Have we already hit our summer peak? Costco dropped 2 cents since last Friday. Now RUG $2.83. Filled the Lexus at $3.03 per gallon. Got to love those Premium gas guzzlers.

Oil dropped yesterday to $68 but I heard it's going to bounce around $70 a barrel all summer. So it may fluctuate some but maybe we've seen the worst of it.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
$70 oil is a good price range to keep them looking and developing new fields. I am just glad it is not $4.60 per gallon as it was this time last year. I only have to save $5.50 to justify my trip to Costco instead of $9.20.

my '67 Catalina sets sail for Carlisle tomorrow morning! I have a mostly full tank, only about 50 miles since the last fill-up, but I still want to top off just before leaving, to get a feel for highway fuel economy. As of yesterday, prices were still holding at around $2.62 for 87 octane, and $2.92 for 93, at the Shell I plan on stopping at.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
It'll go higher on Saturday when my 1989 Cadillac Brougham hits the road. Hopefully, it won't rain.

Our 7-11 station is at 2.15 and others are around the same--maybe a few cents higher---all of a sudden---wham---the prices are going down---of course--given another week or so--they will be raised again---it never fails! I am thankful we have good prices here anyway on an average.

    Phoenix I paid $2.669 today...........
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
was for $2.75 at the Shell across from work. The prices have been dropping around work for the past week or so (a penny here, a couple there) and have been cheaper than my normal fill-up spot for the past month. So the truck's been getting the "good stuff" at Shell & BP for the past four weeks. Will be taking the Olds out Monday so hopefully the prices won't increase before then.

By home petrol prices are still in the $2.85 ~ $2.89 range for 87 octane.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Regular is $2.73.

Diesel went into passing gear and is $2.75 now. Supposedly a good bit cheaper at the Flying J on the edge of town.

we're sittin' pretty at $2.51/gal at three local establishments. In comparo that doesn't look all that bad.

Has shrunk to $2.32 in the usual lower price area. $2.54 is the nominal price through the region.

They're warming up the 9 signs for the $2.99 that will go up on Tuesday for the 4th of July long weekenders. We had been up to $2.85 for a minute a couple weeks back.

I have decided that whoever controls the pricing here, along with the market price we see on CNBC, decided to keep price up for vacation for first weeks after schools were out. Now I see traffic lighter on I70 and I75 and prices have shrunk--until Tuesday.

RUG has been dropping over the past week form $2.69 to $2.59 ($2.57 at many stations).
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
very slight drop at the local Shell. Last week it had been $2.619 for 87, $2.919 for 93. Now it's down to $2.599 and $2.899, respectively. Around this time last year, 93 octane was $4.299!
  • oldfarmer50oldfarmer50 Member Posts: 24,198
RUG has been stable in my area @$2.75. The oil speculators have been doing their best to repeat last July's rape of the American driver but to no avail.

When oil hit $73 a short time ago I was worried we'd see a repeat of last summer...but then some one blinked. First came the wild swings, up $2 one day down $2 the next. Then today the dam broke, down almost $3 and down some more after hours.

Just like last year the speculators house of cards is falling. Get ready for $36 oil and $1.75 gas by fall. I'd like to see all these greedy bastards in the cell next to Madoff.

Our prices have risen to $2.60 since last weekend by $.16 based on average price for all area stations per daytongasprices.com. The prices at the low competitive area have risen from $2.32 to $2.60, a more drastic swing than the average shows.

BUT I was wrong last week when I predicted since prices didn't rise last week on Thursday they would rise this week (typically Tuesday) and I thought we'd go for the $2.99 ceiling. Didn't happen. Of course, I'm glad to have been wrong--lots cheaper.

I filled the Sequoia today at Costco. RUG $2.75 down 10 cents from last week. Most stations still at the peak of $2.89-$3.05. I would expect them to fall back after this weekend.

another slight drop, 87 and 93 octane at the local Shell are down to $2.579 and $2.879, respectively. And with the Mopar show in Carlisle coming up this weekend, I hope these prices stay (relatively) low! Last year around this time, I filled my NYer up with 93 octane at $4.319 per gallon. And when I got off the main road on my way to Carlisle, I stopped and topped off because I found what I thought was "cheap" gas, at "only" $4.099 per gallon. :P
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
Got a 4th of July greeting from a friend that moved back in the Austin area. Said he filled his Lincoln for $2.31 per gallon. Does not miss CA prices or politics.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
We're seeing the same here, prices actually dipped a little, in the $2.73 range. Actually found a Thornton's station at $2.66 by home so filled the Olds up - it's been cool the past few days so having been running ok on the 87 octane.

How'd the trip to Carlisle go?
  • dtownfbdtownfb Member Posts: 2,918
Gas took another drop in South Central PA from $2.59 to a range of $2.49-$2.55.

I guess the speculators jumped the gun in trying to get oil back up over $70. they'll have to wait until next year.
  • jae5jae5 Member Posts: 1,206
Know this is off-topic but what is becoming of the IOU fiasco? With the budgets short-falls in just about every state was wondering how it was going to effect fuel prices, specifically fuel taxes. Our situation isn't being helped with "Da Mayor" trying to get the Olympics here.
  • oldfarmer50oldfarmer50 Member Posts: 24,198
Prices dropped from about $2.75 for RUG down to $2.59 in one week. Looks like I may be right about my prediction. Oil took a big hit this morning, down another $2.50/bbl. I guess this time around the speculators couldn't find any moms & pops to pass their overinflated options on to.

