I agree jae5- most people I've seen who have started feeling this economic crunch are welcoming the lower fuel costs, but not because they seem to be going back to old driving OR shopping habits. Mostly just because it makes it a bit less tight come bill paying time. The rest of most folks' living expenses haven't gone down a bit for the fuel costs yet, so this is just a place where they can get a few more dollars to apply elsewhere.

As always, we here in western NC seem to pay at least 20 to 40 cents more than much of the rest of the country. On Tuesday I paid $2.77 at a new Ingles gas station in Black Mountain NC. The Monday evening news reported that the place I usually buy at was at the same price, (Sam's Club, Asheville), so since the Ingles was on my route while the Sam's is about 4 miles round trip out of the way.. I don't know what prices are at as of today, but some of the more expensive stations nearer to home (in Old Fort, NC) are at $2.79 now, so I expect both the Ingles and Sam's are even lower than what I paid Tuesday.

in certain parts of Maryland, mainly up near the Delaware border. Locally, I see the Costco in Beltsville has it for $2.45, but I think they only take cash, debit, or AmEx...no Visa/Mastercard.

It's about 6.5 miles from work, in the opposite direction from my house. That's about 40-50 cents per gallon cheaper than stations right around here, but I dunno if it's enough to entice me out there.

...by a tenth of a cent: saw Sunoco Ultra in the Philadelphia suburb of Rockledge at $2.999 last night. RUG = $2.62.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,672
The price has gone to $2.29 at some stations. Many are $2.3X.

That means premium is $2.49 or low $2.50s at stations.

    Amazing. Come on $2.00

I can hardly keep up with these prices since they are dropping so fast. In the York area, gas took another tumble: $2.49 - $2.65. Unfortunately some outlying areas are still charging $2.69 and up.

    I can hardly keep up

Me neither. A Shell station is at $3.09 this morning and everyone else is $3.19 or a bit more. Looks like $2.99 could be here by next week.

USA Average price still $2.822 and falling:

Gasoline prices fell another 3.6 cents overnight, to a national average of $2.822 a gallon, according to a survey of credit-card activity by motorist group AAA. It was the 36th consecutive day that prices have decreased. During that time, prices have fallen by over $1 a gallon.

Phoenix is at $2.74 for the lowest
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
We feel the same here in Chi-town in terms of the fuel prices, lower prices always lag in the city. Where I live at now the price is in the $2.83 range, while at my job it's $3.10 on average (was $3.15 yesterday). The city is still in the $3.30 to $3.70 range depending on what part of town you're in.

I guess to make myself "feel" richer, I can go to the Meijers and buy about 35 packs of Ramen Noodles (with those High-Blood-Pressure-Inducing flavored salt packets) with the $5 I saved on my fillup. :P

RUG here is $2.06 today. Wish I would've waited a day to fill up. It was $2.21 yesterday. I can afford gas now, but it looks like I'll have to work until I'm 80 with the big hit I took on my 401K. At least I'll be able to drive to work. :shades:

Saw my first under $2.59 here at teh Jersey shore today. A tenth of a cent under but it's getting there.

Well, I hope the price continues to drop in your area. We're lucky here in Texas in that respect. Funny, though, big oil is STILL making a killing. :lemon:
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Pardon me - that was supposed to be under $2.50. I paid $2.57 on Tuesday and it's dropped since then.

That's the killer - they're still making money like mad. If they can make money with gas $2 a gallon or less that's fine.

...on Rising Sun Avenue and Longshore in NE Philly:

    Regular = $2.61
    Plus = $2.86
    Ultra = $2.98

Philadelphia city prices tend to be less than the suburbs.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Not as low as Texas, Ohio, New Jersey, or some other areas, but I'll take it:

$2.59 for RUG, and most places are back to the 10-cent spread between grades.

Today our ethanol/gas is ranging from 2.06 to 2.09----yea !!!! I am wondering just how low it will be going---have heard that oil production will be slowing down so maybe the prices will go up again? How much I wonder?
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,672
Dayton, now at $2.21 at lowest stations. Lots are $2.2X and $2.3X. Columbus shows lots of upper $2.2X and $2.30.

    Come on $2.00.

OPEC production reduction has oil lower by $3 last I saw this morning.

Got here in two days - most places are at $2.99 RUG today.

    Diesel is $3.65.
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
RUG at $1.95 at our local Wally World today. Take that, OPEC.

Wouldn't mind trading for a Challenger or something fun to drive for a while, but kind of think gas prices will go back up in the near future. Don't want to put myself in that position--again. But still . . . .
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
at the Wawa. I was out running some errands that took me out that way, and I made sure to take advantage of it! Closer to home, it's still around $2.75-2.80.

