Calling Los Angeles-based car shoppers: Have you recently traded in (or plan to trade in) a car with negative equity (i.e. the amount you owe on your auto loan is greater than the car's value)? A reporter would like to speak with you; please reach out to PR@Edmunds.com by 11/6 for details.

I put down a deposit on a 4x4 SR tacoma i am going to buy outright with "cash" with no dealer add ons at all almost two months ago, since then their prices have gone down and people in the midwest state I live in are getting invoice or closer, the deposit is non refundable. The purchase agreement is for MSRP+ doc fee. My truck was supposed to get delivered 1 1/2 weeks after I put the deposit down, I am trying to see if I have any leverage since the truck is 4x late what I was told and still sitting in mexico at the shipping yard as we speak and hasnt moved in a month and half, I want this specific truck but prices have came down considerably locally. Do I have any options? i am thinking about eating the deposit and just going with a different truck but that would be my last choice. thanks.

But, put the shoe on the other foot - how would you feel if the dealer came to you and said "Hey, Mr. PanzerDivisionMe, inventory is getting scarce and we want to charge you another $1500 for the privilege of selling you this exact truck you want"?
Either do the original deal at MSRP, or eat the deposit and start over.
