OT ever since the format change here at edmunds I really hate coming here. its still to slow and not organized in a logical format...
Is your Borla system the dual tip or the single tip system?
Do you have any recommendations for reorganizing the new format here in Edmunds? I would like to hear your suggestions and or ideas.
Their Prices have gone up since those days..
I have no suggestions, I just can't get used to the look perhaps the text is too small or something but who knows.. ... just not as comfortable a format. I used to check out all the other forums and I had a bunch (bookmarked or favorites) I can't remember what they were called Placemarked? Oh well nothing major.. blah.
For some reason I was under the impression that you have the single tip Borla. Sorry about that. I must have had you mixed up with someone else.
You can still book mark the forums, and you can enlarge the text via your browser.
Click on "Town Hall Help" in the sidebar. Then click on "Subscriptions" for instructions on using this feature.
If you have any difficulty, please let me know.

Folks,
We can all pretty much agree that product marketing for the Cougar is a tad nonexistent.
If that's not enough to ruffle your feathers, spend a few minutes letting BMW really upset you...
First, make sure you have a high speed Internet connection available. Turn up your speakers (or don your headphones) and visit http://www.bmwfilms.com/.
Watch each film, starting with 01 and working through 04 (my personal favorite). Choose streaming at 300kbps (RealPlayer or Windows Media Player) and right-click to go full-screen. RealPlayer is recommended for this (skip the screen test).
The first film is from the director of Ronin. Need I say more?
http://www.bmwfilms.com/site_layout/film_synopsis.asp?FilmID=1
The second film is from the director of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I'd say it's a toss-up between the Bimmer and flying through the air for transportation.
http://www.bmwfilms.com/site_layout/film_synopsis.asp?FilmID=2
The third film is surreal. Enjoy it for the deeper messages.
http://www.bmwfilms.com/site_layout/film_synopsis.asp?FilmID=3
The fourth film is...entertaining, from the director of Snatch. Do you recognize the special guest star appearance? Don't blow Coca-Cola out your nose watching this one (and laughing, obviously).

Now, can't you just wait to see Mercury jump on this original idea and create a Marauder film site, featuring old 70s porn stars and the extras from Dallas?! I think they might be able to swing a marketing upset with that one. Yeah, babay!

