Andre, you are right about the conversion. If I'm not mistaken, it takes 3.78 liters to make a gallon. So, .20 a liter times 3.78 = .0756 per gallon.

I filled up my E430 yesterday. The reserve light had just come on and I put almost $43.00 in. Gas was $2.379 for premuim at a Shell station in Memphis, TN.

    >20 a liter times 3.78 = .0756 per gallon.
    That should be $.20 per liter X 3.78 liter/gallon = $.756 per gallon!!!
Those were the good old days.

Imidazol97, exactly, sorry for the typo. I remember paying $.65 a gallon for regular in 1979 when I had my new 1979 Datsun 210 hatchback, I filled up with 10 gallons for $6.50. Those were the good old days! (as you said)

I saw $2.319, $2.419, and $2.519 at the local Shell station. This is getting ugly.

Filled up for $2.09, a bargain at Mobil/Exxon in an area of city where price usually is competitive with other nearby stations.

Gas was $2.19 in Eastern Tenn on vacation over weekend. In Kentucky it was $2.39 Wed/$2.25 on Saturday.

Discussion on morning drive radio was that the last time crude oil was $54 barrel the price of gas was $1.80 roughly. Why the higher price now??? :surprise:

You'll find a lot of terms like overbought, bubble bursting, etc. You'll see that oil and gasoline futures prices are down again today for the sixth consecutive day. But as I'm reading this online, the national radio news is droning on about increasing prices at the pump.

The oil market REALLY seem to run on emotion, and frankly, I think the way the news is reported feeds into that in a HUGE way.

I refuse to be stampeded by the gloom and doomers.

    Back to basic reporting...

State College, PA dropped 4 cents yesterday to $2.19 at a lot of places, and even to $2.17 at one station I saw.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I've wondered this...I know gas has been steep in Europe for some time, and spiked a few years ago and stayed high. But has it spiked again there in recent months as it has here...or is this just a North American ripoff? Have prices there increased 30% or even the same raw amount over the past couple months? Somehow...I doubt it...

"Discussion on morning drive radio was that the last time crude oil was $54 barrel the price of gas was $1.80 roughly. Why the higher price now???"

That's a good one. Oil company profits aren't at record levels for no reason...funny how increased costs lead to record profits. Some people are becoming even wealthier from this.

I saw premium for $2.83 in Bellingham yesterday,

Filled up on Saturday in Millsboro, DE, just outside the Rehoboth Beach/Dewey Beach area of Delaware for 2.09. Ranges from 2.09 up to 2.19 in that general vicinity.

Cheapest I saw driving back to VA yesterday was 2.15 near Kent Island, MD, Route 50. Rest of the vicinity was 2.20 and up. Guess where the line was?

Cheapest I saw yesterday in VA was 2.24 at Sunoco near Glebe Rd./entrance to Route 66 East bound.

I'll know we're in The Twilight Zone for sure if 87 no-lead starts going for $2.95/gallon in Burlington, WA, my old stomping grounds. Yikes. :(

Only some stations had dropped on Sunday, the rest followed suit here yesterday to $2.19. ABC national radio news on the radio as I'm posting here. Gee... for the first time in about a week no big doom and gloom story about gas prices. Guess 6 consecutive days of falling oil and gas futures prices had their effect ;)

And the mere thought of a rise sends prices back up. Funny how that works. I wonder by what margin oil company profits will be shattered this year.

I'll keep you updated, iluv. I think that area tends to be less than Bellingham, which marks up prices for tourists I think...but at the current rate, such a price wouldn't surprise me this summer.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Had to run some errands this morning and while taking note of gas prices, the standard gap between grades seems to be 10 cents, except at the one Sunoco station that seems to try to undercut on pricing at times. They have premium at $2.31 instead of the $2.39 that it is everywhere else. They don't have their 89 price displayed, so I'm not sure if they're running 6 cent gaps or just discounting premium.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I paid 2.39 at Costco yesterday after sitting in line for ten minutes.

The other stations are about fifteen cents higher.

    Oh, that was for regular.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
I've noticed "sales" on gas at stations or on higher grades that don't move as fast at stations in the fall and spring.
Just saw one Sunday with all grades at regular price.
I wonder if this is related to change of seasons and needing to sell winter mix fuel to make room in the tank for summer blend.

another store into the Issaquah area, too. And offer people fuel for less. We seem to have come full circle on this gas and go to various stores all of the time thing. And Seattle's urban sprawl just keeps a sprawlin.' :D:D

BTW-does Costco still sell new cars at their stores? Or was that just an idea that never took off very high and crashed like a zeppilin filled with Led?

