We still have a ways to go to catch "down" with the average, but we're at $1.93 now in Happy Valley

most stations 1.85-1.90. now that turkey day has passed, maybe the prices will decline again, after being level for the last week or so.

I'm hoping your theory is right. Boise is at $1.83 today and I'm running on fumes after traveling over to Oregon and camping out. Tomorrow I need to run a couple of errands and the fuel light is bound to go on.

The Valero station right on Interstate 8 bumped up to $2.29 from $1.99 on Friday. They are catching the 1000s of returning desert folks. Theirs is the first gas station after about 100 miles of Interstate. Only 10 more miles to several cheaper stations, including an ARCO selling at $1.85.

More and more gas stations have dropped their prices to $1.79 in the York area.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Looks like most stations are hanging at $1.83 but a few majors are down to $1.79. I went back to the Fred Meyers and filled up for $1.69 regular. The Outback got 28.4 mpg on the last tank too (was hoping for over 30 since the last tank was all easy highway).
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
That is probably about right if you are getting gas tainted with ethanol. I still think there is a big evaporation factor with that E10.
  • larsblarsb Member Posts: 8,204
Along I-10 and I-20 from Phoenix to Abilene TX, prices varied widely.

Saw as high as $2.29 and as low as $1.66.

Diesel was as low as $2.29 at one truck stop, and RUG was $1.95 at the same place - only a 34 cent difference.

I already saw one poster say, "I wish I still had my Tahoe."

That's not the way we ought to be thinking, people !!!

Glad to hear you had a safe trip over and back. Hope you had a nice visit and Thanksgiving. We been pushing Big 3 SUV sales while you were gone. :shades:

Thanks, the trip was uneventful and the stay was a lot of fun. My family is as dysfunctional as any other but we hide it well.

Gary says, "We been pushing Big 3 SUV sales while you were gone."

Saw that. Now cut it out !!!!! LOL :)

Can you use a SUV for a lawn mower?

I don't see why not. A few years back, I used my pickup truck to pull an old harrow out of the woods. At least I think that's what the thing is called. Big thing that you hook up behind a tractor to plow up a garden or field. Some of them have discs or spikes, but this one had these sickle-shaped things attached to it. It had been back there probably about 30 years, and it was too big to move by hand. I was about to break ground for my garage, and once that was built, it would have hemmed it in, and made it too hard to get anything back there big enough to pull it out.

So if I could use a truck to pull farming implements, I guess it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to attach a mower deck to an SUV. :P

Oh, I noticed the Shell station on my way in to work (Seabrook, Maryland) is down slightly from $1.879 to $1.859 for 87. Looking online, I see the Shell station up in Laurel I've gone to a few times is at $1.639. I paid $1.659 there on Thanksgiving Day.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Topped the Sequoia off yesterday at Costco. $1.69 per gallon.

Many ARCO stations are at $1.67. Diesel best price is $2.17, lagging far behind.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I can just see a soccer mom out in her RX400h mowing the lawn. You can't get anymore environmentally astute than using a hybrid to mow your lawn. Unless you have a push mower. If I was not so busy here on Edmund's, I would invent something like that. People will buy anything if marketed properly.

There used to be a small Jeep-like vehicle called the Crosley Farm-O-Road that came with it's own agricultural implements.

$1.87 this evening in Happy Valley to get us back to only 30 cents higher than Hummelstown
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
$1.65 at Sheetz and East Coast, $1.62 at BP. Gary, diesel is much higher here at $2.75. I suppose it has to do with the onset of cold weather and rising demand for heating oil.

Flowers don't bloom here in December like they do in Southern California!

Just planted a flat of pansies. They are our winter flowers. Don't do real well when it gets hot. Vincas do well year round in the shade. The roses are really blooming nice till we get a freeze.

Life is tough and gas is cheap. I still don't understand the diesel prices. Something we are not privy to.

We got held up at Thanksgiving time. ON Thursday the cheaper stations raised their price about 9 cents or more and we ended up in the mid 70s.

    But now.
I paid $1.34 affter a 10 cent discount at Krogers and I paid for it with a credit card giving 3% for gasoline purchases through a gift card setup at Krogers that gives a cut to a local charitable group in which we participate. So we're at least at $1.29.

Now when I hear comments on business channel on cable of $1.00 gasoline might happen, I dont' laugh.

I just think how much damage was caused to the auto industry by the ripoff of $4.00 gasoline from the financial folks. Bring on investigations.

...must be getting a hernia from pulling those numbers down and putting new ones up. Here in upstate NY it is down to $1.79 at one station with many in the $1.8x range for RUG.

