Yes there is a discussion of stabilitrak in the media package. There is even one slide with a graphic picture of the components of the stabilitrak system. There are other features, like the power folding mirrors and power reclining 2nd row seats that I didn't mention either.

When I get a chance to completely go over the material, I will prepare some html code and post it on my web site. (don't look for it before the end of the weekend though)

I just thought it was cute that GM sent this out with postage due. Not a good way to make a good impression on the media.

The GMC site finally has info on the 2001 Denali (www.gmc.com. The prices and colors are as I posted in #97.
Our dealer didn't have an allocation yet, and now we are starting to question whether its worth $8,100 to get the 6.0. We are thinking of changing to the Yukon SLT with the 5.3, sunroof and locking dif, and adding boards, dash and wheel well trim ourselves. We're not really sold on OnStar with changing technology and ongoing membership fees. I even prefer the grill and body trim on the Yukon-will miss that 6.0, though!

I have been trying to place an order for about 6 weeks. My dealer tried to place an order for a gray Denali XL and was informed that no orders could be placed for this week. Anyone got any
    more info.
Wonderland I think you make a good point.

I cancel an order on a X5 BMW because of the size.
My BMW dealer sent me weekly status updates.
At a GMC dealership I can't even place an order.

I am getting ready to buy a new Yukon Denali XL in the Austin TX area. I am hoping to use negotiating power of the purchase of 2 vehicles. My goal is to get under $1000 over invoice and as close to $500 over invoice as possible. Please email me at AndrewLobsenz@TX.SLR.COM if you are interested.

I really wanted a Navigator until I saw the new Escalade. I'm not sure if I can convince my husband to by a vehicle that has as many new changes as the Escalade will have because he believes you should give automakers a year to work out the kinks. Two months ago I had a Cadillac dealer calling me offering an Escalade with $8000 in free upgrades (gold-package, wheels, spoiler, etc.) I told him I was nervous that he was throwing in all this stuff because rumor had it that the new Escalde was getting ready to come out and they needed to get rid of the old ones. He swore me up and down that it would be well over a year to a year and half before the new Escalades came out. What a liar, I won't be going to him to get a new Escalade.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
While the Escalade is new, the basic design, suspension, engine, frame has been out for two years with the Yukon, Yukon XL, Tahoe, and Suburban. So in actuality it would not be considered a first year vehicle in the real sense.

I am starting to like the looks of the new Escalade... I just have to wonder how to afford it up in Canada here.. haha
  • mbml55amgmbml55amg Member Posts: 57
The Escalade looks much less horrid in silver, or pewter in the newer photos than in the initial black photos. I can't say I'm exactly in love with the looks, & maybe it is growing on me a little, or maybe it simply looks that much better in the lighter colors. I love the technological upgrades ithe Escalade offers, but that front end is less appealing to me than the Denali's.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
look at it while driving...it's just the thought of all the people who will be looking at it, then you, back at it again, then you and come to some kind of conclusion.....
  • cwmartincwmartin Member Posts: 89
The reaction to the looks of the new Escalade may be like the reaction that took place when Chevrolet did the last major redesign of the Caprice. Everyone hated the bubblegum look at first and then it grew on people. Later when Chevy came out with the souped up Impala SS version, it sold quite well.
  • buttabutta Member Posts: 44
I agree with CW. As unsure as I am about the new Escalade's exterior looks it just might grow on you (and the good kind of grow too).

I must commend Caddy for putting out a 2wd version though. I was hoping the new Denali would offer the same thing but I guess GM is going to wait and see how 2wd 'Lade sales go before they follow suit.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
Hell of a lot of problems with the rack and pinion. Seems like GM hasn't quite figured it out as of yet. Unless they go with the old recirculating ball. Anyone know for sure?
  • kalexander2kalexander2 Member Posts: 10
I talked to a Cadillac dealer yesterday and he told me that information booklets on the Escalade won't be available till January and the price is going to be around $60,000. Has anyone else heard anything like this? I figured there would be a price increase, but that number kinda floored me. I may just settle for the Navigator.
  • cwmartincwmartin Member Posts: 89
The base prices of the Escalade will start at $46,900 range for the 2wd and $49,000 range for the AWD version. (Exact prices haven't been released yet, but these are the numbers in the media kit)

