Mike is the most informed non Hyundai employee that I have ever come across. I'm not sure what he does, but if he does it as well as he does his car research, then he is probably very good at it.

As a lowly dealership employee I can answer your question though. Most colors can be had with either interior color. The gray can be had with:
    Powder White Pearl
    Arctic White
    Platinum Sage
    Bright Silver
    Steel Gray
    Ebony Black
    Silver Blue
    Slate Blue
    Deepwater Blue

I have seen this at the local dealership and it looks very nice. The 2nd row seating was smaller than I thought. Seeing the photos and the spec's posted, it still doesn't look like alot of leg room.

There was a posting a while ago with US Invoice pricing. Anyone able to post Canadian invoice pricing ?
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
The 2nd row leg room is about .5" shorter than a Pilot and 2" short of a Pacifica, but 3rd row leg room is 1" more than the Pilot and 2" more than the Pacifica. I guess it's a trade off.

    Who am I...? Hmm.... ;)

I'm a recent graduate of a liberal arts university in Texas; I plan to attend veterinary professional school next year. Automotive research is one of the things that I do for fun, in my spare time.

    :D

If there's anything else you all are curious about, I'll be more than happy to answer any questions.

Wrote up and signed the "contract" for my 2007 Santa Fe and another dealer called me up to tell me he could lower the price by $500.00 since Hyundai just announced a Loyalty rebate on the 2007 Santa Fe....called HyundaiUSA customer service and found out that as long as I had not driven off the lot with the new Santy, I was entitled to the rebate. When I called, my dealer said he was going to surprise me and I think he would have since he's been pretty straight with me.
So, if you own a Hyundai and go to buy a 2007 Santa Fe, remember to get the $500.00 rebate. I haven't seen anything on the Hyundai web site about this but if you check with customer service, you'll see it's a fact. :)

Thanks Mike. It's nice to know there's a real person
out there & not some guy chained to a computer in a
    Hyundai back room.

    Good luck in vet school.

The 2nd row seating was smaller than I thought. Seeing the photos and the spec's posted, it still doesn't look like alot of leg room.

I also had a chance to crawl around inside an 07 Santa Fe a few days ago (gray interior -- I like the darker faux-wood trim color more than the cherry). The second-row leg room is pretty good. I have an 05 Elantra with 35 inches of room back there and it's surprisingly roomy and comfortable for adults on long trips. The Santa Fe has more room, so it really ought to be fine. I also liked the very easy to use rear seat reclining feature. They recline far more than I thought they would.

As for the brochure photos...they're always shot in a manner to emphasize certain aspects of the vehicle, such as legroom. The front seats are always moved at least half way up and the angles of the shots are carefully chosen. I've never yet seen an SUV with as much cargo room as apparently shown in their photos. I'm always somewhat disappointed. But then again, my other vehicle is a Ford Windstar minivan with scads of cargo space when I pull the seats out.

    Karen:
Regarding the telescoping steering wheel, I suspect that what happened is that neither you nor the salesman did not know that you must pull or push rather hard to make it work. A slight tug will not do. Brace yourself and pull, or push as the case may be. I'm sure there is a reason for this, I just can't think of it

I drive a 2003 Sante fe and have been happy with it generally- biggest disappointment has been mileage of only16 or 17 mpg in town [2.7 L]. I recently drove a 07 Limited and have 3 impressions:
#1 Overall fit and finish much improved-good ride

#2 Disappointing accelerator lag [mentioned by others]-you
really have to mash down on pedal to get it to go
#3 Less interior room than I expected-small space behind
second seat may fit a seat but it doesnt look like it
    will accomodate adults.

I had forgotten to mention I was given the owner loyalty rebatye on Saturday. By the way, our new Santa Fe is in the shop already. Check engine light came on Sunday and delaership is looking into it. They were nice enough to give us a SOnata for a loaner.

    The 3.3 engine:
There is a really a nice writeup on the heads of this engine, along with the 3.8 Lambda engine (same block) in the Azera forum. It was just posted yesterday. I'd link you to it if I knew how.

One thing I did not know was that these Lambda engines do not have hydraulic adjustable valve lash. They must be checked at 60,000 miles and the work required to do the adjustment is quite lengthy (no shims). If you forgo this check up and develop engine trouble after 60,000 miles between years 5 and 10 in the drivetrain warranty period I would imagine Hyundai may say that the repair would not be covered.

    Hi,

I would be interested in 'buying in bulk' - I am looking at purchasing a GLS also ASAP. I would prefer to buy in Barrie but the GTA would work too. I've not yet seen a GLS. Test drove a GL with leather option today and was impressed. Any idea when the 7 passenger models might be available in Canada?

