This is your best source for "ACCURATE" information as to what the engineers who designed that car think you should do to properly break-it in.
Guy
I guess I have the engine splash guard too since my car is the "top model". Not sure exactly splash guard look like or refer too! I never really care about this thing at all I guess I should take a carefully look at this.
Keithatwork and Kjsiegles:
That's so funny about the odometer and miles! Kjsiegels! We are just doing a good sense of humor here! Don't worry much about it.
Mikel12:
Do not worry to much about driving condition for the Break-in! The manual said you don't have to drive slow for the break-in. Just simply accelerate and brake slow at each time you drive. When I first got my car I drove 75mph but I accelerate slowly and plus brake slowly too.
Billbo1970:
Not sure exactly why you want to know about the exhaust intake? However, I will take a good look at it when I have time. I think it is good idea to learn more about the Santa Fe in case we need to do something with it in the future.
It is useful also when going through flooded streets to keep from stalling the engine.
2WD Santa Fe's can order this plate and bolt it on, the bolt holes are in place, and it is easy to connect.
I mean, 100000 miles on the odometer is 97826 in reality when you know that 18.4 is in reality 18 miles (to calculate, divide 100000 by 18.4 and multiply by 18)!
what i did was divide 100000 by 18 and then multiply that number by the answer which was something like 2222.2222222222222222
by .4 and subtract that number from 100000.
i will stick to web design and let the brainiacs do the math.
TIRE PRESSURE (IMPORTANT)
i know we have had recommended tire pressure on the list before but what i dont remember seeing (becase i would have checked) was the fact that these santa fe's are coming from the factory with up to 45 psi in the tires.
i was doing an oil change and thinking about rotating the tires while i had it up on the lift when i checked the tire pressure. every tire was a whopping 42 psi!!!!
that seemed pretty odd to me until i read on the net yesterday that toyotas are getting shipped from the factory with 40psi and it is up to the dealer during prep to adjust the tire pressure to correct levels. i suggest people just check thier tires and dont forget the spare.
i have mine back down to the normal psi with no noticeable sacrifice in ride. gas mileabge might be another thing. haha.

