I have a 2004 Honda CRV with 68,000 miles and their is a burning smell coming from the passenger side rear wheel on dry and wet payment. Numerous dealers could not find the problem. Alignment was in specifications. The burning smell is intermittent. When the smell occurs you can touch the wheel rim and the rotor and both are cool to the touch. One service tech said his mothers 2007 is experiencing the same problem and it's nothing to worry about.
    Help anyone.

It has been determined on the "other forum" that the smell is from the rain or snow water boiling off the hot exhaust pipes.

I have had similar smell in a K20 powered Civic, both of out 2005 and 2010 CR-V's, which have K24 engines in them exhibit this behavior.

A few days ago I was checking under the hood looking for a noise when I reved the car to see if I could replicate it.

I didn't hear the "noise" I was looking for, but as I was revving the engine, I thought I could hear an engine knock - like a clicking coming from the engine. High RPM

Can;t say I noticed it when I was driving and don;t know of any performance issue. Oil has always been changed on time. Does the engine usually do that or does it sound like trouble.

In past cars this usually indicated a piston issue, but honesly can;t tell if it is the same noise. Just ever boticed it, but I'll be honest, can't say I have been under the hod whe nthe engine revved.

    thanks

Sorry about the last message. I forgot to hit the spell check.

I never noticed the noise before.

I would like to put a tow hitch on my 2004 CRV. What is the tow rating for it and also, I would like to tow a Pop up trailer. What weight POP up trailer should I get

I read elsewhere recently you too have an 05 CRV with a stick. Curious your mpg and your driving style to get said fuel mileage?

There aren't very many sticks out there. There are times I would like the 5 sp auto, but if you really have to get up and GO, as in aggressive merging or passing on 2 lanes, the sticks will just annihilate the autos. The difference is like having a V6 under the hood. Do you find that? So many parasitic losses with an auto I guess. I miss the tall final drive ratios that all the autos have tho. Our highway mileage would be better if it had the identical ratio. Of course it would not be as quick if it did..I think due to the lower gearing, the stick CRV will beat a stick Accord of the same year. I suspect the Accord gets much taller gearing even with the stick. Their weight is similar, but the AWD has very noticeable hydraulic drag on the CRV's...and of course pushes a lot more air if the speeds are higher..

Also, did you purchase Honda Manual Tran Fluid to replace yours yet? Or did you use a different fluid? If you have gotten into this, I am curious about another drain plug on it...It is towards the front of the tran..same side as the vertical drain and fill plug but fowards from there on the front and is on an angle. Appears to be 12 or 13mm bolt head. Was getting dark when doing my oil change the other day and back was killing me, so never did get around to measuring it. Do you know if that is an extra drain area that maybe few people know about? I know my old Matrix (AWD) had two drain areas for the tranny and few knew about it.

I'm probably the only one that tends to agree with blueiedgod on the issue, so I'm ready to take some flak for it. Still, even though on occasions he is pretty sarcastic, I share the general frustration with people that took the easy way just because they were plain lazy https://www.mangazuki.online/manga/lady-baby/. I've seen questions asked regarding stuff that's not only in the Manual, but even in the quick reference guide, even just common sense. Not to mention the numerous times when a poster pops in to ask a question that's been discussed only a few pages (or days) in the thread, but they didn't think they should make that effort.
Also, blueiedgod has dispensed some very valuable advice over the years, so I believe my Brother in Manual deserves some slack.

    Thank you!

How Honda locks have worked since at least the 80's. My 80's era Accord did not have power door locks (and of course no key fob) so it just became habit for me to do the handle lock thing as I exited the vehicle. IMHO it's an endearing quirk from an import brand. I hope the original poster came back for the answer so his father will be able to lock the doors.

I had an '82 Accord.. Of course, I learned the handle lock trick, pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, that also allows you to lock the keys inside the car. Did that twice in the 12 years I owned it.