    Thanks,
    Kelly

We test drove a new '07 tonite and really enjoyed the ride and the comfort. I currently drive a '03 Santa Fe and was impressed at the updates in the 2007 version. The driver's seat was very comfortable (a bonus for commuting) and the ease as which the back seats lay flat compred to my current Santa Fe is a dream! The $500 owner loyalty rebate is a plus too. Hopefully in the next month we'll be driving our own.

The info on this forum has been most helpful - thanks all!

I just purchased a 2007 Santa Fe, and like many new owners that want to pamper their vehicle (at least for a while), I am looking for a car cover. I would prefer a cover that is a custom fit to the 2007 Santa Fe model. If that is asking too much, I would accept a generic mid-size SUV cover so long as it fits the 2007 Santa Fe fairly well. My primary concern is UV exposure, and I have read that "Sunbrella" material provides the best protection from the UV radiation. I haven't been able to find just the right cover in any online or brick-and-mortar store. Does anyone know of a cover that fits the bill?

finally saw a 07 santa fe silver gls up closeand wow, did hyundai hit a home run or what? the front fascia gave me goose bumps! it looked gorgeous. strangely, it was parked right next to bunch of rx330's and it stood out big big time!
  • wolverinejoe80wolverinejoe80 Member Posts: 337
comparing to my cousin's murano, it looked slightly bigger both inside and out. murano is very roomy inside, but doesn't appear to be roomy. i think santa fe is kinda like that.

The GTA "bulk" idea is good, not sure how practical, differing time-lines, and dealership preferences ?
My usual buying period, is in the coldest, darkest, snow blizzard, days of January after the Detroit/Toronto car shows.
Back of my mind, Age old saying, never buy a first year car, both car and engine, in this case.
On other hand,Any other vehicles arriving soon, to match the Hyundai offering ? Don't think so.

I work for a hyundai dealership, and we don't add those BS dealer addons. You can haggle on the price of them too, as they are just pure profit for those dealerships. We have done dealer trades and recieved cars like you are describing where there are addons like fabric and paint protectors (this is done at the factory anyway).

Another one to watch out for is any add on that says something about getting the vehicle ready for delivery. A local nissan dealer put this in their final price quote, but on every car sticker it says the price includes detailing the vehicle for customer delivery. You can negociate every price but destination.

I will go with Honda Pilot EX. Santa FE SE with 3 row just cost a lot with unproven quality and resale value.

I know this has already been discussed ... the most recent posts I remember reading on the availability of the 3rd Row seat models said they were already in production and could possibly be at the dealership by the end of July. My local dealer called me last night and said that the best information his sales manager has says it may be October before they are available :( :confuse:

Has anyone else heard any more definitive timing on the availability of the 3rd row seat? My concern is that the Hyundai is delaying there availability until most of the 2006 Pilots, Highlanders, etc. (with end of model year rebates) have been sold and then the 2007 Santa Fe with the 3rd row seat will be competing head on with the 2007 versions of the Pilot, Highlander, etc. This is purely a theory -- but I may just end up buying one of the other vehicles if they delay this too much longer! Patience is a virtue I'm still working on! :D

Thanks for any info you might have on this!

Based on people's experience with the previous model, I'd say that quality is good, and based on percentage of original value, the Santa Fe is holding it's own. You can buy a Santa Fe Limited w/ a 3rd row and a moonroof for less than the cost of the Pilot EX, and the Santa Fe's long warranty is also pretty appealing. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I don't understand your reasoning for the cost on the particular trims you chose, being that the Santa Fe is nearly $4,500 cheaper.

this is my first hyundai 2005 LX 2wd with sunroof.love the suv. the only thing about the 2007 that make me kinda of mad is t get the 6 disc changer you have to get the package with the dvd and third set. as is on my 2005 and the 2006 it is standard. drove it and love the way it handles. if you will look in the front console you will fid a cover that at come out there is a hole for a cooler to be put in. the cooler will keep drinks cool. now you can,t get it in the us but you can in so other countrys along with headlight washers. :confuse:

This seems to happen to alot of car manufacturers. The option packages seem to be a little weird. I thought it was weird that you have to get the ultimate package to get the power passenger seat. I figured that should be a standard feature on the limited. :( Oh well. A cooler and headlight washers seem a little gimmicky, but I guess a cooler would be nice for long trips.
  • jpanozzo1jpanozzo1 Member Posts: 50
Any idea on the cost of the valve adjustment maintenance....not looking for a specific number.I keep vehicles for several years and would like to put these figures into my budget.

When it comes to having to add seemingly irrelevant options to get what you actually want, Hyundai isn't nearly as bad as, say, Toyota. My wife was remarking to me yesterday about the "stripped down" Azera and how, even though it's not a Limited trim level, it still adds a ton of standard features that would be extra-cost options elsewhere. If you want a typical Japanese vehicle, you can start at an unrealistically low price for a basic stripped-down model (which are never shipped to the US except for fleet use) and by the time you add what you need (accelerator and brake pedals?...they're part of the luxury electronic touring leather package) you've just about doubled the price of the car. That's very, very frustrating and one reason why I don't buy Toyotas any more.

