood.
  • montanafanmontanafan Member Posts: 945
Here is a site I have seen in other postings, http://www.manik.com/products/pontiac.asp , I am not sure if any of the owners have used them, but it looks good. You could also try the local yellow pages for companies that do handicap modifications, your wife's doctor may even have recommendations. Good Luck.

At teh risk of asking something that is considered repetitive I will ask the following. What have people ( on average ) paid for their 02 Azteks? The one I want has teh 1SC package, 6 disc CD changer, red accented interioors, and bright red exterior listed in Edmunds for 25350 as TMV. If I use the 2002 discount plus my GM points and all I can get it for 24115 ( I have to add my left over lease payments in to the price ). Is it worth trading early ( 4 months early ) to get this price? If this is repetitive I apologize, I am new to this board and I have a valid question :-)
