invoice (or $1000 above "dealer" invoice; fyi TDA $250 is part of the dealer invoice). Of course, I had to buy some other options installedby either GST or dealer; e.g. running board, upgrade mirror, etching&decoration, ...It does not have VSC or BE. At the end, I had to pay some $395 for PDM? that I was not aware of and $50 Doc fee. The only plus I got was that they gave me $1000 more for my trade-in compared with another dealer's final offer (same price for HL but $1000 less on trade-in). I was tired and wary at the end of the day after spending 4 hours at the dealer so I think I just got a reasonable deal... not the best one if I am willing to wait for awhile....p.s. McCall is where I bought it from. Try to contact the Internet sales Dept.
gwkiser: Let me know when your beautiful Bluestone Ltd. arrives and how you like the leather. I've decided to go for the gray but will probably be waiting at least 4 more weeks for my silver HL. At least I hope it's only 4!
jdlaw2: How much extra were they going to charge? I was quoted the invoice price of $812 for PIO gray leather which I think is reasonable. Also, I've never seen any, factory or otherwise, that wasn't perforated. I must say I'm surprised at how the different regions vary their options so much. Anyhow, I think the black/ivory combination you've ordered looks terrific!
If anyone else has or has seen the gray leather, I'd appreciate all responses! Thanks

There are hitches available from Hidden Hitch, Dalan, and DrawTite for the HL
Steve
I assume without any options. Does anybody know whether basic v6 HL is available in the US dealer, especially midwest area ?
I checked few dealer an they only told me to order it. I am not so sure my old car will compromise to wait for that long - by the way I live in Michigan.
Maybe dianne4toyota knows about it ?
I really liked HL but for the price + options that I have to pay I may switch to 4runner for lower price and last longer reputation also included traction control (equal to vsc in HL ??)
So if I can cut down the options, it will closer to my budget.
Any suggestion ??
Even more interesting is that 4x4 in both 4 and 6 cylinders are listed as Limiteds although you still need to order the limited package.

Highlander tool kit = misprint. It happens.
I can't comment on "PORT installed leather" because we don't do that here in SoCal. I read somewhere that Toyota guard and other things were discussed, and thankfully, it's not in Socal either. We get our cars pure here, free from the "snake oil" products that are deemed unneccesary!
Bluestone... what can I say. It's pretty, it's unusual, and scarce. Perhaps they will dial UP the production of that color. Til then, the request for bluestone's far beyond their production. Annekup here told me a few weeks back that she really wanted a bluestone, and I was able to obtain one for her, as well as another Edmunds buyer who wanted a non-Limited. Patience may be the key to that color. And, don't be surprised if dealers want more $ for them, or even if they agree to what appears to be typical deals, take deposits to "find" one or locate one. That's how a lot of stores operate. I dunno, and it's probably personal preference, but I won't take anyone's money til I have a car for them myself... coming to us, that isn't a pie in the sky. Before leaving a dealership a check, leave it on a car that exists for them, not a promise of a car. I say this kindly, and not in a scolding manner. I have a hard time taking anyone's check for a "possible" car. Makes no sense to me. I just don't do it. I believe that dealers do that to feel as if you are thus "off the market" after writing that check, because you are waiting for them to call you and tell you they have it (eventually) and why is a check needed for that? Shouldn't they get it anyway, because you want it?
Just food for thought.

We decided to go with the Indigo Blue instead

I have to clarify things: the good stuff, like the bluestones or the and Spyders... what's to fear about a sale cancelling? Means it's available to someone else now. Now, order-built trucks, ie. unusual built-to-spec units for folks, yes, I take deposits. But, in this state, I can't keep a deposit when someone cancels so it's sorta silly to insist on a check. I think it's a personal thing to go with one's gut. I am always rappin' with folks in email and a big red flag for me in conversation is how many times they request to know about how refundable the deposit it... I'd rather not take any car off the market for a "maybe" because I quote cars to many folks. I mark a car sold, and folks are disappointed, perhaps talked into different cars at higher prices by spouses or other dealers, and then their first choice original car breaks free because my "sold" was a "sorta sold" only I didn't know that... and then it makes folks mad at me because they assume I was trying to get out of selling the car so cheaply before it hit ground. Capische? In small stores, the mentality is still "old school" with managers saying: "where's the deposit... can't get a car without the deposit." Like I said, it's food for thought. The car world according to Dianne at my store with my inventory, I guess. I just believe my people when they say they want a car. And, true to my experiences, when deposits don't come as agreed upon, the buyers often weren't set on cars. The faster a deposit arrives, the more serious I know my buyer is when I feel the need to request one. I am certain there are enough of my clients reading the boards to know that I have even, when a car was close to arrival and they are far away, insisted they NOT send a deposit. A check in the mail doesn't mean you have a vehicle sold for sure for sure for sure. It means you have a check mailed, and now you're holding it til the car lands properly and as agreed. Lots of sentences to just say that I take my people's word for it that they want the car/truck/whatever unless, as I said, conversation rolls heavily to the "what if I cancel" issue.

but she had the Silver coming in with a console and other options I wanted....she held it for me
and I am happy that I did not wait for the Bluestone......also...the resale value on silver may be higher than Bluestone.....I sold my 96 silver 4runner to a private party and got low blue book.....
Stereo Quailty: I have the JBL 6 disc and I think the sound is good, but not great. The stock system in my Camry was great. I plan on upgrading with a 5 channel amp and a pair of subs in the back.
I LOVE MY HL!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for shouting)
To rfhou: congrats on the HL! Amp & subs are on my list too!

to see pictures of various color HLs (all cars for that matter). Nice, big pixs, but I don't know how accurate they are, colorwise.

