This is from the '07 Santa Fe owners manual

"The AWD (All Wheel Drive) lock indicator
light in the instrument cluster is illuminated
when the AWD lock switch is pushed.
The purpose of this switch is to increase
the drive power when driving on wet pavement,
    snow-covered roads and/or off-road.
The AWD lock indicator light is turned off by
    pushing the switch again.
    NOTE:
Do not use AWD LOCK on normal dry
    pavement conditions."

The number is displayed on the left side rear window of my 2007 SF. Looks like it's etched, but could be some kind of sticker - I haven't investigated yet.

Thanks for that. The nearest two dealers are both about 100 miles from me - I'm in central Maryland. Looks like I'll have to go mail order.

We bought a black on gray SE 2WD 3rd Row Santa Fe yesterday.

I asked the salesman to get me the pricing on getting a spoiler for it as it only comes on the limited models. Anyone know if they will do it and how much it would set me back or if I even want to know?

Next, I have seen a few neat little accessory items available on Ebay and the like.

What are some of the top items that everyone is getting for their 07 Santa Fe’s? I’d like to see what is out there and what seems to be popular and really makes a difference with the most reasonable cost.

So far, I’m happy with it. Love the look, but kicking by self for not being able to work a spoiler and mudflaps into the deal. (Got invoice price based on Edmunds)

I spoke with the service manager at my dealship and he said that the salesmen/women are supposed to ask the customer if they want the auto door locks enabled so that it can be done before delivery. Mine didn't and I presume it is more because they want to get the sale and not distract the customer (give them time to back out).

I have a better answer for you. Many dealers DID NOT have the updated software to do it. Hyundai rolled out the Santa Fe faster than it could get the dealers up to speed. My tech told me they sold 42 07 Santa Fe's before he was formally trained on it. Too funny...

Quick question for SF owners - did your car come with a cargo net? The manual seems to imply it does come with it, but we sure didn't get one.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Did you look in the storage bin? Mine was wrapped in a plastic bag and stuck in with the spare tire.

Has anyone received an ETA on the arrival of navigation and a backup camera on the Santa Fe. That is probably the only features that have it second to other makes on my short list !

    I second that!

    Hello,

My Name is Nelson. I just recently purchased an 07' SF SE AWD. I'm very happy with the styling, comfort and size. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

This morning i started my SF and there was a loud whining sound. Very Loud. I called the Hyundai Service since i know a friend who works there. He said it's in Fail Safe Mode. I was driving in 3rd gear the whole way to work. I would hit the gas and the RPM's would shoot up but the truck isn't moving anywhere...

Anyone else have this issue before? :confuse:
  • pelican19pelican19 Member Posts: 323
I went through all the TSB's I could find on the 07 Santa Fe. Although I could not find one specific to your problem except a SLIGHT whinning noise during final gear I did notice quite a bit of issues with sensors. I was surprised to find so much of the tranny is monitored by computer. Your tranny has detected a problem and is trying to keep the truck running until its fixed. There is no way to tell whats wrong until they hook it up and read the code(s). Get it to the shop as soon as possible. Keep us updated on how you make out. Good Luck!
  • pelican19pelican19 Member Posts: 323
    Update:

I did a search on the term " Safe Mode ".

I confirmed Safe Mode will hold the tranny in 3rd. Not much help, I know but it tells me that your tech knows exactly what he is talking about and thats half the battle. I think your in good hands.

2007 Santa Fe SE AWD with tour pkg.

Finally had a decent warm day and the kids opened the rear windows. WOW. At 40 mph+ it sounds like helicopters are in the vehicle. WHOMP/WHOMP/WHOMP and a lot of vibration. Had the vehicle since January and love it but this noise and vibration are horrible. It goes away when you completely open front windows. I called my dealer and they said "oh they all do that". Reminds me of the joke about the guy who goes to the doctor and says, "DOC, it hurts when I lift my arm like this." DOC says "Don't life your arm."

Anyone else having this problem? I am going to the dealer to drive another SF and see if problem is present.

had a 2005 that did the same thing. got a 2007 last sat noticed it doing the same thing so i just got off the phone with hyundai. the answer was presure has no where to go untill you crack a wn indow or sunroof to let it excape. :confuse: thanks jim :confuse:

Yes, my cargo net is in the storage compartment where the jack is stored.
  • gwillygwilly Member Posts: 51
My wife did that yesterday for the first time, and funny you just posted this, the same loud noise scared the sh*t out of her.

Just another item to add to my new car survey that was sent to me yesterday by JD Powers. Hopefully I can skew the ratings a bit;-)
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Did they send you a dollar bill with that survey? Or did they quit doing that?

Actually this problem has been discussed in other forums many times. It occurs because of the large interior size relative to the air flow in and out. It is caused by what is called the "Helmholz effect" and can occur in a large number of vehicles. Your vehicle literally becomes one large resonance chamber.

    Here's a link to an explanation: Whomp/Whomp

I had a 2001 PT Cruiser that this occurred in if I opened only the driver's window and it was annoying to say the least. If I opened one rear window, the problem was greatly diminished but would be there again, although not as serious, if I opened all four windows at highway speed. My current vehicle, an 05 Hyundai Tucson, also has this issue, but only when I have the sunroof open at highway speeds. I am hoping a wind deflector may solve that issue this summer. ;)

I did get one crisp dollar bill. Funny story...way back in early 80's my two buddies worked in the small mailroom of JD Powers(when they were a very small company),they got a lot of surveys back when addresses were incorrect. Suffice to say that was what you could call the "beer" fund.

Its 9 days old today with 420 miles. It's been running fine and even this morning started normally. My wife went to pick up the kids at school this afternoon and the door locks didn't work. She used the key to get in and it wouldn't start or even click. Naturally, I'm away from home on business. She gets me on the cell phone. I call the dealer service dept who tells me to call the Hyundai roadside service number. Roadside needs the vin number which I don't have with me. Well, they end up towing it back to the dealership tonight.

