Not a 'Buying Experience' yet, but hoping so...

Does anybody know if any of the rental companies have CX-9's in their fleet? I'd like to drive one for a couple of days before pulling the trigger.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    my understanding:
$4000 is a manufacturer to dealer incentive. Thus, the dealer only gets the money if they sell the car without using company money (ie. marketing incentives).

$1500 cash back (with associated financing rates like 0%/36mo) is a marketing incentive. This cuts into profits using company money (albeit financing company - Chase???).

However, $1000 loyalty cash back is applicable to both those deals.

hey, you can argue you all you want with the dealer....maybe you'll get a different answer than the rest of us. good luck.

I think thats a good deal. I was just quoted $30,400 +tax on a AWD touring with moon, bose, backup cam, remote start. that amounts to roughly $3600 below Edmunds TMV :)
  • legacygtlegacygt Member Posts: 599
I just got quoted $30,500 plus tax on AWD touring with moon/bose, backup cam and roof rails. The $4K dealer cash is still in effect (not a surprise although dealers in August kept reminding me that it would expire 8/31).

I'm having a little bit of trouble figuring out how a good price would relate to TMV and TrueCar prices. My deal is well below both figures but not $4,000 below. I'm wondering if the TMV and TrueCar prices are skewing down in part because of the dealer incentive.

Hello, just got a used 2007 Galaxy Gray Mica CX-9 Touring FWD with leather and chrome plated original 18" alloys with 45K miles for $21,900 OTD including tax, license and fees. I dont know if it was the greatest deal but it is definately a very nice upgrade to the Mazda5 Touring we were driving plus this vehicle was very nicely kept that if it wasn't for the odometer you could mistaken it for brand new, not a single scratch or dent anywhere...none the less we are very satisfied!

    Carhunter9,

Sorry, I have been in the process of moving. I bought at Irwin in Freehold. I went to Open Road first, but did not have a good experience there.

    ocelot4ark,

yes it was DFW area. I didn't ask for $4000 rebate and I didn't own a Mazda before. Just told them what I need and how much I could pay. Of course there were dealers who didn't answer to my email but now I'm the one who is smiling :P

    Hi All,
I've been searching for a while and have found one that fits what we were looking for pretty close. CX9 GT AWD, with Bose, Nav package. Price quote from the dealer is 34,425, list is 40,215. This includes the 4K and omits any financing.... it does not include any ttl. I'm thinking that I can do better based on what I have read here. FYI, I'm in the north east (RI/MA dealers)
    Thanks,
    J~ :)

Need some advice - my lease on a 2008 cx9 GT AWD (loaded) is ending. I have about 11k miles on it and love it. Price is 26,250. From reviewing the discussions, looks like a pretty good price - what do you all think? Thanks for any advice!
  • nuzynuzy Member Posts: 54
It really depends on supply/demand in your area, but i was able to get the exact same configured GT for $33.3K in IL, so you mihgt be able to do a bit better if you push.
  • steweygatzsteweygatz Member Posts: 8
That is what the dealer is offering me. We ended up not liking the last one they had on the lot so the dealer has offered to find a color to our liking. Dealer said that there are still shipments of 2009s making their way to the U.S. Said it takes about 4 months, so that means May 2009 is when they were ordered. Sounds like there are more out there in the North East. Touring + Pearl Mica + Backup Cam + Moon/Bose + Hitch = $30,318 + tax.

Just curious is this the absolute BEST a dealer can do? Not sure how much dealer can be worked.

Hi everyone. Just brought home a 2009 CX-9 GT, Roof, Tow, Assist. White w/ Sand int. Sticker $39,540. Bought for $4,000 off of invoice = $32,464 + T/TL. I did not qualify for the Mazda loyalty. Bought @ Bob Baker Mazda in Carlsbad, CA. They have 4 more exact color/equipment. The most painless transaction ever!!!! Ask for Mazda sales manager.

I just got a quote of $33,670+T/TL for a CX-9 GT with GT Assist and moonroof/bose. The sticker price is $40,215, so it sounds like a good deal, but it also sounds like there are a lot of incentives right now so I am wondering if it is as good as it sounds. The $33,670 is with the $1000 Loyalty cash. Looking at Edmunds invoice price, it looks like it is $3310.50 below invoice. If they still have the $4000 incentive and the $1000 loyalty that would mean about $1700 over invoice. This is in Colorado.

we got our 09 FWD GT CX-9 w/1MC pkg for $29.5K here in DFW (in Richardson actually) which was $7K below sticker...decided to take advantage of their 2.9% money too (and the salesman through in a cargo net at my urging ;-)
  • nuzynuzy Member Posts: 54
I bought the exact same optioned vehicle for $33.3K + TTL without loyalty cash, so you probably have some room to work them down.