Does anyone out there know what the 2001 Denali invoice pricing will be or is?
  • mbml55amgmbml55amg Member Posts: 57
Saturday I ordered a Garnet Red/Pewter Leather 2001 Yukon XL with the only 2 options available, sunroof & 4 Captains chairs. Delivery Date is still an unknown, we'll just have to wait & see. I'm wondering how close the Garnet/Pewter combo will be to the Bordeaux/Charcoal on my ML55. They look similar in the Yukon photo.
  • andyl2andyl2 Member Posts: 84
should begin on 9/28 according to the Yukon brand manager (I spoke to him 1-2 weeks ago).
  • larssunlarssun Member Posts: 14
Anybody have any idea what the gas mileage will be

For those of you who have ordered the 2001 Denali XL, what kinds of deals have you been able to get?
  • joinersjoiners Member Posts: 1
We paid $1500 over invoice for our Yukon Denali. The XL was the same deal.
  • drb2002drb2002 Member Posts: 72
I am ordering my XL Denali for invoice + 234.35 markup...

My wife and I just need to decide on one of the 5 colors. I want red, she wants blue... too bad it is not offered!
  • andyl2andyl2 Member Posts: 84
I have ordered my Denali XL. The MSRP is $48185, the invoice is $42,254.

I negotiated what I think is a supurb deal on this vehicle from 2 dealerships in Austin TX. I chose the dealership that was better and more convienent for me. The salesman at the other dealership was very nice and I told him I would try to find someone who is interested in purchasing the vehicle at $500 over invoice or $42,750. There are no advertising fees added, just TT&L. If anyone is interested, please email me at AndrewLobsenz@TX.SLR.COM. I think the dealer would be willing to alter the equipment included or the model and still sell it for $500 over invoice.

The average mark up I found was about $1500 over invoice. I found one dealer that wanted list price and 2 that wanted close to list price.

Overall, I exceeded my expectations as far as my ability to negotiate this vehicle. I was not expecting 2 local dealers to be $500 or less over invoice. Several dealers (not the local 2 I primarily dealt with) added an advertising fee of up to $500 to the vehicle. I found 5 dealerships at under $1000 over invoice (advertising fee included, if applicable). I found comparable deals on both the Denali and the Denali XL. I looked at Austin Texas area, Cincinnatti Ohio area, and North Carolina dealerships.

I hope this helps all of you who are still looking.

For what it worth:I saw a 2002 Denali at a little mom ad pop combo Caddy/GMC dealership in Reedsburg, Ws. today...looked quite handsome indeed...it had MANUFACTURES plates on it. The dealership folks at least seemed to be excited. TAMCO

In Kellogg Idaho at Dave Smith Motors.

My salesman is Robert Fink. Avoid Bill(Top) Spencer. He knew absolutely nothing about the Yukons/Suburbans so I requested another salesman.

I recently got word I will be receiving brochures on the 2002 Escalade on or near 9-25-00. Just wanted to let any interested party know (wink, wink Tamco)!
  • hpyhpy Member Posts: 3
How much over invoice should I expect to pay for the Denali XL in California?
  • tccad1tccad1 Member Posts: 46
You were close. The real dealer cost is 3% of MSRP...including all the options...before destination. This 3% mark represents dealer holdback.
  • tccad1tccad1 Member Posts: 46
That is what I am here for. Especially when it comes to pricing! =) Jeff

Is there a picture out yet of the new 2002 Denali's. If so can someone put it on line
  • coldhardcashcoldhardcash Member Posts: 13
    Goto www.wieck.com
    Then Public Access
    Then search for 2001 Denali
There you will seem about 40 something.
Edmunds doesn't let us post other peoples pictures here as its violating our "user agreement" or such.
Also GMC has them on their site now too, with the 360 degree views. www.gmc.com

I am looking for a seat cover to go over the middle row seat (no buckets) to protect the leather from the kids. The cover must not damage the leather. Any suggestions?

About 10 days ago. The order has been accepted, but I do not have an order number yet or a target production week yet. I should get the TPW in the next week or so. I am expecting delivery in mid November. Production should have started on 9/26 (according to the Yukon brand manager at the beginning of September).
  • curtissilvercurtissilver Member Posts: 11
Good luck on getting the Denali XL's. I have seen the TPW slip from 9/25 to 10/30 to 11/6. Haven't mustered the courage to check this week...
  • curtissilvercurtissilver Member Posts: 11
Moved to 11/27. Anyone know what gives?

