You may get your wish as the 1.5 million barrel per day cut by OPEC seems to have slowed the drop in oil from about $4 a day to $1 a day.
The news today said the price of gas is now LOWER than it was before all this speculation bubble began last year. You got to love that on the personal level.
I just hope the next president will show some leadership in forming a SENSIBLE energy policy that will limit our dependence on foreign oil.

I got Tomatoes at 99 cents a pound today. Now when gas gets to $2 we can start rebuilding this mess the Congress has made for US. Personally I think that $65 oil is sustainable and PLENTY of profit for the Saudis and their partners in crime. Anyone that thinks it cannot go back to the bottom just does not understand the business. There are powers way above my pay scale running the show.
So many businesses raised prices due to higher fuel costs during the last 12 months that I wonder how many are giving a ebate instead of surcharge for fuel these days? 0%
Gasoline is $2.09 but I noticed the cheapest stations didn't seem to have the glut of cars waiting in line to get to the pumps; e.g., the demand for fuel isn't there like it was at a $3.59 station when the prices were typically $3.89. I expect our stations to go like Cincy northern suburbs did with $1.99 fuel.
Last Tuesday I filled at the same station I'd filled it at exactly a week before. it was 20 cents per gallon cheaper in a week. Well, today I filled at the same place and it was down another 18 cents to $2.39. I didn't go down Route 9 to find cheaper but I'm betting it's there. I saw off brands as cheap as $2.33.

Saw my first 2.29 today. It was for Delta whatevr that is. Best real brand was a $2.31 Sunoco.
Had the van at one point today. I pretty much only drive that when I need it so it doesn't go through a lo of gas. I'm betting that its next fillup will be a buck a gallon less than its last one.

was for $2.68 at the usual place, same as with the Meijers, BP and Citgo. The Shell was actually a couple of cents cheaper at $2.66 but the Mobil was holding steady at $2.72. Prices at work are roughly 10 ~ 15 cents more. Actually spent less than $30 on the fill-up, which I hadn't done in almost a year!! Please note that my fill-ups are based on filling up at a 1/4-tank, not empty. If empty I think my petrol purchase would have been in the $36 range, which still isn't too bad (crap, did I say that?!).
Checking my log, prices haven't been this low in over a year, when a fill-up on 12-Oct-07 was $2.70 and before that it hadn't been that low since a $2.56/gal fillup in April of '07.
One bad thing about this is more and more people are returning to their speed-demon ways - short memories indeed.
RUG down 8 cents to $2.53 Diesel dropped 13 cents since Monday. D2 is selling for $2.74. It is strange to be below the National Average. I guess we deserve it. :shades:
So, RUG fell again, but we're back to being in the top tier of high gas prices in the nation. I don't think that's what Shell has in mind when they promote their top tier gas. :P
I filled on Tuesday and gas was $2.60. Today it is $2.48. Diesel only dropped 8 cents to $2.71. Just in time. We are taking some family members up to San Bernardino tomorrow. With a little luck I will make it up and back on one tank. Hard to do with a short range gas rig. I hope that BMW is better at keeping their word than Honda on bringing diesels to America.
Paid $2.19 for RUG at the Exxon nearest to my home.
In Virginia Beach later that day, I saw $2.09 for RUG at Citgo and Wawa.
North of Virginia Beach, on the Eastern Shore (Delmarva Peninsula), most places were at $2.29. Today, a Valero where I'm staying dropped 5 cents to $2.24.
The last time I paid under $2 was in January '07 -- it's going to happen again very soon in VA.
This is the range of prices other than two outliers in the Dayton area. One station is at $2.37 and another at $2.69.
I paid $1.93 with a .10 reduction added to that for Kroger loyalty card use. $1.83. Absolutely amazing. The oil speculation market really took us for our money.
We really need to give Bush credit for bringing the gas prices down like he has. You may recall all the blaming placed on him and the administration as oil and gas prices rose.
Now it's time to give the praise to Bush and admin. The extra money in the pockets of people who were spending a fortune driving to and fro work can help the economy during the fall quarter here.
I know you're saying that tongue-in-cheek about Bush. He had nothing to do with the rise or the fall of gas prices. Looks like the bulk of the rise was due to speculation as you noted, and the fall was in no small part caused by Americans driving less because of the $4 gas prices. Even though India and China are rapidly "automobiling," we still consume the most oil, and even a small decline in US demand has a big effect.
I like the fact that we are now sticking it to OPEC.
imo, the real reason oil prices have dropped are related to the buyers having to actually having the capacity to take delivery of the oil. it's not just OPEC. we have valero and citgo gas which are supplied by venezuela.

>you're saying that tongue-in-cheek about Bush. He had nothing to do with the rise or the fall of gas prices.
As prices went up the pundits and partisans were ranting and railing that it was because of the current administration and blaming Bush. Now that prices have come back to reality (exactly as you said, because delivery is being taken rather than speculation), noone gives credit where they gave blame.
The other factor mentioned is that the dollar has increased in value relative to other currencies.
RUG here south of Fort Worth was $1.89 yesterday. I actually don't mind filling up now! :shades: My wife has a Kroger card, too. I'd go there, but it's out of my way.
in some parts of Maryland. I was out and about yesterday, and locally (Bowie, Glenn Dale, Riverdale areas) I think the cheapest I saw was around $2.40. Haven't left the house today though, so I dunno if any of the local prices have fallen further or not.
down here in baton rouge,la the cheapest gas is 2.39, but a gas station in gonzales this friday had a grand reopening from the damage of hurricane gustav and had gas at 1.99 a gallon!! they were lines every where! i didnt waist my time trying to go there. i see in other states its cheaper but down here thats cheap compare to 3.99 a gallon!
...shows Ultra at $2.68 - the lowest it's been in a l-o-n-g time. Saw Sunoco Regular at another station for $2.31. Seems the premium fuel price falls faster than the regular.
That was at the Albertsons grocery ($2.58 without an affinity card). I didn't drive by any other stations last night but RUG had dropped to $2.69 just after Halloween. So that's about twenty cents down in less than a week.
This was at a gas station with Shell colors, Citgo on the pumps, and "Gasgo" on the receipt. So I'm not sure what brand of RUG I bought, but the price was right.
I'm now seeing a couple places list 87 at $1.98, according to Marylandgasprices.com. Last night I was in Beltsville, MD, for a party, and saw a few places down to $2.27-2.30. The Costco in Beltsville is down to $2.09.
On my way in to work, the two local stations, a Shell and a Citgo, were still around $2.47-2.50, but I'm sure they'll drop soon. I have to run out to Beltsville again today, so I might fill up the car while I'm there.
