Did you design it yourself, or find plans on the web? Pretty fantastic.
My brother got really into Lego several years ago, blew a fortune on them, he got into building military models, including large scale tanks that remind me of your VW. He'd find plans on the web. Then all of a sudden he switched gears and moved on, I think selling it all at a huge loss. Oh well.
I was really into making architectural models with Lego, I still have a few that survived the years unscathed, sitting on top of a shelf.
They'd like to sell it all at once, I think I read. Someone could make quite a bit if they knew how to appraise the collection accurately and buy at a steep discount.
The vintage material will be where the value is - I see a lot of relatively modern 1:24-1:18 in the pics, those often don't bring a fortune, but I also do spot some old stuff. Any bid would need to be at a big discount - there's an immense amount of time/labor involved with selling off something like this. Might be good for the hobbyist with free time. Maybe the church could keep a few as kind of a memorial or display.
It is not uncommon for those old 1/24th scale model promo's to be valued in the $100-250 range in Collectible Automobile. But I'm sure that is in very good condition. I know the smaller 1/43 metal models are more popular, but I like how the details can come out on those larger promo's even if they are plastic.
Those promos had excellent detail, and often shared parts with plastic model kits. They can be worth very good money, as mentioned. Matchbox and Hot Wheels before a certain timeframe also can have substantial value, along with 1:43 stuff like Dinky and Corgi. I also spotted some large tin and steel toys in the hoard, those can be worthwhile.
