    The engine splash guard comes standard on the 4WD models,it can be added as an extra on the 2WD models.

    so i guess according to kjsiegel's odometer, the 100,000 mile warrantee is really only good for 97,778 miles.

    I was taking a look at the air intake on the 2.4 (4cyl), and have a question. I see the intake hose coming out of the intake box, and going down, all the way to the bottom of the engine compartment, then coming up a bit, going under the battery area, and into the side of the truck... but I can't find the actual external intake that this hose is connecting to. Does anyone know where it is?

    I remeber reading 2 posts earlier regarding to taking care of new Santa Fe, eg. speed not to exceed 50mph, oil change, etc etc. Could any of you guys who knows this subject help me out? I want to take care of my new Santa Fe as much as possible. I'm looking forward to drive it for at least 10 years, so I want to make sure everything's right from the beginning. Thanks

    Everything you need to do during the break in period is well explained in your owner manual. It is safer for you to refer to it.

    This is your best source for "ACCURATE" information as to what the engineers who designed that car think you should do to properly break-it in.

    I guess I have the engine splash guard too since my car is the "top model". Not sure exactly splash guard look like or refer too! I never really care about this thing at all I guess I should take a carefully look at this.

    Do not worry to much about driving condition for the Break-in! The manual said you don't have to drive slow for the break-in. Just simply accelerate and brake slow at each time you drive. When I first got my car I drove 75mph but I accelerate slowly and plus brake slowly too.

    Not sure exactly why you want to know about the exhaust intake? However, I will take a good look at it when I have time. I think it is good idea to learn more about the Santa Fe in case we need to do something with it in the future.

    Only the 4Wd come standard with splash guard. The splash guard is a metal plate that bolts underneath the front of the car. It covers the full width underneath and leangth wise it goes past the engine compartment. This plate preventes water from splashing up onto the engine and covering the spark plugs distributor and stalling the engine.

    It is useful also when going through flooded streets to keep from stalling the engine.

    2WD Santa Fe's can order this plate and bolt it on, the bolt holes are in place, and it is easy to connect.

    I mean, 100000 miles on the odometer is 97826 in reality when you know that 18.4 is in reality 18 miles (to calculate, divide 100000 by 18.4 and multiply by 18)! ;)

    i am no high school gradute... cut me some slack.

    what i did was divide 100000 by 18 and then multiply that number by the answer which was something like 2222.2222222222222222
    by .4 and subtract that number from 100000.

    i will stick to web design and let the brainiacs do the math.

    TIRE PRESSURE (IMPORTANT)

    i know we have had recommended tire pressure on the list before but what i dont remember seeing (becase i would have checked) was the fact that these santa fe's are coming from the factory with up to 45 psi in the tires.

    i was doing an oil change and thinking about rotating the tires while i had it up on the lift when i checked the tire pressure. every tire was a whopping 42 psi!!!!

    that seemed pretty odd to me until i read on the net yesterday that toyotas are getting shipped from the factory with 40psi and it is up to the dealer during prep to adjust the tire pressure to correct levels. i suggest people just check thier tires and dont forget the spare.

    i have mine back down to the normal psi with no noticeable sacrifice in ride. gas mileabge might be another thing. haha.

    According to Irchome said the splah guard seem to be the front vehicle skid plate as I have posted in my website. I thought it was something else!

    Calculation:
    That is a funny statement base on kcorcoran. I really like your sense of humor. Yes! Remember to check your tire pressure very often because that's what every manufacture recommended on the Manual.

    My Mobile video to Sonatav:

    What about adding a navigation system to what you've installed?
    I don't really need navigation system because you can get direction through the website. However, I might consider getting it in the future when the system is more advance. Most of the navigation system now-a-day is not that advance yet. For instance: Alpine have more direction data in their system but they don't really have voice recognition system. Pioneer have less direction data but have voice recognition system. I am sure there are more system out there but not as popular as Alpine and Pioneer. Basically I can add any of these system to my existing system running between $1000-$1500.

    My owners manual says the following: Not to exceed 55mph for the first 1200 miles. (I'll probably extend that rule to 3000 miles to be safe at not much hardship.) Also, keep engine speeds between 2000-4000rpm. Use moderate acceleration, don't start quickly or extend the accelerator pedal fully. For the first 200 miles, avoid hard stops (I'll extend this rule also to first 3000 miles to be safe). Don't lug the engine--drive at too low a speed in a high gear that the engine bucks---instead shift to a lower gear. Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time. (From other readings on the subject its wise to let your foot off the accelerator if you've been cruising on the highway for 20 min., then slow down below 35 mph but make sure no one's behind you and then accelerate. Additional advice from other readings is don't change your oil to synthetic before 7500 miles since some synthetics are so slick that valves may not seat properly with synthetics in the break-in. Best of luck!

    What some are referring to as a skid plate' is indeed a plastic splash shield under the front of the engine compartment.

    It is attached by a dozen or so bolts, and is one of the few quirks that could use a design change. This splash shield collects motor oil in an inaccessible crevice during an oil change, and then lets it drip out over time.

