only $2.79/gal yesterday in Tucson, AZ, at the Circle K's.
Tucson is the location for the University of Arizona Wildcats and so there is a young and energetic vibe to the city. There is also art around every turn in that city. They even put Aztec/Indian type art on the overpasses and underpasses. The vibe is very artistic-pictures on the sides of buildings, even the trash cans are creative, like somebody's shop project to take and form metal into whatever is striking you as artistic at the time.
We found a great Mexican restaurant downtown and enjoyed a great meal and Margarita's. Ahhh...perfect way to chase the humidity away!
was selling for $2.67 / $2.77 / and $2.87/gal yesterday at the Murphy Gas (Walmart) in Cedar Park, Texas. Seems to be down 2-3 cents since last Friday.
I've heard the local Shell station has 87 for $2.64/gal but I haven't laid eyes on it to confirm.
I think you mean "economical advantage" instead of efficiency advantage. The diesel cost looks to be about 10% higher, but remember diesels typically get 30% better mpg.
Around my area diesel is usually the same or cheaper in the warmer weather; and more expensive than gasoline in the winter (when heating oil is in high demand).
$2.41 at Krogers in that area, minus .10 = $2.31 if you have a credit left for the month at Kroger's gas islands. (You get 1 fillup at reduced rate for each $100 spent in the store previous month.)
there's a big 30 cent jump in prices like we saw early in the summer. I believe prices will be fairly smooth until after November; the politicians are out here campaigning during their monthlong vacation from congress.
I expect a 10-15 cent jump for Labor Day to catch travels' dollars.
Lowest near me is $2.39/$2.41; highest, $2.71. Think how last winter this would have been high; now it seems low. Oh how the oil companies and friends have training our reactions to pricing.
$2.32 at BP locally in Western Ohio. $2.34 here local. I'll go by tomorrow and it'll be $1.79 again. Oh, for the good old days. Well maybe not $1.79. Must be close to election time for those congressmen home campaigning here--DeWine, voinovich, Boehner. When I saw the signs I just bout dropped my dentures on the way home from the football game! We'll have a $.40 rise in price tomorrow, just watch. We often have the $.30 price rises, so I can expect the worst. A tanker runs aground and they have to raise the price.
...saw Sunoco Regular for $2.83 this morning. "ultra?"93 was $3.11.
Funny how the prices fell once the story of the corroded BP Alaska pipelines hit the news. I was expecting another huge spike in prices. Maybe the oil companies realized they had gone too far and expected a huge backlash from the public, so they backed off?
I saw $2.88 per gallon at a Shell station in Riverdale, MD. Unfortunately it was on the other side of a divided road, hard to get to, and, well I had almost a full tank anyway.
First time I saw such a large variance of price in Wilmington, Delaware, Shell regular (87) $2.79, $3.03 (89), $3.21 for 93 V-power. There is a long line at the pump.
No lemko, November is right around the corner so they are starting to back off. If their party wins, then you can expect the prices to return to record breaking territory again.
Even I remember when I was paying $0.72 a gallon in 97'-98'
Heck I griped when gas was hit $1.20, now only if we could go back to those glory days, then we could afford to travel with our kids on vacations and not feel guilty wasting money.
Rocky, if you were paying 72 cents a gallon in 1997, that was about 58 cents less than the LOWEST USA AVERAGE for any week in that year. Your dad owned a gas station?
The last time gas was 72 cents in the USA was in probably in 1987 not 1997. In January 1987, the Bay Area gas price was at an 82.8 cents per gallon average.
Rocky, if you were paying 72 cents a gallon in 1997, that was about 58 cents less than the LOWEST USA AVERAGE for any week in that year.
I remember 87 octane getting down into the 80s for a brief period around the end of 1997, after the Asian flu had fully settled in and produced a temporary oil glut. $2.49 at the local full-service place today.
one figure that always sticks in my mind is paying $1.269 for premium for my '89 Gran Fury in October, 1998. Gas prices were on the rise at the time, and I remember filling up at one of the cheaper stations around, a Citgo that housed a 7-eleven.
For most of the 90's though, I remember 87 octane being around $1.00-1.10 per gallon, at least around here. It went up to around $1.60 during Desert Storm. And through 1998 on into 1999 it seemed to gradually creep up. I remember $1.40-1.50 per gallon by the end of the year, and we were pushing $2.00 per gallon by the summer of 2000. By late 2001/early 2002 though, it was under $1.00 a gallon if you looked for it.
I got my first car in January 1987. I remember occasionally gas would get below 80 cents per gallon, and we'd whine like babies whenever it got up over a buck!
Right. I expect a strong increase but not the $.30 I joke about for the Labor Day travel. They don't want people to remember it on November 7, election day. I remember though.
...Sunoco Regular is $2.77 and I have seen "ultra?"93 for $3.05. When are they going to bring back the real Ultra 94? It was the demise of the real stuff that had me more upset than the price itself. Not only am I paying more but for watered-down slop?
Shoot, if these clowns get reelected to Congress, then the gullible American people get what they deserve.
...I actually saw Sunoco Regular for $2.71 this morning. Of course I hear the morning business report say the reason gasoline prices have plunged is because oil has dropped from a high of $77 a barrel to $70. But then the announcer says, "But there is unrest in Iran and Venezuela and the hurricane season is far from over!" Enjoy it while it lasts, guys!
Larsb is right. When I bought my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. in December 1998.. I took a trip to see my brother in Dallas and I paid just under .80 a gallon. It was so funny to watch the pump put a gallon in before reaching a dollar. Oh, the good-ole-days!
Current gas prices at Chevron in Palm Springs, CA..
Reg. $3.19 Plus. $3.29 Prem. $3.39
Not long ago, I had paid $3.65 a gallon for premium at this station.