The only thing that gets me worried with these price drops is that some one may be planning on taking away our "windfall savings". I don't know yet if it will be the government crooks, the eco-crooks, the oil company crooks, the speculator crooks or the OPEC crooks.

All I am sure about is that they can smell extra money in our pocket and will try their best to get at it.

Although you'll see $1.71 at some of the majors, like Chevron.

    $1.69 RUG
    $1.82 midgrade
    $1.92 premium

And diesel is coming in around $2.6x, almost a buck more than regular gas at most places.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
You are probably point on with that assumption. Obama dropped the idea of a windfall profit on the oil companies. So why not take advantage of the low gas prices to tax the consumer. Politicians are always looking for something to tax. They like taxing gas be it for your car or coming from your cow.

    $1.77 in State College

at the Costco in Glen Burnie, Maryland. That's the cheapest I've seen personally. Closer to home, the two gas stations that are on my way to work, a Shell in Seabrook and a Citgo in Glenn Dale, are at $1.799.

If I want to make a 10 mile round trip out of the way, there's a Shell up in Laurel that's around $1.579.

$1.37 at the local low price area. Take off $.10 for Kroger. Take off $.04 for credit card rebate.

Still too big of a discrepancy between reg and prem at this station. I can't figure it out. This may be a new high for the differential. I mean, we're talking 1/3 additional cost for 6 more octane??!

My usual Tuesday trip to the northern part of the county. Cheapest was off brand at $1.49. Sunoco not far off at $1.51.

I have to be up there Thursday so I'll see if it comes down a couple of cents more....

I went up to the Shell station during lunch in my '85 Silverado, where gas was $1.539/$1.699/$1.799 (87/89/93). Just one little problem...they ran out of gas! So I ended up going to the Chevron next door. 87 was the same price, $1.539. But 89 and 93 were $1.899 and $1.999, respectively.

I ended up filling up with 89. Took $24.35 to fill it up, 12.82 gallons worth. In comparison, the last time I filled up, October 26, it was $38.95 fro 12.987 gallons of 89. Worst fill-up ever was back on July 26. $59.82, for 14.315 gallons of 93 octane, at 4.179/gal.

And the last time I ever got mid-grade cheaper than that was way back in March, 2004!
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
was for $1.53. It was weird because most stations on the way in to work were in the $1.50 ~ $1.53 range, with a couple of stragglers at $1.57. On the way home most had jumped to $1.70 for regular (with the Speedway at $1.79). My usual Jewel was filled to the gills since they were still at $1.50 so I went across the intersection to the Citgo - didn't want to take a chance on having the price jump up on me. Though even $1.70 beats the $4.30 I paid in the summer.

There were only a few stations this morning still at $1.50 (Jewel and a Shell), with a Citgo by work at $1.55.

Did something happen? Did an IEA report come out stating gas reserves dropped dramatically? :confuse:
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,648
I think in this area the $1.29 price at two brand name stations scared the oil marketers. Lots of stations are at $1.39 or so.

This morning the Speedway and other stations were back at $1.79, a 30 cent jump for that station, a Mobile. Although there is no collusion and no pricefixing going on, all the stations who have upped their price on Thursday have chosen $1.79 as the new price. :P

    Did something happen?

Oil prices slip to below $45 on failed US rescue for automakers (Yahoo).

So, that can only mean that the gas stations that jumped up thirty cents overnight are trying to raise some quick cash to pay their bankruptcy lawyer. :P

I think it's called "everyone buys their gas from the same supplier....." Same thing happens in my area. Gas magically is within $.05 across the region.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Funny, I was on a business trip the last couple of days, and the prices were still low. Yesterday afternoon, I paid $1.49 to refill the rental car at an Exxon in NW Indiana close to the Illinois state line, and even on the I-294 Tollway in IL, the "oases" (service areas) had Mobil advertised for $1.59.

Back home in central VA, no changes today: $1.55 for RUG at Hess and Sheetz, $1.52 at BP.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,648
    >magically is within $.05 across the region.

    Everyone had gone to $1.79 (outrageous isn't it, after $4.11 :P ).

Now this morning the Mobile went to $1.69. The point is that when it's back to $1.59 on Tuesday, we'll be happy here in W. Ohio. They will have thrwarted the push down to $1.39 and $1.29.

Yeah, it was a quick reminder of how the price jumps 20 ~ 30 cents a pop around here. Haven't been out so wonder what the prices will be on the way home or the weekend. I thought the increase may have been to the Bears playing last night, but with the weather and their record, it couldn't be.
  • sylviaesylviae Member Posts: 31
From last night @ 1.37 to today @ 1.45 and 1.50 ----???????? I cannot figure this out---can anyone ??? Is it because we are spending too much on holidays and need not so we can afford to buy gas???? Makes me wonder !!!