Right now my wife isn't happy, not much we can do until they check it out in the morning. I left messages with the salesman and service manager. As far as I'm concerned they can bring it back to me, I'm not going to waste my time to go get it. We had planned a trip with it this weekend. My happiness with this new vehicle has suddenly diminished. I can't imagine the battery draining because all the lights shut off with the key. Somehting is not right with the electrical system is my guess.

    What engine/trim level?

I got a five dollar bill with my last survey. Go figure.
  • rick2456rick2456 Member Posts: 320
I had the same thing happen to me while doing the test drive. Took me a few mins to figure out it was steering wheel lock which was keeping me from turning the key. I had to release presure off the steering wheel which had been turned too much when it was shut off. Wouldn't suprise me a bit if that is your problem. Good luck.
  • westvirginiawestvirginia Member Posts: 15
Huh? This has nothing to do with my problem. The key turns. The battery or electrical system is dead.
  • djdublmdjdublm Member Posts: 19
it sounds to me like 1 of 2 things, 1 of the battery cables was loose and not making a good connection and therefore couldnt recharge while the Santa Fe was running thus sudden loss of pwr because the battery was dead, or 2 the alternator itself is bad and wasnt charging the battery. Hope it all works out for you and is something really simple keep us posted.
  • jimsistjimsist Member Posts: 62
seems like the problem i had with a new ford back in 02 it just died at thwe worest part of charlotte they were at that time.it would not turn over or any thing . the lights were ok. called ford it took about 2hrs for them to get to me and my wife .they took it to the dealear and found that a wire had came loose from its connector.it took about two hrs for thwem to trace it but never had that probleam again. that might be the probleam jim :(
  • rick2456rick2456 Member Posts: 320
Sorry, I had hoped it was something simple. Good luck.
  • westvirginiawestvirginia Member Posts: 15
3.3/Limited It was a dead cell in the battery. They replaced it, checked for a current draw and the charging system. Everything is okay now.
  • pelican19pelican19 Member Posts: 323
Very good. I am happy for you.

Isnt it funny the system can tell you when its unable to charge the battery but can not tell you that the battery is not taking the charge.
  • westvirginiawestvirginia Member Posts: 15
In my case there was no indication of a problem with the battery or it not taking a charge. This had to be an instant failure. In the morning it started fine, I had the heater on high etc., parked it in the driveway and the doors locked with the button. 6 Hours later it's completely dead to where the auto unlock wouldn't work.

I thought the original battery was smaller than the replacement they put in, but I can't remember now. The work order says Interstate and it has a Hyundai sticker on it. On the bright side, there must be a memory backup for the battery. All my radio presets were saved even though it was without power for a while.

I made the salesman bring the car back to us. I was out of town and we live 20 miles from the dealer. He started to say they have a shuttle that can pickup my wife, but I said for my trouble you can bring it to me. That's what he gets for telling me to call him if anything goes wrong. :)

Good for you. Sounds like you have a good dealer. Enjoy!

    Hi everyone.

I was on the following Hyundai site hyundaismartevent.com when I saw a claim that stated that the 07 Santa Fe Limited accelerates quicker than a Porsche Cayenne. Naturally, I find this hard to believe. Is there any truth to this claim? I haven't had time to research performance numbers for the Cayenne, but this just does not seem right to me.
  • pelican19pelican19 Member Posts: 323
Why not? Because its a Hyundai? Its all in the presentation. When one speaks of the Cayenne they automatically think of the top end Twin Turbo. Not in this case. They are talking about the BASE Model 3.2 V-6.

    F.Y.I.

The Santa Fe's top speed is close to 130mph but is restricted to 119mph. It will do 0-60 on average in less than 8 seconds( Cayenne 8.8 seconds ). Respectable for a mid size 2ton+ SUV.

the 2008 Cayenne Twin Turbo now puts out 500HP. NICE!

Are you having a bad day or something?

The poster asked a general question and another question answered it. If you didn't like the posts or the topic, please skip it, instead of going off on a tangent and attack other posters.

On topic, I saw the TV ad spot regarding this topic.

    westvirginia,

Most newer radios use other types of memories (Flash or EEPROM) that retain their data even if the battery is disconnected. They store calibration data, radio presets, ...So the old problem of losing radio preset is a distant past anyway.

This forum was designed to allow people to share information, ideas and opinions. I was answering a post and sharing some information. Getting 500hp out of an engine with less than 5 liters "is" NICE. An engineering achievement in my opinion. You are also entitled to express your opinion on speed and inefficiency minus the bashing. It’s childish, negative and not necessary…

I traded an 06 Sonata for the Santa Fe and one thing i really miss is my Auto up drivers window, why would they take this away? both the Sonata and Santa Fe are built in Alabama, you would think that this would be a common part that could be shared between both vehicles, meaning using a standard circuit board with buttons in the same place.. no not really a big deal but its a nice feature and i forget i dont have it anymore pull up the button and let go thinking its going to go on up on its own. :confuse:
  • pelican19pelican19 Member Posts: 323
I agree. Also, the map lights don't come on when you open the doors in the first generation and no way of turning on the dome light by the driver unless you have a really long arm. :)
  • djdublmdjdublm Member Posts: 19
exactly, i wish the map lights did come on in mine my has the black leahter interior so its rather dark in the front at night.
  • canuckercanucker Member Posts: 19
I also have a black interior and yes the front is quite dark. I guess the Hyundai engineers never opened the vehicle doors at night otherwise they surely would have noticed how dark the front interior was. It’s a flaw that still annoys me although I have the key insertion pretty well down pat by now.