So yes, it's a bummer when your desired feature is buried in an optional package, but Hyundai is definitely not a leading player in that game. Let's just hope they won't imitate their Japanese rivals when it comes to that.

Straight scope from a Hyundai dealership general manager today.
The 07 doesn't offically go on sale---TV,media advertising etc.till Sept 03,2006.They aren't supposed to have one in their showroom till than.Of course the 07's are in the outside lots, and can be bought now.
The 3rd row seating will be in their inventory by 9/03/06.
  • jcspohrjcspohr Member Posts: 97
I think the GM at that dealership is missing some important facts or misinterpreting the information provided to him.

    1. It is available and for sale now (as you noted) and that's pretty official. Hyundai wants to sell cars - all the misinformation, SWAG's, hype, yata, yata,... don't matter. Only vehicle sales matter!

    2. The web has been updated and you can build, price and request a quote - looks pretty official to me.

    I don't understand his thinking.

    JC
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
I definitely agree with you there. Making alot of the popular features standard also certainly eliminates alot of overhead for the manufacturer.
  • jveneziajvenezia Member Posts: 85
Yup. That's right. There is far less prediction required for options when they're made standard. It also helps working relations with suppliers.

I would like to get a beige leather interior with a black exterior. A dealer here in Canada indicated that beige leather will not be available...anyone know the official canadian colour options?
  • wolverinejoe80wolverinejoe80 Member Posts: 337
my local dealer has one in the showroom and one outside.

2007 Santa Fe commercials are now running in Canada.
  • musky1gfmmusky1gfm Member Posts: 36
His thinking is what corporate Hyundai told him to do,and not to do.
Don't put a 07 in the actual showroom-inside,till the scheduled opening date 9/03/06.That's when 3rd row seating 07's will be at dealerships. There are a few out there now,but most dealers won'have their allocation till the opening date.
The 07's are for sale now, your right.
As for the build, price etc. on the web, that's for csr info.
You can not actually order a Hyundai as you want, you take from what the dealer is allocated, trades with another dealer and such.
    No disrespect,but we'll see who's right.
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
I don't see where either of you are wrong. It all depends on your version of "official". I consider it official if I can actually buy one, but if you consider it official when you can order one, I guess it's not official yet. Either way, unless you are need a car with just the right options tomorrow, people can afford to wait. Hyundai is still on the early side for 2007 releases anyway.
  • jrehnkejrehnke Member Posts: 3
We just had the dealer order one for us, (SE model) pearl white, grey interior, third seat, grey and black wood accents, there is one place I guess that has a hitch made for it already.

If the wife likes it when it comes in she gets it, if not we will look for something else. :D
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
hiddenhitch makes a hitch for it already. Who gets it if she doesn't like it? :)
  • berniedgberniedg Member Posts: 54
That dealer may be correct, when you go to the Hyundai Cdn. website to build and price the vehicle, under Leather selection, it gives you the choice of 7 exterior colours but No choice of interior colour.
Maybe the website is incorrect, I suspect we are offered less selection than U.S customers, once again !
By the way, notice shipping cost, $1545. ouch.

    musky1gfm,

I hope you didn't misunderstand or take offense at my reply - certainly not my intention.

I was just surprised at what that GM seemed to be saying. The again, some of the salesmen I have been talking to lately seem to be a little clueless and/or not motivated to sell cars.

I am pleased to say that 2 out of the 6 dealerships I contacted have responded nicely. The latest response today was an offer to "order" me a vehicle. ;)

People were looking forward to having a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander with a 3rd row until they saw it...

    image

Would you put your kids in this seat?? I see sooooo many people ordering a 3rd row. I've seen no pictures of it and am concerned about its size. Can someone show me a picture or provide some specs?

  • jpanozzo1jpanozzo1 Member Posts: 50
The concept of 3rd row seating in any mid-size SUV seems strange to me. There is NO buffer in case of a rear end collision...whoever sits there is history.

However, looks like a prime spot for an overbearing mother-in-law. :)

:surprise: Oh damn that is one ugly 3rd row seat - the Pontiac Aztec of 3rd row seats. The engineers at Mitsubishi need to take it easy on their bottle.

(Note to self: cross Outlander off car shopping list).
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
That seat looks like an afterthought... like they thought "Maybe we have enough room. Let's just throw something back there and make our vehicle seat 7."
  • arumagearumage Member Posts: 922
You'd be surprised how hard you have to get hit to intrude on that third row. The only real danger I see is if you got hit by something that is higher than the frame rails, like a truck that has had it's suspension lifted by 10" or something.
  • jpanozzo1jpanozzo1 Member Posts: 50
Maybe I am oversensative, but I was rear-ended in a 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix by a truck. The trunk and frame rails buckled but that undoubtedly saved my life.
