    Don't know the fix as you have to buy the TSB data(alldata.com) but if you bring the TSB number to the dealer, they can look it up. Seems like your dealer knows about this TSB already and knows the fix. Some dealers don't know the fixes so bringing in the TSB helps.

    Isuzus are kinda like stealth bombers. No one puts any faith in their abilities, until its too late. I've seen many other brands getting yanked out by Troopers and Rodeos, so don't discount them. That's why 3rd world countries use them along with TLC and Monteros in places that GCs, Durangos and the like would never even venture.

    I too have experienced the stalling problem when the Trooper is cold. I bought gas from different station the last few times and the temp here has warmed so there are no "cold" starts.

    The rattling from the exhaust is something I notce as well. This usually only occurs during aggresive acceleration so it doesn't bother me too much.

    HP - figures quoted by auto mfgs are measured at the fly wheel now. Not sure about back in the 60's. If you go to a Dyno machine to measure HP and TQ that is measured to the wheels.

    I have a 99 Trooper, and have had a similar experience with my low fuel light...there's not a lot of gas left when it comes on, but that's OK IMO. Do you feel there is a problem here?

    Just a couple of weeks after I purchased my 2000, the low fuel light came on. I was out of gas within 5 miles. I was lucky to coast into a gas station.

    The reason the rear brakes are larger is becouse the emergency brake is a drum brake between the rotor . If you look at it, you can see it.
    The vibration from your exhaust is the heat shield, I had mine replaced and it still does this when its cold.
    I now have 18000 miles on the trooper, use mobile syn oil and mobil filter. I check the oil every second tank of gas, and so far its not burning any.
    I get a little over 400 miles on a tank of gas on the HWY at around 75mph.
    A few times when cold the vehicle has idled roughly, but only when the AC was on.

    Yeah. I get the same tinny sound when accelerating from a stop..... Like a tinny buzzing. Usually only in the first couple minutes before the truck warms up. After that, by the time I get a few blocks, it stops making the noise.

    One thing that I am annoyed with though. I have only 500 miles on my Trooper. It seems like the steering wheel is a couple degrees off (counterclockwise) towards the left. At first I was thinking that it was because most of the roads have an incline to the right so that rain will run off, so maybe the truck comes this way. But even on very flat ground, If I hold the wheel straight I will veer off to the right. The only time the wheel is straight is when the road tilts toward the left. The truck was like this when I drove it off the lot. I hope they will straighten it at no charge. It is a pet peeve I have. I like for the wheel to be straight when the truck is going straight on flat ground.

    On another note, my '01 Trooper S came with an extra ashtray in the glove compartment. But I already have one in the dash (a different type). I can't figure out where this extra one goes. Anyone know?

    But my buddy has one as well. As for your non-aligned trooper, bring it to the dealer and tell them to re-align it. I believe that most troopers are slightly mis-aligned from the factory or become un-aligned during shipping. My dealer installed isuzu shims during the re-alignment and now it works w/o a problem.

    tntmyth, is the ashtray the one from the back of the center console? I had to remove that ashtray to install that extraordinary cupholder for the rear passengers. Maybe your cupholder was already installed.

    I wish the Trooper would have an air conditioning unit where the cup holder is on the rear console. Sometimes the people bake in the back seat while you freeze in the front.

    Those vents that go to the back are going to cool the passengers feet only. Correct me if I'm wrong, but COLD air falls and HOT air rises. I use the vents in the center of the dash, above the radio for the rear passengers. Try aiming the vents towards the dome light and put the fan on high so the air falls on them?

    Use the center vents to push the air up-back between the cetner seats. I have not had any complaints in my truck since I put in the tint on the 2 front side windows + keep the moonroof cover closed when the A/C is on. Aiming those center vents make a world of difference.

    But I'll bet that the Big 3 have something to do with it. Isn't it amazing how none of the big 3 ever have major rollover problems? Are their cars just better designed? Or is it a conspiracy?

    The console vents for the rear seat CAN provide air conditioning to the back seats, but ONLY if the control switch is set to the combination dash/floor setting. The console vents only receive air from the floor settings.

    Any stunt driver can get an SUV up on two wheels. The trooper was given a rollover badge and has been now ridded from the market--no trooper for 2003. I guess the Montero is next.

    OK I keep hearing all this talk about Isuzu doing away with the Trooper, but do we have any substantial proof of this? I really doubt that they will do away with the Trooper. All I know is if they do do away with it I will never be getting rid of mine. I will drive it until I die.....because we all know they last that long anyway.

    I have a good source of info from Isuzu. They are replacing it with a Yukon chassied truck, with a name even whackier than the Axiom. The Trooper doesn't roll, if it did, I'd have done it already.

    2000 Trooper LS /2wd. I get about 220 -230 on the first half. Down quicker from there.. My low fuel light comes on early... I have only gone real low one time. put in over 20.5 gallons and had not even touched E yet. Afraid if I ever did I would be out.

    I can make my fuel light come on anytime after about 250 miles...just barely under 1/2 tank... I take a 270 degree right turn (cloverleaf exit off I-40) ..Taking that at over 40-45 mph swings the guage almost to E and most time lights up the low fuel light.

    16,000 miles...mileage has gone up some. First 13,000 never got as much as 18.0 Since then worst was about 17.7, a couple of tanks over 19 with the average about 18.5.

