I'm gonna go down to the ford dealer tonight and try to test-drive one. According to that press release, they are not to give test drives until the replacement parts are available which is unknown at this time... Haaaaaaaaaa
No, unfortunately I was not in Buffalo to enjoy the snow - I am in Rochester just 70 miles east of Buffalo. It was a major lake snow event there. The band of snow was very discrete - you either got it or you did not, as lake snows typically are. The NYS Thruway was closed from Rochester to Buffalo for over 24hrs and people were stranded in their cars all over the place, so the plows could not even get through!! Quite the storm.
Anyway, we were headed east to Boston, hit some snow on the Thruway, not too bad. We made it From Rochester to Boston (400 miles) with no stop on less than 1 tank of gas in the 2000 OB Wagon with 600 lbs of people, babies, and stuff in 25 degree weather!! Maintined 71MPH on cruise the whole way. Have not refueled yet, so I don't know the MPG but its gotta be approaching 30.
Hope everyone has an enjoyable, safe, and healthy holiday!!
...that folks like us are so well informed about cars and, as WDB so aptly demonstrated, able to form pretty good market schemes, yet none of us is actually in the biz? Excepting our SoA and SoC compatriots, that is!
that I get the news of the Buffalo snow from two different sources (I grew up there) - this group and my sister who lives in Bangkok. For once I almost wish I were back there for a visit. :>)
Mike : If you get that test drive in the Escape don't forget to bring a pair of Vice Grips. They'll come in handy when the steering wheel falls off. Let us know what you think of it. Chuck
Probably because the auto-industry doesn't pay as well as our regular jobs? Or we would cut into profits with our ideas? I dunno, how does one get a job @ an auto-manufacturer in the department that comes up with this stuff?
It's freezing and I'm a little too lazy to bundle up and run outside with a tape measure. Can anyone tell me the width, height and length of a 98-00 Forester cargo bay with the rear seats down and the fronts all the way up? I say 98-00 because I think the '01's rear seats are designed a bit differently. If anyone has this info ready at hand I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
According to the Consumer Reports Sport Utility review this spring, the dimensions are 42x37x32in. for the "maximum cargo box", 49" floor length behind the front seat. Hope this helps.
Can anyone tell me if the moonroof on the 2001 Forester S+ interferes at all with the placement of a tubular dog barrier (placed behind the front seats); and also, does the back seat fold down FLAT??? What are any other ideas about the safe transport of our 4-footed friends in a Forester? Thanks! Kris
Has anybody seen any die-cast, plastic, or radio-control Subaru Outbacks toys? My best friend's 3 year old son is crazy about his dad's Outback, and would enjoy a replica toy to play with. I've seen Imprezas and Legacys, but no Outbacks.
Interesting that at least two of us are involved with the BMW CCA! An article I wrote about my experience can be found in the newest SCOA newsletter. Heh, only thing is, the OB isn't going to cut it next season, and I can't afford a new RS or WRX. So we're going Bimmer hunting this weekend. An '86 535i and an '88 535is on the menu for this weekend!

Why is the forester not considered to be a wagon??

Actually, in the US, the Forester is EPA classified as a wagon but it's marketed as an SUV.
It's really a tall wagon with higher than average ground clearance.