I have been downloading these over the past few days. I also thought about the piss poor advertising Mercury has done for the Cougar. I seriously doubt they will EVER make something like this. I doubt their current target market surfs the web very much. Maybe they will advertise the Marauder on the back of Geritol bottles?
Wait -- let me compose myself -- SNICKER -- and read over what you said -- SNICKER. Honestly, I may have misread you. I thought you suggested that -- SNICKER -- the Mercury Cougar could catch a BMW M3 -- SNICKER?
Let me see. You may not have meant to ask that. Message...1068. Here we go.
[Burnsmr4 re-reads message; wipes tears of laughter from eyes]
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
[Sound of Burnsmr4 falling over onto the floor]
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
[Sound of choking laughter from floor]
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
[Sudden silence; wheezing hear from floor; three hours pass; Burnsmr4's girlfriend walks into room to offer Christmas pickle]
"Honey, do you want the last Christmas pick--EEEEEEEEK!"
[Girlfriend discovers Burnsmr4 dead on floor from sudden fit of uncontrollable laughter; begins to weep and eat last Christmas pickle]
THE END
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Well. The Focus is a very impressive car with an intercooled turbo diesel. It pulls better than my Cougar and was infinitely easier to shift both up and down. Torque is enormous and the power was completely predictable.
I believe I drove the diesel wagon faster around curves than I could drive my Cougar. The wagon suffered a little on top end but did't complain about it. It was, in fact, completely smooth and delivered 35-40 MPG if I've converted right.
Why don't Ford give us good engines in the US?
Manufacturers should consider engines like VW's TDI series of Turbo Direct Injection diesels. I've heard they're great for gas mileage, particularly on long road trips. They don't get as much power as VW's low-end gasoline engines, but they also don't smell bad and are rather quiet.
I'm not sure about emissions, though. Anyone know if the TDIs are LEVs or ULEVs?
But beyond that, you don't have enough confidence in the Cougar to - aw, nevermind. I don't think I could do it either, unless I gave the BMW driver a sedative or something in his iced, mocha latte.
LOL!
Take care everyone, and Happy Cougaring!
(Shhhhh. I'm hunting for Beemers. hehehehehe.)
Why, I have full confidence in my Cougar on many levels!
I'm confident that, on any given trip, I'll enjoy the sound of one of several dash rattles/buzzes from my Cougar.
I'm also confident that, above 5500 RPM, the alternator light will come on.
The Cougar has also never failed me in the window leak department at an automatic car wash, nor have I lost faith in the fact that the drivers' window - -no matter what! -- will have to be re-adjusted so it will close.
And I have the utmost confidence in my dealership blowing me off and telling me that, unless they can recreate the fact that steering wheel DID fall off in my hands, all the gears are reverse, or the radio plays only police band stations, it didn't happen. Even if I have to drive backwards into the dealership using a wrench to steer while listening to police updates on a southwest Atlanta car chase.
Whatchyou talkin' 'bout, Willis? I got all sorts of confidence in my Cougar. I'm practically sitting in a pile of confidence about the car!
;-) burnsmr4
I think we have experienced the same problems in both of our cars.
I have mentioned before that my speakers come in and out all the time. But when I have it in for service, they work perfectly!!!! Well, yesterday I was driving past my dealer and my speaker happened to be out. So I pulled in and had to basically drag the Service Advisor out to my car to verfify the speakers were not working. he DId hear one speaker was out. He then had to get the head service guy to come look at my car. Right when he sat down in the passengers seat, the speaker popped back on. fugures!! Anyway, they did note it wasn't working and told me they would have to pull the radio(since that's what they think is wrong, not the speakers since when I turn up the vlume the speaker will usually pop back on) and send it to a local shop to figure out the problem.
They told me they will either repair it or replace it depending on what this outside shop finds. So when I bring my car in for service in a couple of monthes they will pull the radio. During this time I will be driving around town with no radio. I'm not sure what I will do hearing all the rattles all day long!!
Having hit a deer last year with disastrous consequences, I overreacted to miss the deer that was in my path. Two oversteers later, my Cougar rode up over a guardrail, then flipped upside-down in a creekbed.
I took a hard knock to my noggin that had me out for a minute or two. When I came to, my Kitty was still running, the CD player was still playing, but everything else was strange. It was VERY dark, I had no sense of where I was, and my first instinct was to try to steer the car.
When the steering wheel was not where it was supposed to be, I looked forward and saw many, many cracks in the windshield as some light source came near me. I got the hint that things were not well, and I stuck my hand out of my window (both windows were down, and the sunroof open) only to meet cold earth to my left.
Bail out time! I turned off the key, deposited in my pocket (force of habit?) and unhooked my seatbelt. After some wriggling, I found myself on the ground beside my front bumper. Being dazed and stunned, my first thought was "Hey, my car is upside-down!" I tried to turn it back over, but 4,000 pounds of dead Cat didn't budge against my best effort.
I was out of sorts from the blow to my head, and I don't want to go into my local police department's treatment of me after they arrived, but the important thing is, I LIVED!
After settlement with my Ins. Co. (they were FANTASTIC!), I promptly went to my local Mercury dealer to look at the 2001 Cougars. But No and behold, Mercury has RUINED the cat! Glaring, bright headlight assemblies that dominate the front of the car. Ugly grillwork under the front of the nose. A PUTRID color scheme for the instrument panel, and a techno-punk look to the dash that made me feel slightly nauseous.
Suffice to say, I couldn't bring myself to buy a 2001 Cougar. So, it is with heavy heart that I bid this group good-bye, and may you all drive your Cougars happily!
Rick
Seriously, Rick -- great that you survived with only a minor bonking of the head.
Tell us what you bought if you have a chance to visit here again!
Regards,
burnsmr4
What are you going to buy now? If you're also looking at sedans, I would recommend the WRX, they look nice (in my opinion) and great performers as well. Good luck.
burnsmr4: To bad there aren't lots-o-deer here in Atlanta. Maybe we can go on a field trip together and go deer hunting!!!!!
I think it was a conspiracy though, as deer are often the natural prey to the Cougar, they thought they'd get one-up by jumping in front of your Car. Take care, and thanks for being a member for so long!
If you do get back here, be sure to let us know what you ended up with, car wise.
And you're sure you're okay after a nasty bump on the head like that? Just making sure.
Later everyone, and Happy Cougaring!
It's as hot here as the Lakers were in the NBA playoffs. Big parade today celebrating the victory. No brownouts planned at least until tomorrow.
Cougarfest will soon be upon us (July 27-28). We have a great schedule of events planned this year as well as some great give-aways (including the new Razzi Ground Effects package). Check out the website at www.cougarfest.com.
Go Cougar!
Sorry to hear about the deer/Cougar conflict. Had a boss one time that went into the forest preserve to dodge a deer and wound up with a tree stump through the bottom of the car between the seats, and some SEVERE head injuries. Took 2 cycles of brain surgery and a year of wearing a turban before he was back to normal.
Glad you're OK, but let yourself heal a little more, and then go look at the new Cougars again. They're not all that bad, the basic shape is still there, and the parts that count are still the same (with some reliability improvements, I hope).
Didn't your salesman point out the 20mm grenade launcher hiding behind the grill for clearing out road obsticles?
Skip G.
The date is set about nine months in advance. We have to work with the plant where the vehicle is built and other venues in Detroit. For example, this year, day two of the event is at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn (just outside Detroit). www.cougarfest.com
Hopefully we will see you next year!
For all of you who have paid attention to the new tax laws, I'm sure you are aware of the 3-6 hundred dollar refund comming, I'm thinking "New Stereo for the Cat" So I guess I better go back to old posts and see what everyone has done to their cars. Hopefully the refund gets here before the end of the year.
WOW!!! I'm really sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad you are okay.
So what are you going to do with your wrecked Cat now?
Also, my wife's sister has a 2000 Cougar and is experiencing numerous problems with the AC. She also expereinced broken motor mounts. I thought that was intersting.
The Cougar belongs to the insurance company now. Engine, drive train and many other items came through fine, so the car ought to be worth $6,000 to $8,000 in parts, or so I have been told.
I ended up buying an Olds Alero. The standard ABS brakes and traction-control sold me, as did the handling and power. While I do not have the same affinity for the Alero as I did for my Cougar, the end result is that I drive a lot less aggressively, which is a good thing, and I feel a bit more secure with the ABS.
The Alero's handling is fine, but not nearly as tight as the Cougar's was. The acceleration from the line is somewhat better, and the stereo is a tad better than the one in the Cougar, also. Friends also love the back seat of the Alero in comparison with the Cougar.
Never thought I would own a GM, but there was simply nothing that appealed to me from FoMoCo in 2001.
As for my head...I likely had a slight concussion. That's my guess at this point, anyway. I feel fine.
Cheers!
Rick
So, the Alero, and the Grand Prix, and assorted other vehicles are fine if you prefer an automatic (in my opinion the Cougar is not fine if you prefer an automatic) but if you like to shift and you don't want to pay $30,000 for a BMW, the Cougar is it.
Is there any way you can send me a few minor parts from your totaled cat? Of course I would be willing to pay for them.