Now that 'budget time' is done at work, I am starting to have the personal time to perform the much needed updates to my "Unofficial General Motors SUV Information Site". I have just finished updating the Photographs page with pictures of the 2002 Cadillac Escalade, 2002 GMC Envoy, 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada, and the 2002 Buick Rendezvous. There are more pictures at the site than I have previously posted here on Edmunds. These pictures were added to the ones that were currently on that page.

You can find the new photos at http://suv.s5.com on the Photographs page.

I have come to the conclusion that it is too much trouble to maintain the web site at two locations. I have decided that all future updates will be done only to the suv.s5.com site. If you have any browser bookmarks or favorites set for the site at the Mindspring location, please update them to reflect the new location of the web site at http://suv.s5.com

Just moved from Minnesota to Connecticut. I used to get $500 over invoice in Minneapolis for the Yukon, but haven't found anything close around Stamford, CT. Anyone know of a dealer that'll give anything close to invoice pricing within 4-6 hours of Stamford for either a Yukon XL or Suburban?

    Thanks!

Just to add to the information. I have a Denali on order-placed August 3, original TPW was 9/11-- last I heard TPW is 10/9. I spoke to the Yukon Brand Manager last week and was told production was to start on 10/2.

Edmund's review of the 2001 GMC Yukon Denali and Denali XL is now available. Here's the direct link to the First Drive: 2001 GMC Yukon Denali and Denali XL, by Miles Cook. What do you think?

I placed an order in July. Still hasn't been accepted. Is GM building any for the dealers
    or just show cars.

I spoke to my local GMC dealer today (10/6) about the ordering the new Denail. I was told that GM's order system will no longer accept new order until a yet to be announced date. All existing order have been pushed back until December.
According to this sales manager, the Denali won't be on the showroom floor until late Jan early Feb. That news is not to promising to those of us who have either ordered or waiting to see the all new Denali. OUT..

I just ordered an xl denali last Thursday. Called today and learned I had a tpw of 11/9.

I talked with the dealer who said that they were supposed to start building them this month.

I also talked with a different dealer in another state who admittedly had real low allocations. He said that he couldn't even order them - hadn't received any allocations and had heard that production had been held up.

    Who to believe?

I'm venturing a guess that the production line is on a week to week hold.

BTW - I've learned that the success/delivery time of your order is different depending on the dealer. (I've seen that in action - bought one of the first yukon XLs from a high volume dealer in MN. They told me that a group of 20 or so high volume dealers across the us got a "special" allocation of trucks before anyone else. They had a couple of dozen.

I just finished updating the news and rumors page at my web site, http://suv.s5.com , with information about future GM product releases. Included is a little information on the future Cadillac Escalade EXT, which is one of the new breed of SUTs.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
of motors for the windows. The Yukons are eating them like candy. Also appears that GM is replacing defective motors with defective motors...as the replacements are also breaking...go figure.

Does anybody know how reliable the 98-00 Denali's are/were? I've read that Denalis/Escalades are built very well (compared to other American cars) but I still don't think it compares to Toyota. I know the 2001 Denali is a different category than the 4Runner Limited but I am willing to wait until a re-designed 2002 4Runner comes out to see how it looks before taking the plunge on the Denali.
    Thanks !
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
full size luxury SUV? You should be looking at a Land Cruiser to compare with the Denali. Or a ford explorer to compare with the toyota.

My '00 Denali had vibrations from the get go at 25 mph. After countless balancing, we replaced the Firestone Firehawks with Michelin LTX M/S and the vibrations simply disappeared. Who would have guessed that it was the firestones causing the vibrations... ;)

The next area of the web site (http://suv.s5.com) that I plan to update is the links page. If you know of any good links, that are not currently on the page, that I should include, then please send an email to me at webmaster@suv.s5.com with the link information. Thanks

I spoke to the Yukon brand manager again today, 10/11/00. He assures me that Denali production started last week and it is moving along. However, he says they are ramping up very slowly. Building very few vehicles, making sure to get it right.

The last TPW I had for my order was this week but I haven't been able to get the dealer to give me a recent update.

The November issue of Car and Driver has a preview article, two pages, on the new Denalis.