    I noted that the gas light on my 1999 Trooper came on this morning while driving straight and level on the Interstate and I stopped for refuel and took on 19.5 gallons. I have gone as far as having to put in 22.3 gallons without running out of fuel but that is really cutting it close.

    At 19.5 gallons, the needle was covering the lower mark on the gas gauge.

    Today I drove my boss's new Tahoe for awhile. Pretty darn sweet. It was definitely better than my 97 Tahoe. What's my point? If the new trooper had the chassis and interior of the new tahoe with isuzu body styling, isuzu 8 cyl motor, and our fancy Borg/Warner trans; that would be one neat truck!! You can get a basic tahoe for under 30k if you look around. If the trooper I described were available for 28-29K, I would buy one when my 2000 I wears out. I paid 24K for it. I would go for the extra $$ if this vehicle became reality. Oh well, I can dream. Who knows, @ 36K per year I may need another trooper in another 5 or 6 years!!!!

    In what market? Cheapest Tahoe I've seen is near $35K with the weak V8 engine.

    Right here in beautiful Central NJ. We're talking cloth seats but still power everything. They don't use the 350 (5.7) any more; but I dare you to tell the difference. It also has more horsepower than the 5.7 My problem was I couldn't park the darn in every parking garage in Manhattan. They would wave me off half the time because the Tahoe will not fit on the elevator. They would have to keep by the door where the doctors/lawyer types pay extra for that privilege. I do not have the same problem with the Trooper though; haven't been turned down yet. I am really happy with it so far. I feel it is a true value. That's why I'll hate to see it go.

    relative term. More hp is still more hp. Perhaps the dealer you went to was a wee bit high? I can get one under 30K with a little searching and negotiating.     But it was much slower/weaker than my trooper. I punched the 4.8 gas and it didn't move anywhere. It's only like 290hp/270lbs torque or visa versa, and weighs much more than the trooper. Also visibilty sucked royally.

    I think you are comparing apples to oranges. If you are a person that hangs onto a vehicle for 10 years, I don't think there is a comparison. The Trooper will still be running and the GM product will be either a: not running or b: sitting on a used car lot for 1,500 dollars. When an American vehicle hits 100k miles, it is time for a new one. My friend has a jeep wrangler with a 4.0 liter engine and just had to have his exhaust manifold changed for 1,200 dollars. I had a ford ranger with a 4.0 liter engine and it smoked from oil leaking out of the valve covers. I don't know of an American myself that has hit 200k miles without a major overhaul or new engine. I could have bought a explorer or Cherokee, but I wanted something to last and not continually have to pay to have it fixed.

    For the longest time I loved the Suburban/Yukon/Blazer/Tahoe/Denali/etc. And figured that with the rear coils now, and rear anti-lock brakes, I'd be totally floored by the interior space, ground clearance, out-ward visibility, and power and acceleration. After my test drive, I came away with a less than great feeling. The step in was higher than my Trooper, yet had less ground clearance, the window sills were far higher than the trooper's, the visibility overall was very poor, due to large pillars and poor side-view mirros. So I said to myself, well, the longer wheelbase, and V8 power will surely make up for this. When I punched the gas on the 4.8l engine, it was like I had the parking brake on and the ride was about on par with the trooper. I'll give it that the room between the driver's seat and dash and overall width was a hair better than the Trooper's though. I was just let down. I guess I may have to go for a Monty next depending on the next generation Trooper.

    My 1995 Trooper takes up the same amount of parking lot as a Camry car, yet I have transported a 18.5 cubic foot refrigerator inside with the doors closed and all seats still inside the Trooper.

    The Trooper frame is wide, the Tahoe frame is narrow, so there is much more room for stuff under there between the frame on a Trooper.... So the Trooper has ground clearance without being too tall for garages. Also Chevy has had the pickup lawsuit about a gas tank outside of the frame, so the TahoeTrooper will move the gas tank to the middle of the frame away from the rear end, reducing ground clearance again.

    I hope if the TahoeTrooper actually happens Isuzu makes it less tall and less wide than the Tahoe but with more interior space and better ground clearance. I am OK with a longer Trooper, well maybe up to a foot longer.

    If you want to "feel" acceleration, get a motorcycle. Let the Trooper have an economical to operate engine that is adaquate but not overkill.

    The Trooper engine is adequet. Although, as we've gone over a few times in the owner's area, we'd like to see a 1-1.5ft longer trooper, a slightly wider one, and a bit more grunt for when it's loaded with 7 passengers + gear + 6K-8K trailer. For acceleration, I think it adequet, not outstanding. I also drive a small sports car so, for real enthusiastic driving I take that out.

    I didn't realize that the frame of the trooper was set out farther on the body than the GM trucks. That makes sense though. Also I think that the GM frame rails hang down way low, cause you can always see them sitting below the body, whereas on the Trooper I can barely see my frame rails.

    Hi, everyone. I have 2000 Trooper with a 5 speed manual. I bought this car about a year and half ago and now I have 24k miles on it. Few months ago I noticed that the clutch was slipping so I took it to a dealership. They told me that my clutch has worn out and they suggested me to get a new one which will cost me about $1400 soon. I've been driving 5 speed all my life and this is the worst clutch that I've ever faced with. I had a Honda before this Isuzu and it had 130,000 miles with its original clutch. Anyone out there experiencing the same clutch problem as I am?
