Hi there. I am looking at leasing or buying a 2022 Hyundai Kona for my daughter who turns 16 in March. Given supply chain constraints and the price of vehicles continuing to rise I was wondering if anyone has a point of view on whether I should buy now if I can get it $1000 under MSRP or take my chances and wait until January/February 2022? Hoping there may be some insiders in the forum that might have a better handle on where the market is trending.

Thanks!
Josh

I'd wait. Why buy/lease a car she can't drive for 5 more months?

That was my normal thinking but if demand continues to outpace supply then I could be looking at a car that is $2000 more in February 2022 or just not available. That is the reason for my question. Thanks much.

    Nobody can predict the future.

If you buy the car now, how much will you spend on purchase/lease/insurance/operating costs until she's able to drive it? $2000? More?

No reason to get into the market for a car you don't need.

Why buy a 16 year old kid a brand new car? Why not a 3-4 year old car (maybe a Civic or Corolla)? I think there is a 50-50 chance she will have some sort of fender bender, and mess up a brand new car. Plus, insurance is lower on a used car than a new one. It makes little sense to me to spend a lot of money for a new car for a teenager.
