Am I pipedreaming or has anyone heard of anyone being able to accomplish this?

Scenario: I have about 2k-3k (depending on pricing models) of positive equity in a Nissan Altima lease that I'm due to turn in. Now due to the May policy changes by NMAC I can't have a 3rd party buy out by a company like Carmax, etc. I don't want another Nissan, I'm looking to get into a VW. I know only Nissan dealers can dealer purchase your lease. If I goto an auto group that is BOTH a Nissan and VW Dealer, what are my chances they'll let me apply/negotiate my positive equity into my new lease down payment?

I know I know, is this market buyers don't have the advantage we used but, but hey a guy can dream....

    Won't know until you try....

I don't have any guidance - the rules are changing too fast to keep up.

For what it's worth - I was at 2 years of a 3-year lease on 2019 Rogue SV AWD. Went to a Nissan dealership and they gave me $8,400 above payoff trade value (without even seeing the car / condition upfront). There was also a $1200 rebate on the 2021 Rogue lease. Granted, there was some markup on the new one, so in the end, it ended up being about $8000 below MSRP. So yes - if you can find a dealer that sells Nissans and VW, you should be able to get a decent discount off the VW, even if they are selling it above MSRP.

Well, i ended up extending that NMAC lease for two months due to life getting in the way. Drove an hour and a half to smaller VW Dealership that was part of a group that also owned a Nissan Dealership - and it worked! My buy-out was 13.9k or so and they gave me 16.5k for the vehicle. 2018 Altima SR with 44k miles and a carfax moderate accident on it's history. Wish I could have gotten more but it made a difference in my new VW lease!