As for the mileage, I too got exactly 20mpg on my first measured tankful (4 cyl.), with good mix of city/hwy driving. If that doesn't dramatically improve as the engine breaks in, I will be one very unhappy camper.
Did my first oil change on my new HL today at 530 miles. Since no manufacturers (that I know of) use break-in oil these days, I'm a firm believer of early first oil changes to get any manufacturing chemicals and/or crud out of the engine.
I was able to slide under the vehicle with no problem, and some of my shirts are 3X, so less "powerful" (read: normal size) people should have lots of room! The oil pan takes a 14mm wrench, and is a snap to get to. The oil filter is a little tougher. If you use a cup type wrench (small size), with a 3" extension, you should be able to get at it from the top. Unfortunately, once it's loose, there is not enough room between the engine and fan housing to bring it up and outta' there. I only had a strap type small filter wrench, so it made things a little more difficult. I was, however, able to do it all from underneath without making too much of a mess. There is a plastic shield that runs sideways under the radiator. Just to scope it out after the job was done, I removed its 2 push type fasteners & ~8 bolts using a 10mm (I think) socket, and it came right down. This opened everything up. A little bit of a pain, but less stretching required, and easier to keep thing clean. An option , if you wanna take it. The engine has a drip piece under the filter, but it could be a little longer to avoid a mess.
I've been changing oil on cars for over 30 years. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the hardest/messiest, I rate this one a 5, only because the oil gets on other things besides the drain pan.

We are picking up our HL tomorrow and have every option except for the center console. The sales manager told me that the console is on "hold" and should be available in the near future. I called the Toyota assisantance center and they told me the console will not be available until the next model year(due to emissions issues---yeah right). Could you check to see if the is orderable or not. We really need the Ck.
Thanks, Andre
Just picked up the vehicle last Friday. Really glad that we were able to get the Bluestone - it's a very nice color.
No matter what color you go with, you'll probably end up liking it once it's yours.
I do wish that Toyota would have been a bit more creative with the colors though. They're all a bit boring to me, especially considering that there is nothing else on the body for a contrast - just one big color. At least the Rav & 4runner have bumpers, wheel wells, etc that have some contrasting color. Maybe there will be after market flared wheel wells, or something. Then again it might look dumb on this body style.
OK - regardless of all my nitpicking on colors, it didn't stop me from buying it. IMHO, it's the best suv out there for my needs & wants. Just impatiently waiting for mine to be delivered.
My research led me to seek Michelin SUV Cross Terrain tires. They list for $139. I've also traded in the OEM tires and normally pay $25-35 per tire in difference (which includes mount/balance/road hazard). I haven't located a Michelin tire dealer that will accept this tire size in trade.
The reason appears to be that this is a new tire size so their demand is nonexistent for the next few years. One dealer is contacting other dealers and will offer me a trade if he can pre-sell my tires.
Why do I want the Michelin tire? Research on-line tire sales and the Michelin site. Consumer surveys rate our Dueler H/T tires as average. The consumer surveys rate the Bridgestone H/L much higher in all aspects and Michelin ALWAYS receives high ratings.

I'll have them installed next Friday due to my out of town business requirements. I'll evaluate and post what I find, but The Tire rack is a great site for consumer feedback.
The door sticker recommends 30psi which I believe is under inflation and concerned me for two reasons. First, I just traded an Explorer which was suppose to have 26psi (although I kept them at 29psi). Second, Bridgestone owns/manages Firestone. I won't tempt fate, twice.
Happy motoring!
Thanks.
For those of you looking to add accessories to your HL, Gulf States Toyota is putting running bars on some of the HL's as a port installed option. They look pretty good, although I didn't get mine with them... will probably add later. Just wanted to let everyone know they're out there.
I also have the perforated gray leather which I like. It tends to not be as hot in the summer for those of us who live on the gulf coast.
All manufacturers look at a number is issues when putting a tire pressure suggestion on the door and in the manual. They look at the overall engineering of the vehicle and the characteristics of the tires. Safety, comfort, economy, alignment, tire wear are all taken into account. By putting more air than the manufacturer reccomends, you alter that balance and there may be no reason for it.
Someone posted that they "exchanged" the stock tires for Michelins at a tire dealer and paid a difference. Is this common?
Thanks for the help, all.
From my understanding, you should have the exact interior on your silver one as I have on my black one. Congrats on your purchase, I'd be happy to answer any more questions since I know GST does things a little differently, including the option packages they offer.
Just curious. I am planning to purchase a HL limited in the future and was just curious how Toyota had set this up.