I also saw $2.479 at another station that I've never heard of...Osprey.
  • sylviaesylviae Member Posts: 31
Is there any state that has ethanol/gas less than $2 ???? I think ours will be down to that this next week----we are now at 2.03 and 2.04 with 100% gas @ 2.29 ----
Does anyone feel like predicting these prices over the next month??? I top my tank off every three days!!!!
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,723
station i go by just about every day that went up 6 cents the other day to $2.959 is now at $2.799.

some areas of Maryland (mainly up in the NE, near Delaware) are down to $2.17/gal, so I could see some parts of the state dropping below $2.00/gal soon. However, some areas, like the high-priced areas north of DC, are as much as $3.49/gal!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Gas prices dip below $2 in some parts of Texas (Dallas News)

I thought I saw a story headlining $1.99 gas in New Jersey, but my browser crashed and I don't see the link now.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,672
We're getting close to $2.00 being available, but not universal around Dayton.
    This is a great sight:

    image

The $2.29 stores are BP and Shell with a McDonalds in it. The BP will go down to compete across the interstate but the Shell tends to stay up some because of interstate traffic and the McDonalds.

The van was getting low, so we went to the Albertsons grocery and filled it up. List price was $2.98 for RUG but they had a weekend dime off sale, so that knocked it down to $2.88. We put a bit over 15 gallons in and got away for under $50 bucks for a change.

I also saw a sign for diesel for $3.49 so it's come down another dime around here.

Did you notice that Needmore intersects with Payne? :shades:
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
Here in Texas RUG has been $1.94 for the past few days. I drove by my local filling station yesterday and there were cars all the way out in the street, waiting to fill up. It was crazy, never seen that here before. You'd think they were giving it away for free.
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,723
    needmore/payne. now that there's funny. :)
saw 2.619 locally today at what is usually one of the cheapest stations.

I would like to...but it would make larsb cry.

Oh go ahead make him cry like a baby. I know the lady that checked me out at the hotel in Seattle this morning was just ecstatic because she filled up at $2.72 per gallon. The local Costco here where I live is $2.61. I had to go back in the spreadsheet to 2/19/07 for gas that price.

Still seems suspicious being so close to election. I just cannot guess who it will help. No one likes the current President or the current Congress.

Wholesale gas is at $1.47. No reason that most of the country should not see $2 gas before Thanksgiving.

i thought about this too, but like you mentioned lower gas prices doesn't benefit anyone. Another possibility could be winter approaching in the northern part of the country. With oil at $140 per barrel, folks were looking at over twice the cost to fill their oil tanks here in PA. It's one thing ot pay an extra $10-$20 at the pump, another to have to pay an extra $750 to have your oil tank filled.

First time I ever witnessed gas dropping $0.10 in one day.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
3 stations in a row: BP, Kangaroo, and Chevron, all at $2.49 for RUG yesterday. Well, I figured I'd get the good stuff: Chevron (if that Top Tier designation means anything).
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I left San Diego a week ago and filled at Costco for $3.41, on week later it is $2.61. 80 cents in a week is unheard of. Diesel is at $2.89 here. It has not been that low in California since 2006.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,672
    >First time I ever witnessed gas dropping $0.10 in one day.

Come to Ohio. It's dropped $.20 in a day at certain stations. Maybe more. It's gone up $.40 in a day. The bouncing prices between stations is amazing; the big gains and losses usually correlated to political or weather events or mechanical problems like refinery or pipeline problems.

I filled up at one of the Needmore stations for $2.119 after $.10 grocery credit

I hope your right but, I'm not sure sub $2 is a given. Most places have 40 plus cents of tax added to that plus markup at the stores, not to mention the distribution costs. At some point the OPEC cutbacks, winter heating and holiday travel will push oil cost higher. RUG in Victoria,TX today was $2.25
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,672
    Oil could drop below $50

After being raped by the speculators and major supplier countries at $130 barrel which hurt our economy, now they get back to normal.

  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
You are correct that tax will be a determining factor for who gets $2 gas. With the wholesale price at $1.43 this morning the states that are not greedy like CA should all see gas under 2 bucks. CA has the highest gas tax at 60+ cents per gallon. Alaska has the lowest gas tax. Yet when I left their Saturday they were still getting about $3.50 per gallon. Most of the gas is shipped back up in empty tankers. Multiple hands to pass through and add their charges. Hawaii has even worse problem with all fuel being shipped in.

Phoenix is at $2.599 for the lowest.

According to AAA, gas won't hit $2 by T-Giving - maybe $2.50 by then:

"If trends continue, AAA National believes gas prices nationwide could be as low as $2.50 per gallon before Thanksgiving with the possibility that prices could be even lower by the end of the year," said Schimmer. "There could be an increase in discretionary driving because gasoline has fallen below $3 on a nationwide average basis."

Current AAA national average gas price as of Monday 10-27-08:

    $2.668

    The slower the better !!!

Looks like prices are beginning to stabilize here in North Central Texas; it's been $1.94 for the past three days at a few stations. Closer to $2.40 inside Fort Worth, though.

I can live with $1.95 RUG. :shades:
