You can find the retail prices and package descriptions on the Santa Fe mini-site and compare them to Mike's invoice prices. Go to the Features and Specs section. Personally, I'm looking at the SE with the Premium Package (5-seat).

    Hi Dave,

I am also in the GTA also and plan to purchase the GLS Premium. I don't know if we can get a deal if we buy two at the same time but at least we can compare and make sure we are getting the best price. The spreadsheet I supplied came from Toronto Hyundai (Eglinton and Dufferin). Please email me iamdicknice(at)y a h o o dtcm

...at least I think I did....it was black but I couldn't catch up to it through traffic to get a better look. It's up on Hyundai Canada's website now, but still no (official) pricing info. Preliminary fuel economy is a little disappointing...Toyota's "Avalon" engine gets 39 highway in the Avalon and 36 in the Rav4, whereas Hyundai's "Sonata" engine gets 39 highway in the Sonata but only 31 highway in the Santa Fe (AWD model). Was hoping for mid-30's #'s like Toyota.

There is about a 400 lb difference between the two. That's a little more than a 10% weight difference. That could explain atleast part of the difference in gas mileage. It could also depend on how the AWD is configured as well.
  • samirataustinsamirataustin Member Posts: 17
Nothing in the specs I have seen so far rules out the GLS with manual transmission and touring package (7 seater). However, I am not able to get any confirmation from local dealers if this combination will actually be offered- even if through special order.

Anybody has any more light to shed on this? Thanks!
  • reca1reca1 Member Posts: 14
I just got an e-mail from a Hyundai dealer near Pittsburgh saying the 3rd row touring option will be available by the end of July. That's good news for all of us waiting for third row seating. :)
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
Yeah, that plus the greater drag coefficient and the engine retuning (increased horsepower). They're still very competitive numbers.

Stopped by today at a West Palm Beach dealership to take
a look at the new Santa Fe. I was ket by an inept and
incompetent salesman. They had a couple in stock & I
looked at a Limited. It is an awsome car & reminds me
a lot of the Lexus RX330. Salesman pushed me very hard
to buy today even though they had little to select from.
They also had ADM (additional dealer markup) of $1495 on
the '07's. When I told him that I wasn't ready to buy, he
was a bit surly & left.

When that "unnamed larger" SUV has a name, please let us know...someone might start a new topic under future vehicles as we peruse what it might be...it might pay for me to wait another 6+ months, if something a little larger comes out...assuming it has reasonable mpg and HP, it could be just what the doctor ordered...:):):)

In the European market Hyundai already has a larger SUV called the Terracan. Could a re-designed model of this be what everyone is talking about? In the event that you haven't seen it before, you can view it and other vehicles on the international site at:

    http://worldwide.hyundai-motor.com/
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
The new model may end up effectively "replacing" the Terracan in other markets, but the two vehicles are in no way related.

    Marsha,
You actually can view an Edmunds.com topic on the vehicle by clicking here. The thread says "Hyundai Mesa," but the model will not be called that.

  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
There was one at Healey Brothers in Mt. Kisco, but I think someone bought it, as it no longer appears on the website.

But, there are current eight units at Fuccillo Lincoln Mercury Hyundai in Schenectady. That may be your best bet right now.

Here is a link to a website that allows you to build and price the new Santa Fe. It is a dealer website, once you get on the page go to vehicles and "build a car"

  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
There is one available at Healey Brothers Hyundai in Beacon, NY. The asking price is $26,695.

Has anybody run into additional dealer markup (ADM) like
I found in West Palm Beach?
  • jabbottjabbott Member Posts: 14
I can find no indication that the new 2007 Santa Fe has running lights. Am I missing something?

Thank you everone for the help.

I was very excited for the 07 Santa Fe and have followed the reviews for months. I love the all new Santa Fe!! But the pricing has me concerned as to whether or not I will buy one. I want the Limited with the add-on to make it a comfortable ride.

Seems like Hyundai should have included more standard equipment with the limited version, rather than paying an additional 4k plus just to get an infinity 6 disc system, sunroof, third-row and all the other extras. If I do buy what I really want, the SF will cost me over $30,000...which seems steep for a car class that isn't even considered luxury. I think I may just wait and see how the market goes for the SF or spend about a few k more and get a MDX.

Thanks for the link on the Terracan...sounds great...I looked at the ebrochure and, naturally, all the specs are in metric...can any math geniuses translate for me into "normal" English???

4700 mm overall length (I came up with 185 inches, just a few inches shorter than the Explorer)...

2.9L diesel engine, 120 kW / 3800 rpm, 345 Nm (Newton meters?) at 1750-3000 rpm...how much HP and tork (ft lb)

3.5L DOHC gas engine, 413 kW / 5500 rpm, 294 Nm / 3000 rpm...again, how much HP and tork in American terms???

Will this be sold in America, is it being made now overseas (meaning are they testing it for the American market?), and will the diesel engine be sold here???
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
Actually, it was vegito1971 that posted the info on the Terracan. That vehicle will not ever be sold in US in any form. The as-yet-unnamed SUV (possibly called Hyundai Veracruz) arriving this winter, will be powered by a 3.8-liter V6 attached to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Preliminary estimates place power output to between somewhere in the 260- to 290-horsepower range.

This all-new SUV may indirectly replace the Terracan in markets where that model is currently sold. (I write "indirectly replace" because the new vehicle is unibody, whereas the Terracan is an old-school, truck-based SUV. Therefore, it will not directly translate as a "proper replacement" in the traditional sense.) This new model, while manufactured in Korea, is mainly designed for the US market.

Click here to view the Townhall-Talk thread covering the new SUV.

The SE and LIMITED trims come standard with automatic headlamps (optional on GLS), but not DRLs to my knowledge. I don't see it as an issue, myself: it's easy enough to switch-on the the side markers when visibility is compromised a bit.

Unless you're in a big hurry, just wait until all the initial excitement dies down, dealer markups will then go down too, and there will probably be some other pricing and financing deals. If you base both vehicles on retail prices, the MDX's limited trim (without nav) is $41k vs. $33k for the Santa Fe with the same options.

I was also looking and researching on this vehicle but the prices on this new santa fe are just too much! If I were you and wanted to buy one now with 7 or 8 seaters I'm just gonna consider the Honda Pilot you can find some deals right now for $3000 below invoice. Look at the forum on Honda Pilot Prices and buying experience. You can find one 4WD EX-L with Rear Entertainment System for 28,200.00

This new santa fe has not proven itself yet but the prices are just too much. That's just my opinion.
  • wheelz4wheelz4 Member Posts: 569
Pretty low-key intro for the new Santa Fe, wouldn't you say? I realize it is just hitting dealers now, but I've seen no press, no reviews or even preview drives. Not even a press release on Canadian pricing (though, unofficially, the figures are available). I was thinking there would be some press this week, as the dealerships are starting to get a few now.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
We probably won't see much press until the '06s are nearly gone. I'd expect to see some reviews showing up in September magazines (out in early August).
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
The Pilot is entering it's 5th year of production, so it's due for a refresh soon. Once a new style comes out for the Pilot, the same thing will happen at Honda dealers. Prices dealers can get for cars often go down as a body style ages. You can't base retail prices vs. prices w/ dealer incentives. I'm sure Hyundai's prices for the Santa Fe at the dealer will go down in time as well, but for now, this car seems to have received a good deal of hype so dealers will try to capitalize on it.
  • seniorsenior Member Posts: 13
The rated gas milege forPilot is 16/21.Santa Fe has to be better than that.
  • flwonderflwonder Member Posts: 33
3.3 six cyl Santa Fe mileage is 19/24.
    Better than Pilot.

  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
It's nice that the gas mileage doesn't change for FWD or AWD either. Both are 19/24.

Saw a bunch of EPAs (don't know for sure but I read that as Extra Profit Added) on 2006 SFs about 3 weeks ago. They had about 10 or 12 but only 1 or 2 remain. Didn't see anything one the o7s..thankfully.

I believe, as sharp consumers, we have to be tough and walk away from any dealer who adds a 'dealer markup'. Let us be serious about this type of behavior. Don't give in. Walk away and let them go out of business. If we are tough about this, this practice will end.

latest issue of Automobile magazine, and they had a short write-up on the new 2007 (I believe) Santa Fe...they were quite unhappy and thay lambasted it badly...poor fit and finish, engine OK, and just not that good a vehicle, kinda like nice try, but better luck next time...anyone else read the article and get the same impression???

I picked up my NEW 07 Sante Fe Friday evening....I came from a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V8(bought new and driven for 128,000 miles)....and I can tell you the new Santa Fe is as good as I had hoped....the seats are softer than the Envoy's but not as soft as the Cherokee's...
I find these new seats very comfortable!
The V6 has better pick up than I had hoped...and it handles very well....
It is a quiet smooth ride....
I am so glad I waited for the new 07 and did not deviate to the Honda or another SUV...
Mine has the sun roof and DVD ....I love it...!
Artic White exterior, sand color leather seats...dark grey dash(was not sure of this combination, but now like it)
My dealer, C & S, in Waterloo, Iowa gave me a phenominal trade in and called me the instant this one arrived(the first in the area)
If you are having trouble finding a good dealer, I would try them.....
    Happy shopping!

So, I took it to the dessert the other day and it wasn’t so bad. You just have to keep your foot down. Really down, in manual and first gear.
I feel that the 4 speed auto is not a great off road vehicle, but it won’t disappoint you as it’s not really meant for ruff off roading.
Anyway, I have only minor things I could complain about, but so far so good.
    I like it a lot :)

I was at my local Hyundai dealer in Minnesota, and they still had about 5 - 2005 Santa Fe's and about 40 - 2006 Santa Fe's. This dealer will not give out the incentives needed to clear these vehicles out before the new 07 model comes out. If they keep this up, they will never sell them when the 07's come!
  • azera25azera25 Member Posts: 45
Thanks for your feedback after purchasing the new Santa Fe. I sure would like to hear more of peoples first impressions after buying Hyundai's breakthrough vehicle.
  • zubinh1zubinh1 Member Posts: 18
No doubt Santa Fe is a bargain BUT Hyundai has made the Limited with Touring and Ultimate packages way too expensive. To spend $33k now on a vehicle that depreciates quickly and has no safety ratings makes no sense to me. A proven, reliable, safer option would be the Pilot or MDX. Sorry Hyundai, but I spent $6K more and just bought an MDX with Navi and DVD. I was also oferred the MDX base model without dvd for $34k. I also could have gotten the Pilot with DVD for less than $30k.
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
It is true that some of the packages are pricey, but there's no way at this point that anyone can make honest, definitive statements concerning depreciation. After all, even the inferior last-generation model has maintained consistently above-average resale values.

Based on original value vs. current values on the first year models on each vehicle (2001), the Santa Fe is worth 59% of it's original value vs. 64% for the MDX. That's not much difference IMHO. Also, you are comparing the Santa Fe's retail price vs. what you were offered at a dealership. I'm sure that in 2001, Acura dealers didn't stray much from the retail either. In parting, I would also like to state that Hyundai most recent offerings in large vehicles (Azera, Sonata, Entourage) have more standard safety offerings and are near the top in safety in their respective segments. Your arguments don't make much sense. Why don't you just say you like Honda products better?
  • marsha7marsha7 Member Posts: 3,703
I never made clear that I was still very interested in the Santa Fe and Mesa, despite the bad write-up in Automobile Magazine...I was just noting it for your reference, whereas my tone made it look like I was abandoning Hyundai on the basis of the minor review...sorry for any misunderstanding on my part...
  • jveneziajvenezia Member Posts: 85
I wonder if the reviewer in Automobile Magazine just doesn't like Hyundais. The other reviews/previews I've seen have all been great.
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
Most magazines definitely tend to have a favorite manufacturer and a least favorite, and thus, their reviews tend to go in that direction despite the quality, styling, and/or performance of the vehicle.