Got my CX9 Sport (Base + power/heated seats) for 24.3k+TTL, which is 6.7k below MSRP (31k). Was shopping around but after test drive I can't resist it. No loyalty cash and no 0% APR. How is the deal?
  • pop_tartpop_tart Member Posts: 5
I basically got the same exact car CX9 Sport (Base + power/heated seats) for 24.5k+TTL a month ago in in the DFW area. I thought I got a good deal. Sounds like you beat me by a couple hundred. Actually if you factor in the $3500 I got from the Clunkers program plus the $500 Mazda was kicking in then I got it for $20,496+TTL but that program is dead now so from a dollars off MRSP/Invoice perspective I think you did pretty good.

    Hey guys,
I thought I got a pretty decent deal, but it looks like wdhyte got the better of me. I could have gotten an additional $1000 if I had waited to buy in September, as I traded in a Toyota (DAMMMMMMMIT). Anyway, my deal was:
    09 CX-9 Touring edition with Bose/Moon package
Pearl White with Sand Leather Interior
    MSRP: $34,625
    Price I paid: $28,181

I think, technically, I probably paid more like $27,000 because I was a little upside down on my Toyota. They basically just upped my trade instead of lowering my offer. All-in-all, I'm happy with my deal. I actually paid less (in aggregate) than i thought I would. The total OTD to my pocket was $1000 less than I thought it would be.

In the Seattle area, I am getting the following deal for $32,040 ($31,040 if i had loyalty discount which i don't). MSRP for car is $40,715.

    CX-9 Grand Touring AWD with
    Moonroof,
    GT Assist
    roof rack
    wheel locks

To me, it seems like a good deal. But, given that 2009s already have a year of depreciation on them, I am not so sure. What do you guys think?
  • wdhytewdhyte Member Posts: 92
i think its a good deal...its over 8.6K...sweet...I'd be all over it down here in TX and from what I'm reading there's little to no diff tween the 09 and 10 anyway (and yeah, I know about the depreciation argument)...still...I think its a good deal. se if ya can squeeze em for a cargo net or sumtin extra too ;-) at NC of course
  • hot2004hot2004 Member Posts: 26
This is the best deal so far - almost 9k (10k with layalty) off MSRP. You should jump into it.

Unless you are planning to sell the car within 5 years timeframe, depreciation does not matter much. If you are planning to keep it for about 10 years, depreciation difference for 2009 & 2010 model will few hundreds considering all other parameters remains the same. And if you are planning to sell it within shorter timeframe, still you are not looser as you are already getting huge discount to compensate the depriciation.

In working the math of my CX-9 Quote at Invoice - $4000, the dealer has informed me that there is a "Pittsburgh Assessment Fee" of $414, :confuse: so the Quote in relatity is really "Invoice - $3586". In researching the other Mazda Forums on Mazda assessment fees, it would appear that this is some kind of "advertising fee" that varies in price around the country. The salesperson sent me the official Mazda Slip that shows this fee, and in fact, this $414 is consistant with another quote on another CX-9 he provided me, so at least its consistant.

    Is this NEGOTIABLE??? Please help.
  • wdhytewdhyte Member Posts: 92
it was billed as an advertising fee here in DFW TX and was pretty much non-negotiable as far as the dealer was concerned. I didn't get a good explanation of what it was nor how it figures in to our deal or how come *I* had to pay for it along with every other Tim Dick and Harry that bought vehicles from them. They just took it out of the equation completely saying it had to be paid...I eventually got concessions elsewhere that amounted to more than the $212 here but still, it jacked my jaws a bit getting spanked for the couple hundred along with all their other buyers. I noticed all their vehicles here had the fee built in and it was the same price. Told me it was the same for ALL the dealers in the metroplex; something set by the local guv't...uh huh
  • jcpharmjcpharm Member Posts: 92
it may be a "real" fee but that's irrelevant. you don't necessarily have to pay for it. if you are happy with the price invoice-$4000 then say "i'll take it for sure if you give it to me at that price" - basically the fee gets absorbed into their profit-margin. if they don't budge, go to another local dealer and see if they will get you the exact same vehicle for invoice - $4k +TTL (where TTL does NOT include the ad fee). this is nothing new to car negotiation....they will always try to get you with fees. i got swindled AFTER we made a deal and they conveniently increased my registration fee by an extra $100 because i was buying an SUV (>4000 lbs.) which apparently costs more to register in the state of NJ than a car <4000 lbs. they will get you any way they can....
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
More than likely, that's a fee assessed by the local dealer group in order to run local advertising.
  • akplnjpeakplnjpe Member Posts: 6
After reading this forum I decided to buy 2009 Touring CX-9 in pearl white(no options). The car was $27,500 and the total OTD was $30,348.50. The deal was closed at Open Road Mazda, East Brunswick, NJ. I just picked it up. I am pleased with the dealership and with the new car.
  • aviboy97aviboy97 Member Posts: 3,159
it may be a "real" fee but that's irrelevant. you don't necessarily have to pay for it.