Splash Guard:
According to Irchome said the splah guard seem to be the front vehicle skid plate as I have posted in my website. I thought it was something else!
Calculation:
That is a funny statement base on kcorcoran. I really like your sense of humor. Yes! Remember to check your tire pressure very often because that's what every manufacture recommended on the Manual.
My Mobile video to Sonatav:
1. A/V Head Unit + A/V Turner Unit + TV Turner&Antenna = $1900
2. 8 Discs Video CD changer = $500
3. DVD player = $750
4. 2 Headrest Screen + wireless headphone = $850
What about adding a navigation system to what you've installed?
I don't really need navigation system because you can get direction through the website. However, I might consider getting it in the future when the system is more advance. Most of the navigation system now-a-day is not that advance yet. For instance: Alpine have more direction data in their system but they don't really have voice recognition system. Pioneer have less direction data but have voice recognition system. I am sure there are more system out there but not as popular as Alpine and Pioneer. Basically I can add any of these system to my existing system running between $1000-$1500.
It is attached by a dozen or so bolts, and is one of the few quirks that could use a design change. This splash shield collects motor oil in an inaccessible crevice during an oil change, and then lets it drip out over time.
While there is a thin sheetmetal piece joing the two (plastic) halves together, I doubt that this would qualify as a true 'skid plate' as it would be damaged by anything denser than normal vegetation.
I have taken this piece off to clean oil out of it, so I am familiar with it.
There is a small removable access panel in this splash shield, held on by two 8mm. bolts, that gives access to the oil filter. I recall reading last year that the oldest SF's did not seem to have this oil filter access panel, which means removing a whole lot of bolts to drop this shield for an oil change. Perhaps someone with one of the original SF's can comment on this.
What this panel does do, is to keep road salt and other moisture and debris from splashing up in the low-mounted alternator and other engine components.
Last comment, I wound up having to glue the metal retainer clips (that retain the oil filter access panel 8 mm. bolts) to the splash shield, because they kept falling off during oil changes.
The had 20 of them in stock at HMA and that it was 5 pieces. The rep I talked to went and spoke with an accessory specialists, and confirmed it is 5 pieces. ALL the doors have a piece and then the center console. I read the rep the accessory code #, and again..he confirmed it was 5 pieces.
So I called one of my local dealers, and they can get it for me in a few days. NO HOLD on them listed.
So ..I went and orderd it and the fog light kit. total was $275.00 I got the Hyundai one due to the fact if I goof on install of the glue kits or it is a defect, then I am screwed and have to replace the car part that has the thing glued to it.
I will post before and after pics of the kit as well as fog light kit for those who may wish to view it. My dealer had not sold or seen one so they wanna look at it too.
I wonder why Tischer has problems getting them. ALSO..Tischer has some bugs in their website. Seems their shipping fees are a flat $20.00 on orders below $250.00. I wanted to order parts from them, and wanted to pay the $8.95 shipping, but their software wont let you do that, yet they have it listed. SO BE WARNED WHEN YOU ORDER!!
As to the intake tube. I read on one safty campaign website that they had a fix done on that tube. Seems like water was getting into it.
ALSO..my dealer rep told me a SFe he was drivign for a problem check had the AC cut off on him as well as the client. After 1 month of the car being at dealership, they discoverd the thermostat has an automatic cut off so as not to over heat. So ..if you drive alot and all of the sundden your AC cuts off, its a safety feature buillt into it.
ANY recalls might be listed here: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/servicemmy.cfm
When and if you get a chance, please post some pics of your new upgrades and add-ons. That would be nice if you could share with us all here.
Wait!
Another exciting thing will also post tonight after I finish my dash kits installation! Very exciting thing, something must see!...... Guess what.....Hmm.....No......Not now....be patient.... OK..... give u a clue.......
something might cause Forester & Ford-tri-scape guys sudden heart attack when they saw it!
So please stay tune!
PS. edash.com seems to be a game website.
I drove my Santa fe to Virginia (800 mile trip)and the ac ran for a good 10 hours and worked beautifully. I believe the Santa Fe in question had a problem with his AC that caused it to overheat.
I live in Florida and use my AC every day and have never had a problem.
Plus u guys will see some surprising pictures.....!
Sorry! should be www.edashkit.com...

That is one great looking dash. I think I will order one myself. How long did it take to install all that and was it messy with the adhesive?
Thanks for posting the pictures!
Bill
Highly recommended. The real looks is much better than what u see in my pictures.
"Look at the big rocks on the bottom of my SF, if I drove Forester, the bottom will all scratch!"
"There are water in the rocks, can you see? Actually, I'm driving in a little rock's stream."
"The SF 4 wheels system is very capable to handle all the big rocks, powerful enough to slowly went up the stream without much effort. I go up about 50 feet and turn back safety.... What an experiment!"

