Just about all the gas stations in York, PA are up to $1.99. And oil was down to $40 yesterday.

I was in South jersey near Millville. filled up for $1.79....and didn't have to get out of the car.

Oil down in the $36 range today. What a shock, manipulating supply will boost the price.

I saw and read about that yesterday. Oil prices dipped into the mid-$35 range, inventories increased (though the Bloomberg article stated gasoline inventories decrease), refineries are running at 81% capacity and this is because most use this time of year for annual maintenance. That last part struck me as funny because I remember the hearing from last summer & the summer before that where everyone swore up & down there is no set maintenance schedule.

My question is, would this be a good time to start building gasoline inventories as well as filling the strategic reserve(s)? I wonder what the quarterly profits are going to be for the fat-cats?

The other day, I filled up my '79 NYer, with 93 octane, and it was around $2.19 per gallon. I wanted to whine about the price going up, but then I looked at my mileage log. The last time this car had been filled up was in October! And the cost then was $3.19 per gallon, for 89 octane! So that cut the urge to whine, real fast!

I think 87 octane is running around $1.85-1.90 around these parts.

I think I've figured out by now that oil refiners and marketers don't tell the truth; they're like Congress and bankers and tobacco executives. When the excess stock hit them last December with lower usage, they worked to reduce refining to decrease the stock to bring prices up. They succeeded. Marathon/Speedway jacks the price up for no market reason in this area whenever the street prices drop competitively. Then they lower the price down over a few days or week to a little below the jacked up price. Then a couple weeks later they do that all again. Overall they raise the price.

Stations are $1.80s to $1.90s after a price rise on Tuesday this week.

Costco RUG $2.17 yesterday. Going up!!! While oil is going down. Hmmm
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I wonder if the next issue will be shortages to go along with rising gas prices. It sounds like the refineries aren't making any money with everyone driving less.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Just drove to the mall to get my wife her yearly Sees candy fix. Passed a Chevron. RUG was $2.29 and Diesel was $2.29. Those folks that bought the new VW TDI while D2 was high are now kickin' butt.
  • larsblarsb Member Posts: 8,204
Cheapest RUG in SD is $2.11 and cheapest diesel is $2.15.

They have virtually converged. Lucky TDI owners !!!!!

Willcox, AZ, Doc's and Mustang and the two Circle K's are all competing for our RUG business, charging us $1.99/gal.

All of this talk of manipulation has got me thinking 2010 Pininfarina-Bollore B-Zero again. The Italian-French collabaration is coming to three U.S. test markets in 2009, one of them being L.A. My next point: Will the $7,500 Barack Obama rebate apply to this all-electric car? Has anyone else besides me even heard of this car would be my next question! :D

...oil refiners and marketers don't tell the truth; they're like Congress and bankers and tobacco executives...

Agreed. I'm actually amazed at how they can just lie with a straight face - they must be damn good at poker!! I just feel sorry for my television; I know it's getting tired of me yelling at it whenever I watch all these you-know-whats on the business channels. Between them, Asman, Cavuto and their cohorts I'm going to burst a blood-vessel!!
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Yes I have and think it would be a practical EV for many people. I believe the $7500 tax credit should apply. If the B-zero has 16KWH of battery it will qualify for the full credit. I would love to see the whole $billion tax credit gone before the dweebs at GM launch their Volt. Trouble is getting past all the regulations will be tough for these small practical EVs.
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
I agree, the homogolation and crashtests, etc., are going to be huge for the B-Zero. Oh well, if the Smartcar can make it the 2010 Pininfarina-Bollore B-Zero can, too.

We're probably gonna hold with our 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS for a long, long while yet. It's a great compact car and I love it more now than when I bought it two years ago, exactly the date being 03/21/07.

Oh, ghastly is resting here at $1.99/gal for RUG...still. Here we're waiting for the next made-up reason for the oil industry and futures-traders to raise the ghastly prices to $2.75/gal for RUG.

Just topped off the Lexus at Costco. Premium $2.39 up 2 cents from yesterday. Most stations that sell diesel have it at the same price as RUG or Midgrade.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
$2.39 is a typical diesel price at the majors here.

Regular has crept up to $1.89. I forgot to note the premium prices; probably $2.11 and getting close to parity with diesel.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
was for $1.93 at my usual Jewels, which is now giving incentives if you use your Jewel's card - knocks a coupe cents off per gallon.

Overall we seem to be riding on the $1.94 or $1.99 coaster. The stations start at $1.94, then some rise to $1.99, then back down a couple days later to $1.94. Must be following this weather pattern we're going through.
  • oldfarmer50oldfarmer50 Member Posts: 24,192
Gas here in NY has topped $2 for RUG and is in the $2.02 to $2.10 range.

The prices both for retail and wholesale gas seemed to be going ever higher despite a drop in oil prices. Then, just about the same time that people started yelling about this fact here on Edmunds the wholesale price of gas dropped from about $1.26 to $1.10 yesterday.

Could we really have that much power? :confuse:

It would be nice to think so, LOL.