It is real. It is billed to the car by Mazda. You do pay for it. The only way you can not pay for it is if you negotiate a price below invoice.

i got swindled AFTER we made a deal and they conveniently increased my registration fee by an extra $100 because i was buying an SUV (>4000 lbs.) which apparently costs more to register in the state of NJ than a car

That is not getting "swindled". That is your dealer not knowing all the facts. You have no leverage when it comes to negotiating local / state charges such as tax and registration. It is unlawful for a dealer to make profit on tax or registration. Bottom line, you were not "swindled". Just misinformed which ultimately cost you $100. Sucks either way, but, the dealer did not profit from it.

Just got an internet quote from Fl. dealership for a new '09 CX-9 GT fwd with GT assist package, Rear ent. system/Bose package and Tow package for $34,888 OTD. MSRP is over $40,000 i think. I don't know yet if this is a good deal. I need your opinion guys before i pull the trigger. Thanks in advance.

Recently bought the following for $32,500 + TTL:

CX-9 GT, AWD, moonroof/bose, dockable entertainment, remote start, and roof rack. Blue/sand.

Started out by emailing 6 local dealers and telling them that I had a quote for this setup for $34K and asking if any of them could beat it. Over time, it inched down and I'd update the others with the new lower bar.

There seemed to be a lot more inventory with the black interior, which I didn't want. Could have probably got a better deal if I would have taken one with that.

This forum really helped educate me on things like the rebate and invoice price, etc.

Good luck to all of you negotiating. For what it's worth, I'm extremely happy with my purchase so far. The truck looks much better in person than online IMO.

I'm not familiar with dockable entertainment option. What is that exactly? And where is the dealership located at?
  • jcpharmjcpharm Member Posts: 92
dockable entertainment system is basically a portable DVD player that can be detached from a "dock" that is installed into the roof of the vehicle. it has a larger screen and can easily click into place. it also comes with ability to play games from GameBoy Advance and comes with wireless controllers. you can get it installed aftermarket from a Visteon dealer or Mazda dealership (i got a quote for $895 installed from an aftermarket nonMazda dealer). overall, it seems like a nice system (go to visteon.com for more details on features) although it seems archaic now to use GBA games when Nintendo DS has been available for so long now.
  • talon90talon90 Member Posts: 10
thanks jcpharm. I'm just torn on which option to get. I think you can either get Moonroof/Bose package or Rear ent. System/Bose package but not both. I checked on that Visteon website but i don't think they have any location in Fl. for installation. I'm not also sure, but does the Rear ent. system/Bose package come with 2 Subs? I know the one with the moonroof/Bose package only comes with 1 sub in the rear. Does anyone know any advantage or disadvantage of getting the aftermarket DVD ent. system?
  • jcpharmjcpharm Member Posts: 92
you are correct - it is moonroof/bose OR RSES, but not both. that was the whole purpose of offering the dockable Ent System (for the folks who absolutely needed the moonroof). the pros/cons stem primarily from the "dockability". since it is dockable, you can remove it and take anywhere with you. it is a slightly larger screen (10" vs. 9" RSES). however, because it is dockable, theoretically it can be stolen easier during a car breakin....also if the dockable insert point ever malfunctions, theoretically it can fall out of its dock station and onto your child during a crash. furthermore, it is possible the 10" screen may obstruct rear mirror viewing (my understanding is that the RSES does not obstruct viewing much but that is not first-hand). i can tell you what i did - i got a moonroof/bose (i wanted a RSES but could not find one in my area) and ordered aftermarket replacement headrest DVD players for my two kids. they come with wireless headphones and gaming packages as well. total cost with professional install was <$400 for both. the added bonus is that they can watch their own shows rather than only one with the roof-mounted DVDs. i also have no rear-mirror viewing issues. the downside is that the leather color does not perfectly match (but i don't care) and that people in the 3rd-row wouldn't be able to watch on them (but again, i don't care since my kids sit in the 2nd-row). if you do want the dockable Visteon, as far as install is concerned, you should ask your Mazda dealer how much they would charge to install it and see if you can get the actual hardware from visteon shipped to you directly and save money on the markup of the player itself that the dealer would charge you. i still think you are running in the $600-900 total cost range.

edit: sorry, i missed your question about the subs. i do not know the answer for sure but my understanding was the bose packages were the same (# speakers and subs) but i could be wrong.
  • tashawntashawn Member Posts: 2
I only got the dockable ent system because that particular dealer (Chicagoland) had it in inventory and gave it to me for cheaper than I could get any other one without it. So, it was sort of a throw in for me. My child it too young to use it now, but I figure that the DVD player might be useful in the future.