I bought the same car used in 1980. it was the dark red color and compared to the Corolla of that year, I thought it was pretty cool. Too bad the car turned out to be a rust bucket and couldn't get out of it's own way with the a/c on.
I feel in love with it the moment I saw it on the dealers lot and kept it till 1988, but by that time it was white, as the original paint had a rough time down here in sunny South Florida.

A chain of stations that usually lead the way in price changes at the pump dropped to $2.17 today.

Costco has never sold cars. It's only one of many referral programs.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372

State College PA dropped from $2.17 to $2.09 for 87 today. Looked like business as usual at the pumps. Thankfully nobody runing out to fill up on a price drop!
  • bottgersbottgers Member Posts: 2,030
.....it looks like you called it. Prices have stablized and even seem to be dropping a bit. I've got to wonder though if this isn't just the calm before the real storm. You know how the prices always get jacked up for summer starting Memorial Day weekend? I'm afraid to think what prices might be then!

from 4/18 to 4/19 at Sunoco Station in No. VA; Glebe/I66 interchange. Gas was still at 2.09 in Delaware this past weekend.

Most ARCO's $2.49 or less.........everyone else add a dime or more. Bought some 89 octane today for the chain saw @ '76' and it was $2.63.........prices are fluctuating daily around here.
  • rockshocka1rockshocka1 Member Posts: 310
$2.04-$2.21 range in stations around Charleston, SC for 87. 2 stations are side by side outside of the base where I work. One is a BP with 87 @ $2.06, the other a JD's Express station with 87@ $2.04. JD's always seems to undercut the BP by a penny or two, but I've never noticed them to be more busy at the pumps than the BP. Maybe brand recognition is a factor? It is for me, I'm a regular at the BP.
  • bryanbryan Member Posts: 198
Sunoco Station at Glebe Rd./I66 interchange in No . VA dropped five cents two days ago; back up this morning by that same five cents. Don't get it!
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
I really think there's something odd about the way gas prices work. How many consecutive days of falling oil and gas futures did it take before those drops started to show up at the pump? MAYBE I'll believe that changes at the pump lag behind the commodity markets... Yet a day of oil rising and prices flip back up???

St louis, for some strange reason Plus is cheaper than plain unleaded here on the west end. Texico 2.14 much better than the close to 2.50 earler.

Wow, I'm not seeing anything like that in west st. louis. You must be looking in the city - at the station next to my house in w. county, it's 2.01 today.

...you're in West County? Whereabouts? My mom used to live in Kirkwood, basically about two blocks from the Lindbergh/Manchester intersection (kinda right behind that Ford dealer on Manchester). I lived with her during Summers in college; I really miss St. Louis, except for the weather in Summer (how do you live with that humidity and no wind?).

Gas on the north side of Chicago seems to have gone down a tiny bit, last night I saw $2.41/2.51/2.61 at a Citgo station.

Yesterday every station here in State College was at $2.09 for 87. This morning we were at $2.15. Late this afternoon, still $2.15... then 5 hours later, I passed a station that had changed BACK to the $2.09 price, and a mile up the road, another had changed to $2.17.

Anybody care to take a crack at unbefuddling me?? :confuse:
  • sandman46sandman46 Member Posts: 1,798
Have been seeing 87 at anywhere between $2.21 up to $2.39, just depends where you go. I just don't get it...and probaly never will. Wife is seriously considering the Volvo S40, but might convince her to look at the Corolla LE if the prices for 87 don't settle down a bit.

In NW WA prices have still yet to fall a single penny. They've remained static for the past 2 weeks or so now. So odd as prces do seem to have fallen at least a little elsewhere.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
...if you (or anyone else) can make sense of why gas prices rise and fall (in the same day, with certainly the same gas in the underground tank), you will have solved the equivalent of the ninth wonder of the world.
  • Kirstie_HKirstie_H Administrator Posts: 11,242
ghulet, I'm not too far from there - just slightly SW of there, actually, a stone's throw from West County mall. Hate the humidity and every year I swear I'll die of it. But here I am.

Went up to $2.14 this weekend :(

because I was able to get 87 octane for $2.099 in New Cumberland, PA on Saturday. It's still around $2.299-2.311 per gallon around my house. Yesterday though, I was out by the Wa-Wa, about 15 miles from my place, and saw they had it for "only" $2.159 per gallon.