$2.799 for Reg. 87. Over a week ago the price was $3.099, the price has dropped that far, but I don't expoect it to last too long. Its funny how gas is $2.799 and I think its low after paying $3.09 for a while. That shows you how the gas companies have conditioned us to high prices. Raise the price for a while then drop it down for a while then go up again but not as the higher price earlier. Now the consumer is actuallly paying more and not realizing he was duped into the higher price.
LOL....I honestly paid $0.72 a gallon at the Admiral station in Allendale, Mi. in 97'. It was at that time cheapest gas around the greater Grand Rapids area. I complained about having to pay $0.05-$0.20 more in town (G.R.) and back home in Pullman. :surprise:
Nope dad never owned a gas station. :P I guess the prices we are paying today have warped peoples brains so much they forget what we were paying when another party had some control. :P
Well anyways went to our union meeting last night after work and drove through Amarillo, and gas prices ranged from $2.74-$2.99. Dumas, gas prices were $2.89 for a couple of stations I saw.
Mom paid $2.57 last night she said. (Wyoming Mi.) (suburb of Grand Rapids)
Down to $2.75 at most places here today, witha couple down to $2.73.
Here's a thought, NOW is the time to hit 'em with bit of a cutback in fuel use while the price momentum is swinging down. REALLY drive the numbers down by "expanding inventories" :P
Where?? Where?? I need to fill up today, and near my house it's still $2.53.

I just checked gas buddy for St. Louis pricing. There's a station brand called "Dirt Cheap." I'd never imagine that name for a gas station!
I thought "Donuts and Gas" for a donut shop and gas station together in suburban Cinci was a hoot 25 years ago before fooderies started adding gas stations or vice versa.
ere's a thought, NOW is the time to hit 'em with bit of a cutback in fuel use while the price momentum is swinging down. REALLY drive the numbers down by "expanding inventories"
That actually is a good idea. Instead of using the lower prices as an excuse to drive more, harder, etc, and push demand back up, it seems to me that if people kept on trying to conserve a bit, it might go a long way towards pushing prices even lower. Hmmm, I think I just talked myself out of cutting the grass this weekend. That oughtta save a gallon or so. :shades:
You guys need to see "Inconvenient Truth"... the Al Gore movie. It's a real eye opener. Makes you want to really conserve to save our planet.
The jest of the story is that we can reverse the trend of losing our snow caps (north and south poles) because of the green-house gases. If we all do just a little bit on using less, we can do it.
If it's still playing in your area, I think you guys would enjoy it.

I haven't seen it, but have heard that it is a recycled slide show that he has used since the 80's. He just updates it whenever one of his predictions doesn't come true.
I'm a proud democrat, but Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" should be renamed "Al's Inconvenient Lies". There is no proof to this day that global warming is caused by a renewable fuel source called oil.
Would most of us like cleaner air and water ?
I'd say YEAH !
Yes, going to alternative energy's would help in this area. I'd rather smell French Fry grease than oil smog.
Neways back on topic: Gas prices dropped about a dime from yesterday. $2.78 the lowest. $2.79 at most places. $2.86 is the highest. :surprise:

If I were to show you a picture of a California beach and asked you "what color is that beach?", you might reply "well, it's kind of an off white".
And you would be correct.
Yet if you took a hand full of the sand from that beach you would find a few small microscopic bits of sand that were NOT white. They might be dark gray or even black. And with enough time and patience (and a steady hand and a good pair of tweezers), I could fill a small bottle with JUST THOSE dark grains of sand and then wander around the world with my bottle of dark sand talking about the "Black sands of Californian beaches".
And folks would say "you guys need to see rorr's bottle of Californian sand. It's a real eye opener".
The point is, Mr. Gore has an agenda. And as the producer of that piece of....film, he can pick and choose just which facts he WISHES to show....and which facts he doesn't.
Rorr, I'm not saying that you are wrong. I was not particully an Al Gore fan myself but I really did like Clinton. That's funny about the bottle of sand. It's what every group will do to make a point in their favor (especially religous groups).
The movie makes a lot of good points... you don't have to believe everything that is shown or said. It is a film that makes a person think. That's what I like about it.