    While there is a thin sheetmetal piece joing the two (plastic) halves together, I doubt that this would qualify as a true 'skid plate' as it would be damaged by anything denser than normal vegetation.

    I have taken this piece off to clean oil out of it, so I am familiar with it.

    There is a small removable access panel in this splash shield, held on by two 8mm. bolts, that gives access to the oil filter. I recall reading last year that the oldest SF's did not seem to have this oil filter access panel, which means removing a whole lot of bolts to drop this shield for an oil change. Perhaps someone with one of the original SF's can comment on this.

    What this panel does do, is to keep road salt and other moisture and debris from splashing up in the low-mounted alternator and other engine components.

    Last comment, I wound up having to glue the metal retainer clips (that retain the oil filter access panel 8 mm. bolts) to the splash shield, because they kept falling off during oil changes.

    While I'm sure it does help in preventing splash backs, doesn't it prevent proper drainage from substances entering from the TOP of the vehicle? Such as a heavy downpour coming in under the hood, or a fluid leak? Couldn't you be leaking small amounts of one of your fluids & not realize this because the plate is retaining it? OR... if you spill oil during an oil change, won't it pool up on this thing? And then eventually leak out & make you think you have an oil leak? Basically... does it do more harm than good??

    I want to know where this thing comes out, because I'm sure debris can collect at the OPENING of it, as well as in the filter in the other end. ALSO, I don't like all the convolutions of the hose. I'd like to see where it comes out, and if there is a way to run a hose straight to it for better airflow. Plus, I'm just curious :-)

    Oh Well! I guess I have to change the title of the Vehicle Skid Plate to Engine Splash Guard. The intake tube sound very interesting too! I will play with this later when I have time. Getting to learn more and more.

    Ok..here we go on the Hyundai woodkit. I called Tischer Hyundai and asked about the kit. They told me they had a global "hold" on the item, that was from their distribution center. They also told me it was 3 pieces. So..off I go to call Hyundai to see what is the problem. According to Tischer, they were told of a possible defect in the piece. So when I askjed HMA about it, they had no idea of what I was talking about.
    The had 20 of them in stock at HMA and that it was 5 pieces. The rep I talked to went and spoke with an accessory specialists, and confirmed it is 5 pieces. ALL the doors have a piece and then the center console. I read the rep the accessory code #, and again..he confirmed it was 5 pieces.
    So I called one of my local dealers, and they can get it for me in a few days. NO HOLD on them listed.
    So ..I went and orderd it and the fog light kit. total was $275.00 I got the Hyundai one due to the fact if I goof on install of the glue kits or it is a defect, then I am screwed and have to replace the car part that has the thing glued to it.
    I will post before and after pics of the kit as well as fog light kit for those who may wish to view it. My dealer had not sold or seen one so they wanna look at it too.
    I wonder why Tischer has problems getting them. ALSO..Tischer has some bugs in their website. Seems their shipping fees are a flat $20.00 on orders below $250.00. I wanted to order parts from them, and wanted to pay the $8.95 shipping, but their software wont let you do that, yet they have it listed. SO BE WARNED WHEN YOU ORDER!!
    As to the intake tube. I read on one safty campaign website that they had a fix done on that tube. Seems like water was getting into it.
    ALSO..my dealer rep told me a SFe he was drivign for a problem check had the AC cut off on him as well as the client. After 1 month of the car being at dealership, they discoverd the thermostat has an automatic cut off so as not to over heat. So ..if you drive alot and all of the sundden your AC cuts off, its a safety feature buillt into it.

    I just received the dash kits from edash.com, it is beautifully made wood grain kit (completed with 30 pieces - worth the long wait!!! I'm gonna to install right now & will post pictures right after finish.) See U guys tonite!.........

    Another exciting thing will also post tonight after I finish my dash kits installation! Very exciting thing, something must see!...... Guess what.....Hmm.....No......Not now....be patient.... OK..... give u a clue.......

    something might cause Forester & Ford-tri-scape guys sudden heart attack when they saw it!

    I doubt what the dealer told you about the air conditioning cutting out if you ran it too long.
    I drove my Santa fe to Virginia (800 mile trip)and the ac ran for a good 10 hours and worked beautifully. I believe the Santa Fe in question had a problem with his AC that caused it to overheat.

    I live in Florida and use my AC every day and have never had a problem.

    The dealer told me it was the thermostat that was bad. Seems that it has a sensor, that if it goes out due to not working, the AC will cut off to prevent problems. NOT that it cuts off if working correctly. Kinda a safety thing like this..when I am not working right..I will prevent others from breaking" Am I making sense now? So they replaced the bad thermostat, the AC runs all the time, so if you have a thermostat go bad, the AC will shut off, to prevent it from getting damaged. WHEEWWW>.sorry for the confusion.

    Yes, I also find out there are some missing pieces, the kits can further cover more areas inside the SF.

    But the 30 pieces for me, is not too bad! My wife at first said I will waste the money, but when she saw the pieces she also said it was very nice.

