Bobdle, did you know that the most damage to an engine occurs during startup and not wide open throttle!
Every reputable source on the planet will give glowing stats for Honda reliability. Doesn't mean they NEVER break. I feel for folks who might get a bad one but it ain't the norm.
Bodble2: When is the last time you were at the local import scene? I see lots of modded Honda slushboxes. In fact, auto trans is the best way to bracket race. Accord auto tranny (on 5th and 6th gen)will withstand I/H/E plus 75 shot of NOS all nite long. Plenty of examples at local strip. The drivers worry more about spun bearings and connecting rods way more than trannies.
People are so afraid to run their cars slightly hard, and instead drive them conservatively when in fact , the accord/civic crave a good revving.
(I don't see no Accordnation commercials)
therefore Accords are never modded cuz the TV doesn't support that theory.
Drop the remote and join reality. Come on out of the house and join the crowd at the local drag strip. It's fun and only a few have zits and eat eastern starchy food product.
Where is the love?
i was having unusual sounds (low, pinging, grinding-like) noises from the front of the car during accel from 30-45mph. noise would disappear if you take your foot off the gas. not very noticeable, unless you are really trying to hear it.
after driving them around and reproducing the noise for them, they decided it was the transmission and they ordered a new one today.
What other problems are you having with your Accord?
Maybe we can all help figure out problems (or know what to expect!) by posting the build date when posting problems.
Thanks!
Update: Just checked - BD not on owners link. Check the door label for month, call salesman for date info as they have that.
Thanks
bburton is right though... if you get the full set it could cost you upwards of 50-100 depending on the manual.
the 2003 accord service manual L4 engine 2/4door is $70.00. the V-6 supplement is $40.00.
My dad's Helm service manual for his truck was about the same price, but it was also 2300 pages. very informative, covers all parts(as far as I know)
Thanks!

They're an American company with ethics! They're located near Detroit. They sent a revised edition of a manual for the 1998 car I owned -- there had been changes from the original set I ordered somewhere. I just found a box of new manuals on my doorstep one day that said Revised Edition or something like that across the front! I didn't even order an update...
CDs are available for some car models instead of the paper version...p

My experience with Subaru service was not very good. They continually denied that there was a problem at all. I'd be interested to see how yours turns out. Joe
My only point was that your stereotypes and info are pretty far off.
Example 1: I guess you don't want to address the part about how wrong you were regarding Honda Automatics being modified often.
Example 2: Honda auto trannies can't take mods? Your wrong again
Example 3: Generalizations about the "type" of people who enjoy working on Hondas can make YOU look bad. A local drag strip on a Saturday night is a WIDE demographic group that really only has one thing in common. Cars. Not zits, r!ce, or age as you so eloquently put it. But you would know that if you weren't an armchair quarterback.
So, as social creatures, I invite people to dispel the myths and have a little fun at the local strip. Drop the remote, it's clouding your judgment. Come on out of the house and SEE just how stout those Honda trannies are.
"Come back after you've survived puberty." Man I laughed at that one as I'm probably older than alot of posters here. I guess I'll just have to settle for being immature.

in fact, i have a feeling if i brought my BEIGE 4 door automatic Accord to a racing event, people would wonder whose Dad I was. and i am only 30! haha.
FJM is right, though it is not an asian culture thing to fix up cars.. it is an enthusiast thing. I have seen folks, old and young, light, dark, red, blue, purple... why do most people do it? because they want to make their car stand out. same reason people have almost always changed the hubcaps, or wheels, exhaust, etc.
What are people who fix up the Cavaliers, Neons, Focus, etc called? Burger culture?? burger racers? What about the Jetta's, 318's, etc? bratworst racers? sheesh. Hate when people are so ignorant as to classify a group of people by what they drive.
Justin... actually, if you consider it, your V6 Accord would smack the crap out of a stock EX civic. the EX civic weighs in at ~2700lbs w/ 115ft/lbs tq, and 127 HP. Your V6 EX weighs in at ~3300 w/ 215ft/lbs(i think) TQ and 240HP. So you have ~20% more weight, almost 2x torque, and almost 2x the HP.
Of course, if the guy in the Civic did what I've seen some people at the tracks do.. remove the front seat, rear seats, spare tire, jack, etc... lol. what a great way to know what your car's true ability is... haha
BTW, there may no doubt be the odd WASP retiree who's into this import tuning scene. But lets not try to fool anybody. We all know who this culture is predominantly populated by. IMO, anyone over the age of 30 would look like an idiot driving around in a tricked-out Civic or Accord. There are toys for boys, and toys for men. The trick is know the difference.
how can we find out that info? what was the specific component that was causing failures to begin with??
As far as I know Honda is not offering anything extra on 2003 models other than the TSB's they have released. Go to www.NHTSA.gov for that data
So don't think you're off the hook yet. Your build date 08/03 transmission may fall apart yet. Just kidding
I had a problem like that once, the problem was the fuel pump, this was on an Isuzu P/U w/ 175k miles and it was about 8 years old... The fuel in the tank cools the fuel pump off, so it maybe the cause of the stalling(overheating), and it may be causing the misfire... of course, I would guess that there would be a code for low fuel pressure as well... just not too sure...
as for justin's question...
I read a report somewhere that the root cause of the transmission failure was the 2nd or 3rd gear clutch pack in the auto trans. the clutch pack would prematurely wear out and disintegrate in the tranny and plug many of the holes... they began using the new clutch packs in early-03 or so transmissions... I'll see if i can find the article...