It will definitely block the rear view when the screen is flipped down. Probably OK for highway crusing, but not for active driving with lots of lane changes. The setup I have comes with only 1 sub. Also, as was mentioned, the gameboy is pretty dated and will probably be ancient history by the time it will be used in my vehicle. If you have kids, I would recommend getting the back of the headrest DVD aftermarket. It's probably cheaper, better quality, both seats will have a screen, and it won't block your view.

I was set on getting a moonroof because I feel like it makes the interior feel roomier. My last car had a moonroof that you could crack open, but not slide all the way open, so I really like this one.
  • talon90talon90 Member Posts: 10
With the aftermarket headrest DVD system like yours, is the sound system integrated with the Bose that's built in or you can only hear through the headphones? I'm sorry about the noob question 'coz i've never had one before. I would imagine that you have 2 dvd players for each monitor and probably an FM modulator to make the sound come out of the car speakers. So, can you have one DVD player come out of the car speakers and the other one listen through the headphones at the same time? Or can the driver listen to the music while the passengers watch dvd through the headphones at the same time? Thanks again. Sorry for all the questions.
  • jcpharmjcpharm Member Posts: 92
yes, FM transmitter allow car stereo linking, but i have never used it. there are built in speakers in the headrests so they can listen to the DVD without headphones. the headphones are more for me and my wife (so we don't have to listen to the cacophony of 2 difference movies going on). i can listen to my iphone/sirius sat/cd/radio etc at my leisure while they listen quietly to their individual movies with the headphones (there are two IR channels on the headphones so kid A watches DVD A and listens in headphones via channel A whilst kid B watches and listens to DVD B via channel B - no signal interference).

the headrests are linking via auxillary AV port so that if one kid wants to watch (and listen) to what the other is watching, one button click allows the two monitors to watch the same dvd (it is two-way so A can watch what is on B AND vice versa).

i have never used the FM transmitter so i have no idea how well it works. good luck.
  • wdhytewdhyte Member Posts: 92
dunno bout where you live but I recall that wearing headphones while driving in TX is illegal (although you see it all the time) and it may well be in most states as well...as a motorcyclist, I really don't like to see ppl wearing them as they are oblivious to whats going on around them and can't hear my 110db air horns when they're changing lanes in to me...fun times on the hwy...sorry for the off-topic...just got me thinking is all.
  • jcpharmjcpharm Member Posts: 92
not sure you are following the discussion in its entirety - my kids in the 2nd-row are the ones wearing headphones. i am listening to my iphone thru the stereo system which is also connected via bluetooth in case i get a phone call ;)
  • gpwatfrd1gpwatfrd1 Member Posts: 1
    shabkap,
I just signed paperwork at the same dealer you are looking at. We were able to push them on price after some time to the point where the GM got envovled. It took a while to get to that point but you should know they will move alot on price if you push hard enough. I ended up with an 09 CX9 AWD Grand touring (msrp $38k). The lease was 1,900 out of pocket(no cap cost reduction) 3yr 12k $449/month which includes tax. good luck!
  • talon90talon90 Member Posts: 10
I checked around in my area for installing these headrest DVD players and the prices varies from $600-$1,200 depending on the brand and the seat material. Of course leather is more expensive in order to match it. I don't know where you got it for <$400 but i sure am interested. I only called over the phone to ask for price info though.
  • jcpharmjcpharm Member Posts: 92
don't buy the headrests thru the professional installers. buy them from amazon.com or some equivalent (price range $190-400 depending on company, features, support/warranty, etc.). ask the professional how much to install a pre-bought replacement headrests - they will start higher ($100-200) but it's negotiable (some people have gotten it for as little as $50-75). if you want color-matched leather then it will run you more because you need them custom made and the price will shoot up.
  • wdhytewdhyte Member Posts: 92
i was following it...i just misread it...went back and saw your statement that the headphones were more for you and your wife...this time I got the nuance...first time reading at Mach 3 I missed it...oh well...still a good observation about headphones for the driver eh? ;) ...just didn't happen to apply to you is all, ha!
    thanks....and sorry bout that.
