    Someone over at the I-Club apparently heard from someone (within Subaru), that they are looking into the possibility of offering an H-6 with a supercharger!

    It wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure we'll be seeing other offshoots of the H-6 engine platform in the not-to-distant future.

    That would work nicely in the Legacy GT :) Yum Yum.

    Make a 2-door GT with H6SC and call it an SVX! :)

    Then add a drop-hard-top and you are cooking.

    It makes sense for the American market, I guess. I think the Legacy needs to be a bit larger, etc., etc. What worries me is how long this might take.

    wait, the H6 puts out 212hp. The SC will push it over 300hp. Might be too much Oomph for me :(

    a supercharged H-6 makes more sense than a turbocharged H-6. There won't be any turbo lag; power will always be there. It will, however, be thirstier than a turbo. Unlike a turbo, a supercharger is always being used.

    As I posted in that thread, an S/C H4 sounds a little more feasible to me since Subaru secretly had one in the NY auto show Legacy anyway. ;-)

    Seriously, I heard it while I was at a dealership, but not necessarily from a salesperson. That's all I'll say. I also heard that it doesn't necessarily mean the Legacy GT will get the S/C, but Subaru is just testing different configurations.

    A while back, I asked the guys that went to the NY auto show if they opened the hood. They said that it was locked. Coincidence? Who knows?

    wasn't the Borrego supposed to have a S/C engine? What about the pre-production Baja? In all reality, I'd probably just fine with a TT H4 ala Blitzen, but I'd sure give the SC-H6 it's fair share of attention. Patti - need any testers in the Midwest? ;-)

    Me thinks that the engine choices would be just what Subaru needs to stay ahead of the oncoming crowded crossover segment.

    Borrego had a 250hp 2.0l turbo, basically a WRX engine tuned differently.

    H6 supercharged? Wow, that may even be overkill IMO. The H6 needs a manual to be unleashed. Maybe they couldn't fit a manual so they wanted more power with the automatic.

    Screw CAFE, it'll be a low volume model anyway. I say offer that in the VDC and in a "GT 3.0 SC".

    Just four degrees of separation! That's very interesting, but puzzling, to think that Subaru would put a test engine in a vehicle bound for the auto show. While I have no doubt that Subaru is tinkering with various engine configurations, I wonder if they really would bring one to an auto show even if the hood was locked. It just seems like there is too much risk that somehow, someone would find out at the show and spill the beans.

    All the Ford derivitives and GM derivitives at the show had locked hoods. Not just the Legacy GT. So I doubt that is a coincidence.

    Don't forget the Baja had an SC before it was introduced.

    Baja was 2.5l SC, though. The H6 has been N/A up until now.

    Heck, bring it on. That could compete with the A6 2.7T, the Passat W8, and the 330xi.

    Subaru could get more "marketing mileage" out of a H-6 SC, than with an H-4 SC. They've already got an H-4 turbo. I think having both an H-4 SC and H-4 turbo would more likely confuse the intended audience(s). I say go with the H-6 SC, and be done with it.

    I agree that multiple H4 turbos, regardless of their displacement, could confuse the uninformed public. I still wouldn't argue with anyone if Subaru decided to put a TT H4 2.5 in mine...

    All this talk about the SC-H6 makes me wonder if we should be setting our sites on getting the Legacy6, rather than a B4/Blitzen (I believe this was brought up months ago). Maybe they're trying to portray the Legacy (the intent of the H6 I'd guess) as more of a 'grown-up' vehicle, or maybe just plain sport-luxury.

    Hoods could be locked at autoshows so thief wannabes aren't tempted to 'lift' various items off of the engine. Same reason radio knobs, shifter knobs, and hood ornaments are removed prior to the show.

    We actually saw some thugs steal the HID bulbs out of an M5. Of course they put their fingers all over em so it was rendered useless afterward.

    Hmmm. A SC H6 Legacy vs. a T H4 Blitzen. I think I would go for the former. Smooth, instant-on power.

    OK, so let's play "product planners" for a while. How would you equip and price such a vehicle?

    I say offer two models:

    VDC 3.0 SC, just add a 6CD changer and a 5 speed shiftronic. Price has to increase some, but no more than $1000 at MSRP. That would leave it at a $5000 price advantage over the Passat W8.

    GT 3.0 SC, like the 2.5 GT we saw at NY (heated leather and a moonroof, plus shiftronic). Add just one cog to the tranny, for 5 total. Price should be $29,995, so noone screams about it.

    I'll take one of the latter.

    My list was for MY2003, rush order. MY2004 will bring the 6 speeds. ;-)

    Realistically, a 5 speed would appear in a normally aspirated H6 before anything else does.

    an H-6 SC occurring before the all-new '05 model is introduced. Subaru may tempt us with an H-4 turbo (or SC) in '04, but I bet the H-6 SC—if it does occur, won't appear until the new body style appears. It only makes sense to do that way, IMO.

    what I think will happen:

    MY 04: Turbo H-4 Forester and Legacy, sharing the same engine.

    MY 05: SC H-6 in all-new Legacy (their new so-called "Flagship"), or a neo-SVX, with the SC H-6.

    I'm now beginning to doubt that they'll put the turbo in the Legacy. Why show a pair of Aces (TT-H4) when you actually have four-of-a-kind (SC-H6)?

    My guess is that they'll just add the 5sp AT and 6sp MT to the 2k4 Legacy with the existing NA 2.5 H4 (perhaps with some additional squeezed out power). Then, when they roll out the 'new' 2k5 flagship model with SC-H6, it'll be worthy of the term 'benchmark'.

    Decisions, decisions. I'd love to see it happen sooner though. And I've said it many times before - I wouldn't mind a TT-H4 in a Legacy...

    I say surprise us, bring AVCS for the 2003 Legacy, standard, with 175hp. Then the turbo from the JDM Forester (217hp, good low-end torque) for 2004. The turbo on the Legacy only, Outbacks stick with 6 cylinder power.

    Then the H6 SC for 2005, like Bob said. But I'd like to see something in the meantime. Maybe AVCS on the H6 for the VDC, it has to stand out more.

    Trannies could use attention. 5 speeds and shiftronic are becoming common place, if they don't offer them soon they'll be late to the party.

    And their Sedona has 5 cogs on the auto. It's not on the same car, but still. The Focus now has stability control. And $22 grand Altimas have 240hp. Time to spread the wealth.

    Yuck on the two-tone silver steering wheel and shifter. Wood or just plain black leather would be better.

    Single CD player. Looks like Outback from the front. Seats are two-tone cloth and vinyl?

    Silver looks much better than the yellow.

    two-tone steering and shifter in Baja... When I had a rental LL Bean, I was not thrilled by its plood wheel: too slippery for me.

    they need something like the SMG that BMW have, the Tiptronic/Sportsmatic type shifts IMHO are an awful poor excuse for a clutchless manual!

    I forget the name of it, but it's in a recent Sport Compact Car.