Wow! I really want to do that off-road thing too but I have to wait until July to go camping/fishing and December for the snow ski.
By the way about the wood dash: I hope you don't get to jealous when I get mine too because I have them customized for me 4 extra pieces.
To Everyone:
I would like to invite everyone to visit my site. I have 80% finished and still more to go. Please don't hesitate to give me any question and comment about my website. Have a great day!
My Website
Hung0820
But the 30 pieces for me, is not too bad! My wife at first said I will waste the money, but when she saw the pieces she also said it was very nice.
Hung! Please do not feel too upset for those minority's comments in the Subaru+Ford+Hyundai Forum, It is so easy to tell those guys belonged to the huge "Salesman Groups" of Ford+Mazda+Subaru, they just worried we will make them have a hard time to earn commissions.
Can not blame them. It is human nature......
I think the solution is just ignore them, as long as we post in a civil way (opposite to what they did), I don't think Edmund's will dare to kick us out. I still consider the majority readers are still happy with us, as I've received a lot of E-mails thank you for my shareing of the SF expeirences....Quite different to what the anti-Hung&Bill group said we are B.S.!
You don't have to answer their stupid questions every time. We are almost the only voices for the SF in that forum, most of the past SF supporters already gave up argueing with them & mostly left.
If we shut up forever, I think "Hyundai's SF" have to be removed from the "Subaru's Forester + Ford's Triscape + Hyundai's SF Forum" which is what they want!
Thank you very much for your compliment. Just want to let you know that I have never been made that's why I still can continue to write. I like the way you show the pictures and give you a thumb up. Don't worry to much about me because I really have a good sense of humor. Actually I like to help my enemies more than friends.
Drew: What is comment about the Sub-F, Ford-Tris, and the Hyundai-SF forum? Have you ever considered to removed it? What do you think?
Hope other SF owners also find this dash product helpful!
This is my first time to post on the oversea board . My English maybe not good enough but I will try my best I can. I am reading this board for about several weeks, because I well like to buy a SUV, so I need every information from this board. The Santa Fe give me a great of interesting toward this vehicle, but the warranty well be the biggest problem in my country. They change the factory very frequently and the warranty only 2 years 5km, I am watching over Escape 3.0 and Santa Fe 2.7, but the Escape (US$39000) is much expansive then Santa Fe (US$33000).We have heavy taxes for the vehicle from other country about 30%. The Ford is a biggest and better services company in our country due to they product their own cars, but the Hyundai they don’t have a manufactory just only a factory . So I need your suggestion that dose the Santa Fe is good enough to buy. The Escape interior quality seen not good enough for such price. Santa Fe well be sale in Jun.
Thank for your help !
Po-Wen from Taiwan
Although I have few problems with my SF, I think SF is a great car to drive. But in your case, only 2 years 5km warranty is ridiculous to me. I won't buy any car with that warranty. It is too risky. I'd really think about.
I also have a question for someone who have changed the engine oil/filter themselves I want to do it myself too. But I have a hard time to find out what kind of filter SF is using. Any input would be really appreciated.
I was just wondering if you can buy extended warranty for both company? You have to make an intelligent choice here! Which is more important to you the warranty or the money? Both car are good but Santa Fe is a little more safer than Escape while Escape is more powerful than Santa Fe. Santa Fe is cheaper and save gas better than Escape. So you really have to decide and that's all I can help right now. Whoop! I forgot to mention about insurance. Did you check the car insurance for these 2 cars yet?
Kwokkei:
I recommended use the OEM type of oil filter and you can purchase from any dealer-part dept.
In our country the buyer always play the tender weakness than the company We have no "Lemon low" to protect us, every thing beneficial is toward the factory. Every vehicle product in our own country has 3 years 6km warranty , 2 year 5km for other country even the BOW, Lexus.. We can not "buy" any extended warranty in here and we did not hear that thing before. The company recall always had done it privacy not in the open way. I just hope can find a car with fewer problems as possible. So I need your experience to chose one, because those two vehicles in your market are about one year.
I am glad to write to this board, it can get a lot of news from there and practice my typing.
I just wanted to take a moment, to thank ALL of you on this message board, for the valuable information you have provided me in my quest for a Santa Fe. After 4 months, numerous dealerships charging $2-$3000, over sticker, and countless hours of research, I am finally proud to report.... I picked up my black Santa Fe GLS, yesterday afternoon, May 18th! Thanks to all of you, I was more confident, and better informed than a man could possibly be, throughout the entire process. THANK YOU! I will keep reading this board, and post from time to time, if I find something that has not already been posted. If you will excuse me..... I'm going out to sit in my Santa Fe!!!!!! PS Has anyone gotten sick of hearing " That's a Hyundai?!" yet? I've only had mine a little over 12 hours, and it's happened twice already! PSS A side note to HUNG, I love the rear bumper lights, but I cast my vote to remove the word stop.
For your wooddash, is it from also from edashkit.com? What kind of wooddash have you ordered? Is it different to the RBW color that I've installed?
"DETROIT; Hyundai, not long ago maligned for shoddy quality, just bested Honda, Toyota, Jeep and anyone else with a compact sport-utility vehicle in one of the industry's leading measures of customer satisfaction.
And those kudos come just after its Santa Fe SUV outmuscled a slightly larger group of contenders in front-crash ratings at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)."

I vote 9.

"And that's the sum of Santa Fe. As a small SUV, it is, on balance, marvelous. As a statement about how far the Korean auto industry has come, and how big a threat it presents to established players, it is impossible to ignore or dismiss.
If payback is a testy, demanding lady, then Japan is about to feel her sting, as Detroit felt Japan's 25 years ago, leaving wounds from which Detroit never healed."