Good. Let them choke on 'em. :)

The GM show in Carlisle was fun, with two minor exceptions. A heavy rain came through that Friday afternoon, and I discovered the Catalina leaks. If I had just sat on the showfield and waited it out, I probably would have been better off, but instead I tried driving to the hotel, and it leaked where the roof joins the top of the windshield. We also found a bit of water in the trunk.

Oh, and the rubber knob came off of the passenger side window crank. Gotta love that GM quality. :shades:

As for fuel economy, on the leg up, which was almost pure highway, and keeping around 60-65 mph for the most part, I think I got around 16.8 mpg. But overall, once you factor in local driving, plus I decided to take a scenic route back home that took us over a steep ridge and around some twisty back roads, plus higher highway speed, more like 70-75 mph on the way home, I think my overall average on that trip was more like 13.5 mpg.

I'll be curious to see how my '79 NYer does this weekend, on the same trip. On the leg where my '67 Catalina got 16.8, the NYer managed around 22 mpg last year! I suspect, though, that maybe the gas pump just shut off early. I didn't try to top it off, but rather just stopped when it shut off.

Just filled my PU truck for the first time since April. Since last Thursday Costco went from $2.75 down to $2.59. The other stations are at $2.79 still. People seem to be creatures of habit. No matter how much the station charges they use the same one. My local Shell is still at $2.99 this morning. That 5% discount with their CC does not make it competitive. I get 3% from Costco using AMEX card.

Which one? The blue one or the beige one, or do you refer to the beige one as a Fifth Avenue?
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
We've dropped from $2.69 to $2.65 to $2.63 over the last few days in the face of 4th of July and the Central PA Festival of the Arts, which miraculously always seem to coincide with price increases as large numbers of folks flock to State College

Supply and demand? Not even close

Wow, small world. Dillsburg PA is where I've been stopping off to top off when I go to Carlisle. I'll hit the Shell down here, and then hit the Getty at the intersection of Route 15 and 74 which branches off to Carlisle. That stretch is almost pure highway, with the exception of a few traffic lights down here, before I get to the B-W parkway, a stretch of 32 that has two or three traffic lights, but usually only the one at I-70 catches me, and then the few in Dillsburg.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
Lemko, I call 'em both NYer, although I guess sometimes I do flip back and forth between NYer and 5th Ave for the beige one. Anyway, it's the beige one I'm bringing up. I still don't trust the blue one. Since I had the work done on it, it hasn't left me stranded anywhere...yet. But it's still cranky to start sometimes, and lately it's picking up a new trick. The rear wheel cylinder on the driver's side has been locking up. It usually goes away after the first 4-5 times I hit the brakes...but I don't want to take a chance going too far until I get it fixed.

Premium is hovering around $3.05 in western WA, at least it was over the weekend.

E55 averaged 24.7mpg in a few hundred miles of highway driving per the trip computer, with several spurts to 80-85 or so. Not too shabby.

    In Boise, at the majors.

My wife filled up the van today and I asked her if she noticed that the price at her usual station had gone down from $2.73 in the last few days. She said she just needed to fill up and didn't even check the prices. :P
  • dtownfbdtownfb Member Posts: 2,918
Route 15 south of Dillsburg is a great road to travel. gotta watch the cops on the entrance ramps though esp. as you get closer to Gettysburg. I live down 74 in the York area.
  • oldfarmer50oldfarmer50 Member Posts: 24,198
I filled up at my local cheapo station this morning @ $2.59 for RUG. On my way back to work this afternoon the priced dropped to $2.57. I don't even mind paying more. I love seeing the price go down almost daily.

BTW, oil was down another $1.75/bbl. The big boys must be shorting the market now.

Rumor has it that Soros made over a Billion last year shorting oil. He probably made it going up and going down. Sad that he is allowed to live outside prison. I think if the truth were known about Soros he is a bigger thief than Madoff.

not sure if it is the same shell station, but i was headed north on 15, and a couple of miles before the shell station there was a sign for an exxon 8 miles ahead, so focused on that and drove right by a shell station. who says advertising doesn't work?

    RUG prices:
    $2.49 in Opal, VA
$2.39 in Hillside, NJ (next to Newark)
    $2.43 in Pleasantville, NJ

I never buy gas in NYC if I can help it -- the lowest I saw there was $2.75.

The lowest now at home in central VA is $2.43 at BP, although across the Blue Ridge in Staunton, I see Gas Buddy is reporting in the low $2.30s.

Last year on the 4th of July oil prices peaked at $145.29. Today oil is at $61. Did they find a large new oil field or were prices manipulated by unscrupulous commodity traders?

Starting to feel like the current prices are unsupportable. RUG dropped 6 more cents today to $2.59 and it NEVER drops here during the arts festival and the captive crowd that needs to fill up to get back home afterward.

Without predicting 99.9 :shades: it sure feels like we're going to head lower given the news of the day in the oil markets