In our neck of the woods (central VA), our RUG prices have crept up to the $1.81 to $1.85 range. A lot better than a year ago, but I'm keeping that receipt from December when I paid $1.35 in NJ near where fezo lives as a souvenir.

On the heels of my speculation that once the Edmunds crew starts complaining gas prices come down, I see wholesale gas is down to $1.08 (up from $1.06 yesterday).

For my area that should translate to RUG at under $2.

Keep bitching, it seems to work. :)

Several local gas stations dropped to $1.92 this morning. So the range is not $1.92-$1.99.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Many stations have dropped to $1.79 for RUG, with one BP at $1.76.

Sheetz now has a 40-cent spread between RUG and 93. Add 10 more cents for diesel ($2.29).
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
in cowtown of the Cowboy and Indian valley plain, Willcox, AZ, RUG is sitting at only $1.94. That's at the two Circle K's in town and at Doc's. Dropped down 5 cents a gallon yesterday.

I have no clue what is going on. Gas dropped again over the weekend to $1.89. So the range is $1.89-$1.95.

The funny part is they are reporting gas prices going up. Gas dropped $0.10 in the past week.

    Diesel low price $1.93
    RUG low price $2.09

The predominate price in Salisbury is $1.799 a gallon for 87 octane, regular unleaded. Salisbury is the hub city of the Delmarva Peninsula, which is the state of Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Diesel here is $2.05 to $2.40. I can't recall a time since gas prices started tanking that it hasn't been substantially above the price of regular.

Diesel is still higher than RUG in our area. It's usually higher than premium, but I did see either $1.99 or $2.09 this past weekend, which has to be a record low for at least the last couple of years.

But I'm not a diesel fan and probably never will be "converted."
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
by me. Filled up for $1.88 at the usual Jewel. Saw a Speedway at $1.82, which was strange because this station is usually at least 10 cents higher than everyone else. The Shell and BP by work is sitting at $1.87 for 87 octane. The Gas City is running at $1.95 the last I checked (wasn't able to see what E85 was selling for at this station).

There is another station on my route that is also $1.82 for 87 octane but this fuel is really only fit for lawn mowers!!

After weeks of prices in the $1.70 and up range, they have dropped in large areas to $1.6X. I just paid $1.62 minus a 10 cent shopper discount. I'm waiting for the "restoration" to jump back up to $1.98. After all, the sun is shining today and it's above 32 again, so that's a good reason to raise prices, in Ohio at least. Not that I'm cynical about the jumping jack prices we usually get.

Shoot, I remember diesel getting above $5.00 in some places.

Prices dropped slightly. Sunoco at Rising Sun and Longshore in NE Philly:

    RUG = $1.91
    Ultra = $2.20
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    $1.83 regular
    $1.95 mid-grade
    $2.05 premium
    $2.25 diesel
$3.25 Moxie Java (our local Starbucks type franchise)

Here in upstate NY RUG jumped 8 cents overnight from $1.97 to $2.05. Wholesale gas jumped from a $1.04 to $1.30 this week. What's going on? Did a toilet overflow at a refinery somewhere and disrupt production?

Recently a man in Richland WA pumped what he thought was $28 worth of gas at a self-service station and paid for it with his debit card. When he got home he had a message from the card company that he had overdrawn his debit card by 81 BILLION Dollars for the purchase.

Washington state must have raised the gas tax way up to force people to conserve.

Not sure what move prices are going to make but things are jumpy. The station I usually fill up at is still holding at $1.97, but a lot of other places are at $1.99. I paid $1.93 this morning at one place and saw $1.95 at another. Usually all these place are inlock step so there appears to be some confusion and uncertainty out there. :P
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Same here. My fill-up today at the usual Jewel was less than last week @ $1.84 (but this was up 2 cents from Monday's price of $1.82). The prices on my route and by work at the Speedway, BP & Shell are at $1.90, $1.92, $1.90 respectively, an uptick from last week.

Haven't driven by Meijers so not sure what their prices have been lately.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
was for $1.94 for 87 octane. Prices did increase by 10 cents over last week's fill-up for me, but are down from the week's high of $2.06 ($2.059). Most stations are still at the $2.06 mark. I did pass the station near me selling E85; it is only 10 cents cheaper than the 87 octane price of $1.95. Looking at my records from last year I paid $3.30/gal on March 14th!! :surprise:

Last Thursday was in Benton Harbor, MI for a customer visit and prices there and in Indy were pretty much the same as here; a couple of spots had diesel for the same price as 87 octane.

Our prices here in the York area remain at $1.85 for RUG.

    Costco has regular for $1.70.

The majors mostly shake out like this:

    $1.85 regular
    $1.97 midgrade
    $2.07 premium
$2.09 diesel (the differential keeps getting smaller here)
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,022
$1.899 for 87 at the Shell in Seabrook
$1.919 for 87 at the Citgo in Glenn Dale.

We've been hovering either side of $1.80 around here for several weeks now. The premium is doing the same thing with the $2 mark.