    Hung! Please do not feel too upset for those minority's comments in the Subaru+Ford+Hyundai Forum, It is so easy to tell those guys belonged to the huge "Salesman Groups" of Ford+Mazda+Subaru, they just worried we will make them have a hard time to earn commissions.
    Can not blame them. It is human nature......

    I think the solution is just ignore them, as long as we post in a civil way (opposite to what they did), I don't think Edmund's will dare to kick us out. I still consider the majority readers are still happy with us, as I've received a lot of E-mails thank you for my shareing of the SF expeirences....Quite different to what the anti-Hung&Bill group said we are B.S.!

    You don't have to answer their stupid questions every time. We are almost the only voices for the SF in that forum, most of the past SF supporters already gave up argueing with them & mostly left.

    If we shut up forever, I think "Hyundai's SF" have to be removed from the "Subaru's Forester + Ford's Triscape + Hyundai's SF Forum" which is what they want!

    Hello to everybody!!
    This is my first time to post on the oversea board . My English maybe not good enough but I will try my best I can. I am reading this board for about several weeks, because I well like to buy a SUV, so I need every information from this board. The Santa Fe give me a great of interesting toward this vehicle, but the warranty well be the biggest problem in my country. They change the factory very frequently and the warranty only 2 years 5km, I am watching over Escape 3.0 and Santa Fe 2.7, but the Escape (US$39000) is much expansive then Santa Fe (US$33000).We have heavy taxes for the vehicle from other country about 30%. The Ford is a biggest and better services company in our country due to they product their own cars, but the Hyundai they don’t have a manufactory just only a factory . So I need your suggestion that dose the Santa Fe is good enough to buy. The Escape interior quality seen not good enough for such price. Santa Fe well be sale in Jun.

    Although I have few problems with my SF, I think SF is a great car to drive. But in your case, only 2 years 5km warranty is ridiculous to me. I won't buy any car with that warranty. It is too risky. I'd really think about.

    I also have a question for someone who have changed the engine oil/filter themselves I want to do it myself too. But I have a hard time to find out what kind of filter SF is using. Any input would be really appreciated.

Both car are good but Santa Fe is a little more safer than Escape while Escape is more powerful than Santa Fe. Santa Fe is cheaper and save gas better than Escape. So you really have to decide and that's all I can help right now. Whoop! I forgot to mention about insurance. Did you check the car insurance for these 2 cars yet?

    In our country the buyer always play the tender weakness than the company We have no "Lemon low" to protect us, every thing beneficial is toward the factory. Every vehicle product in our own country has 3 years 6km warranty , 2 year 5km for other country even the BOW, Lexus.. We can not "buy" any extended warranty in here and we did not hear that thing before. The company recall always had done it privacy not in the open way. I just hope can find a car with fewer problems as possible. So I need your experience to chose one, because those two vehicles in your market are about one year.
    I am glad to write to this board, it can get a lot of news from there and practice my typing.

    I just wanted to take a moment, to thank ALL of you on this message board, for the valuable information you have provided me in my quest for a Santa Fe. After 4 months, numerous dealerships charging $2-$3000, over sticker, and countless hours of research, I am finally proud to report.... I picked up my black Santa Fe GLS, yesterday afternoon, May 18th! Thanks to all of you, I was more confident, and better informed than a man could possibly be, throughout the entire process. THANK YOU! I will keep reading this board, and post from time to time, if I find something that has not already been posted. If you will excuse me..... I'm going out to sit in my Santa Fe!!!!!! PS Has anyone gotten sick of hearing " That's a Hyundai?!" yet? I've only had mine a little over 12 hours, and it's happened twice already! PSS A side note to HUNG, I love the rear bumper lights, but I cast my vote to remove the word stop.

    Well..I just completed the transformation of the bumper reflectors into working tail lights. Was really easy and cost a whopping $16.89 in parts. Took me about an hour to do both of them together. So, we will see what kinda reactions I get now and wonder if people will really think of stopping sooner. A fun project and a big thanks to Ken Cooper for the info. I was able to make my lamp sockets fit snug with no electrical tape need to hold them in place, so its just as if it was a factory light. I will post pics when I get my wooddash in and foglight kit installed as well. Should be in the middle of next week.

    Walmart sells oil filters for the Santa Fe and they cost about $2 very reasonable. The oil change and filter change is extremely easy to do.

    WOW..the bumpers be glowing and stopping people in their tracks !! Bill..the dash kit I got is not actually a kit per say, I went ahead and got the "offical" Hyundai wood trim kit. The one you see in the accessory catalogs. I have called HMA..and they told me the kit is 4 pieces, the 4 doors and the entire center console, even the hump. According to HMA..it will be a solid piece that will totally replace the dark grey console. It is not a glue on or overlay, its solid. Note..its not wood, but has look of wood. They dont show the doors in catalog but from what HMA told me, its the dark grey on that as well. So we will see in a few days. I also orderd the fog light kit. Total on the two was $275.00 (including tax, and the dealership gave me 15% off both parts, so kinda saved a few bucks. Stay tuned !
